Have you enrolled in Sparks Autism Research study? Very simple online registration for you and your child. They send a simple plastic tube set and you fill it with saliva. You mail back (postage prepaid), and in a few weeks, you receive a $50 Amazon gift card. I just received mine, which reminded me to post.
Very hopeful they find some genetic links. The anecdotal evidence is hard to ignore, especially in DS's lineage. DH's family has a whole array of disorders to choose from, including ASD. DH didn't want to send his back but it was DS who convinced him- he said "c'mon dad, you have to, you and I are more alike than Mom!"

I have the kit but have yet to figure out how to get enough saliva from my kid. He doesn't spit. I know they say to use a sponge in his cheek. Easier said than done.

I was going to mention that- it took forever. The swab/sponge didn't work at all. I had to bribe DS with sour patch kids to work up some salivation (smelling them, since you can't eat 30 min prior). I think Spark put how to videos online.
It came in the mail last week and we did it tonight. I thought it was going to be a fight with DS, but I did mine in front of him and he thought it was hilarious to do.

We're enrolled, but I need to get MH to just confirm his registration so we can get a kit from him. I want full genetics from both of us to see if they find anything.
Our dev ped gave us a lot of info about the study, because CHOP is heading it. It's super fascinating, and I'm curious to see what comes out of it.
