Ughhhh I just fed Flint and the bottle was leaking so much. I wasted at least 1.5oz before I noticed.
Also, flint has been rejecting the boob so much that I think we may have to switch entirely to bottles, and since I can't keep up,that means switching at least in part to formula.
It makes me sad, (and anxious because woah $$)
He just screams and screams because he's so hungry and there's nothing in my boobs or he's too tired/lazy to get it out. I pumped twice today and only got 0.5oz out of each side.
I think I'll still try to nurse when I get home from work, and hopefully he can do a mix of solids and BM by day and formula at bed. Idk. this sucks
Oh no I'm sorry things are a little rocky. I have a few Enfamil checks if you need them. they are $3 off any of their products. I know it's a small amount and it's temporary, but maybe while you figure this out it can help. PM me if you want them!
I'm sorry Ray. Know you're doing an amazing job regardless if you have to supplement with formula. But I'm sorry you're disappointed with how things are looking nursing-wise.
mcktymck I'm sorry about your dad. I hope he hasn't texted you anything else. Also, hugs. I'm glad your sister was able to make it to Christmas.
Ray Sorry to hear. You'll figure things out, it'll be ok. Have you started solids yet? Hopefully that will help keep him more satisfied. My sister did the formula just at night and it worked out really well.

I think we have a tooth coming in! L was fussy as anything last night, but I just thought he was tired. Then this morning my chill baby was a wreck. He's got a solid bump under his gums on the left side. I gave him some Tylenol and it seemed to help!
I have a special hatred for people wanting to blame all fussiness at this age on teething. Yeah, it could be teething, but it could also be a million other things. Then this morning, after telling MH my sleep training plan, he goes, "well do you think she's teething?".
Wtf dude. Stop making this harder. Sure, there is a possibility at any time , her fussiness and non-sleeping could be teeth related. If I could see changes to her gums or feel teeth, I would hold off on sleep training. But there is no evidence of impending teeth, so I am not going to hold off on sleep training or give her a daily dose of Tylenol (MH would give Tylenol literally every time our kids are fussy if I let him) because it *might* be teething. Because it might not and this might be her normal and it could be 4 months before she gets a tooth.
katelou I feel like your frustrated post was in response to mine about L teething. I'm sorry you and your H are at odds about fussiness and teething.
ooo no I'm sorry, it had nothing to do with your post! I hope your LO is feeling better. It was just a coincidence that you posted about teething right before I needed to go on a teething rant, lol. I re-read the posts and I see how you thought it was directed at you, but I promise, it wasn't. I'm sorry it came out like that. With Christmas and seeing tons of relatives, I have been told "Oh she's chewing on her fingers! Must be teething!" "She's fussy, bet it's those teeth coming in!" by like every single relative on both sides of the family. It was frustrating that she was crying because she was overtired and overstimulated and my relatives were all "oh, TEETH" when it was like no, she's crying because you're in her face. When MH implied this morning that maybe her wakeups are teething-related I was so mad at him. I'm just beyond ready to start sleep training and was mad because I felt like MH was blowing me off by suggesting that "maybe it's just teething" and therefore we shouldn't start sleep training and just wait for the teeth to come in. I don't want to put off sleep training and then she doesn't get her first tooth til 9 months
all that to say, I'm sorry, really , it's not you, it's me

katelou no worries at all! I totally hear you on everyone jumping to conclusions about teething, L has been drooling like mad for two months now and chewing his fingers, and I got a ton of comments about teething. Nope, just being a baby! And I agree you should sleep train, those teeth are only going to keep coming in once it starts!

Thanks, we just started today in lieu of all this. He wasn't having rice cereal and breast milk this morning (I think I made it too runny?) and got really frustrated. But he demo'd 2TBSP of sweet potatoes and a mum mum at supper time. He nursed half decently this morning but I had to side lie.
I'm hoping with solids we can get away with 3 or 4oz bottles again, and then maybe use formula at night?
Feeding peoples!!!!! How much milk/formula/solids combo do your LOs eat per "meal"?

Today was one of those days where neither kid was bad but both were exhausting. If I wasn't paying 100% attention to the baby, he was crying. And all day, DS1 was in my face singing, shouting, or just saying 'mommy mommy mommy' as many times as humanly possible. My H just got home so I'm hiding in my room for 10 minutes to escape the madness.

Those days are hard. You deserve more than 10 min!

I have only been giving L a solids meal at dinner time and just around 1 tbsp or 1.5. Given his height and weight he could probably do more but his pedi only recommended that much until he turns 6 months. I don't find that it replaces any liquid feedings though. His normal intake is around 32-33 oz a day but I think he's going through a growth spurt and has been eating 40-45 oz for the last 3 days. Hopefully he's almost done with that lol.

I don't remember at all, but I do know that everyone said to offer BM or formula first, then solids. You shouldn't see much, if any, of a decrease in milk/formula in the beginning. If you are having a hard time keeping up with BM, it's better to give formula than try to fill him up on solids. Sorry, I know that wasn't the answer you wanted. In a couple months it will be a different story.
I know you didn't want to spend $$$ on formula, have you tried signing up with the different companies for samples? I don't know if they still do this, but with DD1 I ended up with like 6 cans of free formula that were sent to me. Also try local FB moms swap groups, I often see moms giving away formula samples they didn't need.

I'm a formula feeding mama and I would recommend a generic formula to save money. We do generic enfamile gentlease from Sam's Club (Walmart) and it's $23 for a giant tub. It lasts us about 1.5ish weeks and we are EFF.
Samples are good, too, if you can get them. I only buy the name brand when it's a really good deal, which is rare.
Ray I'm just curious how much Flint is drinking in one sitting and how often? Usually breastfeed babies only take about 3-4 oz at a sitting and you said you were trying to get back down to that. I know it can be higher for some and there's growth spurts but I'm just wondering if maybe he's being overfed bottles and that could be causing issues? Idk I don't mean to overstep and it's probably not even that but it was just a thought when I read that!
Edited to add that it also sounds like he is preferring the bottle over the breast because it's easier. I know there's certain things you can do to help like use a very slow flow nipple when bottle feeding and so on. Just something else to possibly look into. I know it's hard though once that starts happening so if you can swing it with the cost of formula that's probably a lot less stressful!

How is everyone doing on the hair loss front? I started noticing hair loss around 3 months postpartum, but it's been extreme this past month. I only wash my hair 1-2 times a week and never brush it (curly), but each time I wash it, it looks like a small animal came out of my head. I don't remember when it should stop, but at this rate, I'll be bald by spring!
my hair loss has slowed down but it's still going. My hair is a mess right now, and I know it'll continue to look funky when it starts growing back in. I'm trying to find time to get it cut short.
You guys, I have become a Prime Pantry addict. Food showing up on my doorstep and not hauling my children around a store is the best thing ever. If only they could send produce and meat...

rungirlrun I'm still having a ton of hair loss too. I don't notice it during the day because I always have my hair in a ponytail, but when I brush it, it all comes out! Can't wait for it to stop!

He takes two 5oz bottles between 7&4 while I'm at work. We are still using #1 nipples.
I do still have a freezer stash of milk, and he does still eat well sometimes, im thinking it will be a less of an issue wen I return to work hopefully

I think mine is finally slowing down, so hopefully you turn the corner soon. The past six weeks have been full of shower plugging wads of hair. Also, my laundry is so hairy that I'm finding felted hair balls the size of grapes in all my dry loads of laundry. Hair balls that look or feel spiderish scare me every day. My hair is long and very thick so I'm not at risk of baldness yet but I was losing the equivalent of a fine haired ponytail every washing or brushing until very recently.

Mine started around 3.5-4 months and it's just now starting to slow down (dd just turned 6 months). I'm ready for it to be over. I think with ds it stopped around 8 months.

Okay sounds right! Just was trying to think of things that could be an issue. Hopefully it's just a phase and he will get better. I know how frustrating it can be.
