EllieT different doctors say different things, but general guidelines are to start with baby oatmeal and then orange veggies first (sweet potatoes, squash, carrots). We're also told to introduce only 1 thing at a time and wait 3 days before introducing something new
Me (30) MH (32) Dx: MFI (low all the things) M. 10/11. TTC Since 01/14 IUI#1-3(Letrozole + Trigger) = BFN Second Opinion. Changed RE's. IVF 09/15 Long Lupron 12R/9M/8F, Transferred 1=BFN. 4 frosties. FET #1 12/15 Transferred 1 (3 still on ice)
So instructions here are to start with "taste sensations" at 4 months and from 6 months onwards you can do bigger servings. The "taste sensations" could be just about anything (not honey or green leafy vegetables) so whatevere we are eating it's ok to give him (not big pieces if meat obviously) but in very small servings (like dip your finger in the sauce or a tsp of potatoes or less). DS loved potatoes mashed with the sauce from our fish gratin yesterday
Is this very different from what you are told? My MIL just about died when she heard he had avocado and potatoes.
Our only guidance was to introduce one new food every 3-5 days

So we were going to start E on some oatmeal cereal, but he's had some diarrhea the past few days (like, maybe not full on diarrhea, but prettt watery poop). On the one hand, it seems like some solids may help bind things up a little - on the other hand, maybe it would upset his tummy? Any thoughts? I'm planning to call the ped tomorrow.

Ditto here. Also no honey or milk as a drink (can be baked into stuff).
When DD1 was a baby it was all very different with instructions to hold off on many foods. I vastly prefer the looser guides!

Oatmeal and rice are both very gentle, as are apples and bananas. I would not hesitate on those. Hold off on pears, prunes, peaches, and fibrous veggies maybe?
DD3 rarely poops so we are giving her all the poop-inducing from foods.

DD's poops have been a slimy mucousy mess (I beg your pardon ) due to teething related postnatal drip. Neither of my boys' stomachs were much affected by the first few weeks of solids and i don't expect hers will be either

I'd wait so you know if there's a reaction from food vs continued issues.

I've gone back and forth on when to start solids. My pediatrician gave us the ok at DS's 4 month checkup, but I had been dead set on waiting until 6 months and doing BLW. BUT now I keep reading, anecdotally, that babies who start solids earlier are often less picky eaters and have fewer allergies. SOOOO - now I think I'll just take the middle road and start him at 5 months, probably with homemade purees. DS is very interested in watching us eat and is pretty close to being able to sit up on his own already.

I did purée with DD at 5 months then went to BLW at 6 months. She had no issues doing both. She is far least picky than most toddlers. She has her moments but overall is a good eater.

My 4.5 yo. who started purées at 5.5 mo. and would not do real food until 10 mo. will eat most anything, but will also make her preferences known. My 2 yo. who started at 4.5 mo. and ate real food at 7 mo. only eats one true meal a day. She can randomly chow down on spinach or Brussels sprouts, but may turn her nose up at them too.
Family dinner is really key to avoiding pickiness. My friends with picky kids all for various reasons don't do family dinner. Pickiness also sometimes manifests late - around 2-3.

Here's my list of solids to aim for starting. My pedi wants two new foods a week since she is big on the allergy protection studies. I would do some others - kale, turnips, and a few more - but we never eat them thanks to DH so...
This time I must feed this kid black pepper early. I looove pepper and my big girls don't.
My girl is 4 months tomorrow. Big sister started solids at 5.5 months. Baby sister might big-eyeball me into starting sooner, but not by much. She is clearly interested in what is going on when we are eating but her tongue thrust is still pretty strong. I have caught DD1 trying to feed her sister bites of whatever she's having.... at least she wants to share? Heh
Our pedi suggested starting cereal to increase DS calories. He just turned 4 months, shows zero interest, tongue thrust is strong still, and is still not strong enough to sit in high chair. Ummm nope not even going to try. I'll start around 5 months.

Is that a list you made? I'm impressed by your organization. Come help me.

G is totally showing interest in our food (tried to take some off H's plate the other day and cried when we took it away), but she's still a bit of a bobblehead. M has great head control but isn't showing any interest in food yet. We're going on vacation soon so I think we'll aim to start solids when we get back. I'm pretty excited to make purees for them.
If I thin a purée with formula, what are the rules for how long I can keep it in the fridge? Same 24 hours? What about freezing? I thought freezing prepped formula was a no-no?

I would store the purees at regular consistency, then thin with formula just before serving

Speaking of journaling! I bought two books. Q&A a day- one for moms, one for kids. The mom's one is a 5 year journal, the kids one is 3 years. I'm loving them both!!
Yep. So now there is peanut butter in my house. It's making me nervous
I find these new guidelines confusing. Ds2 has eczema, but we have not history of food allergies in the family (but all have sensitive skin). At the 4 month visit she said we could introduce any foods, including peanut or yogurt.
I feel like I am calling the pedi office every other week for something or other. I never had any reasons to call with ds1!

Yeah, my peds office have a food fact sheet at the 4 month appt and said to avoid all allergy foods until one. They also said to start food then, but I could wait if I wanted since many guidelines say wait until 6 months...
So I'm basically now confused as he'll since everything says something different. DD is 4.5 months and I haven't started anything yet.

My reaction is to do what is most fun for me after my kids seem ready. When all else fails, wing it .
