So I had originally planned to make my own baby food, but I think I'm not going to do that. I bought the sweet potatoes she tried to see the texture and it seems so much easier. I don't have a food processor so I'd have to buy one and to buy those little ice cube trays. I think finding the time to do it is the big thing. I already feel like I don't have enough time in my day and it's just going to stress me out.
Those who are not making their own food. What brands do you use/like?
My kids refuse jars but suck down expensive organic pouches. They love Plum Organics when we travel or otherwise don't have homemade on hand.

We use gerber purees, and did pouches with ds1 when he was mostly onto regular solid food. Pouches were also great for on the go, because the containers don't seal well. Throw one in the diaper bag and you're good to go. I also bought a tiny spoon thing that screws onto the pouch. I kept that in the diaper bag as well, because it made it so much easier when we were out. When he was older, he figured out eating directly from it.
Ds1 rejected beechnut. Anytime I tried, even something he'd had, he would refuse it. So strange. But we stuck with gerber. And the only pouch he ever turned down had Kale in it. I don't really blame him.
And we only ever did fruit/veggie ones, or with oats, but never tried the meat ones.

redhead610 I ended up buying a variety today. I got a few pouches, but mostly jars. Gerber, beechnut, and plum. It seemed like Gerber had the greatest variety. I couldnt even find things like peas, squash, or green beans in beechnut at the store I was at. I'll have to check some other stores and see what they have.
Me (30) MH (32) Dx: MFI (low all the things) M. 10/11. TTC Since 01/14 IUI#1-3(Letrozole + Trigger) = BFN Second Opinion. Changed RE's. IVF 09/15 Long Lupron 12R/9M/8F, Transferred 1=BFN. 4 frosties. FET #1 12/15 Transferred 1 (3 still on ice)

Many pouches tend to be thicker. Some brands tell you the age or stage. And now I'm thinking I should have bought some of target's stage one pouches when I was there this week.
Confession- It's been a rough day, I just fed my baby gogo squeeze apple sauce from a pouch on a spoon. He seemed to really like it- even though he gagged at the apple sauce I made him last time that little jerk.
Hahahaha! Maybe he'll like it if you try again? Does gogo have sugar or something? Can't see why he would like that over homemade!
Actually, looking at it, it doesn't seem bad at all. 100% fruit! I'm shocked!! I just assumed they weren't so great for you.
It had some cinnamon in it. Maybe he's a fan of that!

I have been having so much fun with solids! It's so exciting - what will he like? All these new tastes and textures. He LOVED avocado. I just steamed and puréed butternut squash and carrots. The carrots weren't as smooth - I wonder if I should add more water. Anyways, I had fun! Baby is eating better than me 😂

I'm mixing in a little BLW and I feel the same way! He's having avocado, mango, carrots, bell pepper, chicken, scrambled eggs. He's loving all of it and is eating way better than H and me.

I felt BLW forced me to eat better and even try new things. It was fun to watch her reaction to new things. I have a picture of her doing to town on a rib around 7 months. It was as big as her haha.

Ha! I'm cracking up about the picture! We're having fun with BLW. I gave kiddo a taste of my butter chicken one night and he kept trying to grab my plate. It is fun to watch their faces with different flavors and textures. I do agree with the forcing us to eat better too because its got me thinking about what I can make for dinner that he can have too.

Oh mango! Do you do fresh or frozen? I also wanted to do peaches, but they're so out of season.

Fresh! I have an awesome grocery store near me. We just picked up a nectarine, carrots, and broccoli for him to try. We almost picked up a peach, but they didn't look the freshest. He's had the puréed version and he's not sure about them.
How do I get my baby to let me feed her? She will open her mouth for the spoon once and then refuse to open it again. If I let her take the spoon she'll lick the food off of it so I don't think it's that she doesn't like it.

Friends of mine used two spoons. One for baby and one for parent.

This worked for me too. I also have preloaded the spoon and given it to him to feed himself.

How chunky is ok for a purée? I made peas, and added water to thin it out, but it's a little chunky because of the skins. The carrots are a little chunky, too.

I'd say no chunks at this point. You want a pretty consistent texture. Peas are tough because of the skins. I think what I read suggested using frozen organic peas to help with this.

Hm ok. Maybe o can strain them somehow.
The carrots were steamed and quite soft, and I added a bunch of water - but somehow they seemed not so smooth.

Yeah thats tough. Purees you buy have chunks at stage 3, but honestly from what I've heard most kids don't like them because the chunks are weird even bigger kids.
Are the chunks big enough that they would require chewing?

I don't think so - it's just not as smooth as the squash. It's not even really chunks, it's just not silky smooth. I'll see if I can get a good pic.

I feed little chunks from the get go. My kids are late teethers too. They take a bit to get used to chunks (DD3 was loving the taste but not texture of chicken tonight), but they all do. It took DD1 10 days, though.

Maybe I'll try it and see if it's a problem for him.
