Holy crap sophiegrace. Please, please tell me you are asleep by now! cheshie6 with DS no one told me I could stop waking him to eat even after he had regained his birth weight, until several weeks in when ladies on my BMB finally were like "wtf are you still doing that for?" I do think it's the pediatrician's role to tell you this, mine maybe just forgot. Since you are actively monitoring L's weight gain, I think you definitely need to get that green light from them and if they don't bring it up, definitely ask!
Re: milk supply and baby's sleep, waitwhat explained it pretty well. One thing someone said to me once that was helpful was to think of your breasts as a factory, not a silo. They are always producing milk; they're not just a storage area holding a finite amount of it.
And your body will adjust to the schedule your baby sets by supply and demand. Like last week D was sleeping 6-7 hours early in the night and the first time that happened my boobs were rock hard and painful when I woke up because they had been expecting her to eat like 3 hours ago. But after the second night like that they were full but not painful. When she decided to go back to 3-4 hours between feedings, they felt a pretty soft when I woke up but there was still plenty of milk for her to take down (and also get hosed with per usual...sigh).
LSS, your milk won't go away if baby STTN; the amount will adjust back and forth depending on baby's needs.
Just awake bc Alec woke Adeline so then of course she figured she'd eat if she was up. Now I'm laying in bed enjoying an encore performance of
"Le Snore" - a one man act starring MH
But both babies are back asleep, let's hope for another 5 hours. As long as Daddys acoustics don't wake them.
/ded at this
My performance also included an opening act of the little known masterpiece: "knocking over a lamp and an open can of seltzer next to the bed then cleaning it up as loudly as possible while cursing constantly and shining an iPhone flashlight everywhere."

I'm trying to read this to H and can't stop laughing long enough to get word out.
Lol kleigh!! waitwhat hugs lady. J and D must have been collaborating tonight. She's been up constantly. Between her and also being woken up by MH, I think I had an hour and a half, a half hour, and an hour. I feel your pain and I hope we both get naps tomorrow!
It occurs to me as I sit here rocking a baby who appears to be asleep (meaning her eyes are closed but she will open them immediately if I stand up) that never once, with two children, has my husband experienced what it's like to be up and down all night. I mean he actually has no idea.
Like yes he's great at helping with them and has dealt with his fair share of trying to soothe them late at night (but before his bedtime). But he doesn't know about this part, where it's pitch dark, the nursing has ended, your eyes are burning and you desperately just want to go back to bed, but they're just staring up at you, or fake sleeping, or even worse, crying/fussing/spitting up. And then when you finally do get back in bed, you toss and turn and sweat until you're woken again by another tiny cry and you aren't even sure if you slept at all.
I'm trying to decide whether the social experiment of making him feel my pain is worth the amount of pumping it would require (in advance to make sure he has eleventy bottles available and then the night of so I don't hurt my supply). It'd need to be this week while he's off and can't use work as an excuse to get out of it...
dashook you described exactly what I was thinking last night while I was on my second awake hour just bouncing E around the room, trying to get her to fall asleep so I could desperately fall back to sleep myself, all while listening to le snore (holy run on sentence).
Everything started off promising with a 4 hour stretch but then it went down hill. I've got to pull myself together though because it's our last full day in Maine. I will conveniently have to catch up on sleep when we are at my in-laws in a couple days.
