I go back and forth on organic vs conventional. Most pesticide exposure is environmental not from food anyway. But my garden is organic.
GMOs I don't consider to be monolithic. Genetic modification is a technique, the safety of a GMO will depend on the specific modifications. I took insulin produced by GMOs so I am obviously not against them.
ETA: I do try to avoid additives and dyes, etc. Particularly added sugar.
I am very comfortable in my decision to use mostly organic food, locally grown if possible, for my family. Everyone needs to decide what works best for them.

Very true. I am all for supporting local over commercial whenever possible. There is value in knowing how and where your food was grown/raised.
pbandjelly, I would love to grow some of my own veggies with my kids. One of the few positive memories I have of my dad is picking tomatoes and cutting lettuce from his backyard garden. In the meantime I do enjoy the herbs I grow inside.

We have officially started solids! Baby girl turned 6 months yesterday. So far 2 days in a row of sweet potato mixed with breastmilk which consisted mostly ofher dumping it on herself and playing with it haha. More made it in her mouth the second time
We did oatmeal last night because it was fast after daycare/before bed and our new fresh fruits and veggies are coming tomorrow morning.
After an intial "wtf?" moment, she had her hands in the spoon and would blow raspberries after every bite (her version of "YES, THIS IS AWESOME.")
So, avocado and oatmeals are wins. I can't believe banana was a miss! But, we're going to try again with a riper banana mixed with peanut butter this weekend.

I would love to do this with DS too! We had a good size garden last summer and loved it! So many kids think their food comes from the supermarket and have never seen a farm.

My dad has always had a garden. I have really fond memories of picking carrots as a kid (and playing with the worms hahahaha)
Either DD is coming around to letting me feed her or she really likes bell peppers. Which is funny because we joke DD is half made out of bell peppers because I ate so many when I was pregnant.

We only have a deck garden because of shade. My parents however have a hobby farm. My kids think picking produce is a blast.
The only reason I value organic is for the taste (sometimes better). My parents don't have an organic certification but grow all their stuff naturally and much of the fruit tastes way better. I don't know if it's because I literally pick and eat or becausr of the growing method or both.
The grateful household prioritized tastiness in food. As far as organic and GMO I am no expert but my cursory research makes me comfortable with conventional and GMOs.

Oatmeal was our first food, we started a week ago and she LOOOVES it too. I used pea puree yesterday and she didn't care for it very much.
Peanut butter scares me, our ped said wait until 12 months.
I'll be joining in this weekend. Got the ok from the dr with instructions to start ASAP bc DS is a peanut. He gained 8 oz in 3 weeks but still just barely 12 pounds so want extra calories. Hopefully he loves it!
eaglewife - our pediatrician is all in with the new guidelines. She was actually suggesting this to patients before the new guidelines were rolled out. So, I'll dive in to peanut butter and get it over with. Eggs and shellfish will follow in the coming weeks. But, yeah - I have some fears, for sure.

My pedi started suggesting early introduction of allergens around 2014 (but DD2 was 6 mo.). I get jittery with all the big ones anyway.

I'll ask about them at our 6 month appointment I guess. The packet they gave us at 4 months didn't have anything about major allergens. I have a shellfish allergy and we still haven't given it to DD1.
I get the jitters about them too. Hopefully the introductions are smooth all around
I picked today to do bananas and peanut butter with the baby very carefully. I wanted my husband home and clear roads (we live just a few blocks from the Philly Women's March yesterday). I was nervous this morning, but my husband was like "We gotta do it!" Okay, okay.
Just before we try to give it to her, I realized that the tika masala sauce I let her eat off my finger last week (and she loooooved so she had more than a lil) was cooked with peanut oil. My husband was out of town. I thought nothing of it.
I'm mixing in a little BLW and I feel the same way! He's having avocado, mango, carrots, bell pepper, chicken, scrambled eggs. He's loving all of it and is eating way better than H and me.
I felt BLW forced me to eat better and even try new things. It was fun to watch her reaction to new things. I have a picture of her doing to town on a rib around 7 months. It was as big as her haha.
We introduced peanut butter this weekend too, and it was fine. I suspected as much, especially because I know she's gotten a few peanut butter smeared kisses from DD1.

So we did bananas and she didn't like them!! I was surprised, but i think it may just be because it's the first really sweet thing she's had. So far she's like squash and oatmeal. She seemed indifferent to sweet potatoes. I'm doing green beans tonight.

I want to try PB when dh is home too. We planned to this past weekend, but ds2 was so sick so we didn't really do any solids at all. Poor kid was barely finishing some bottles. So, we will try PB this coming weekend.
