elephantastic I posted this on the Facebook page, but I don't think you are in that group. Just wondering what thermometer you use at home for E? Since you're a NP, I figure you must have one that you find reliable! TIA!
We have an ear temp thermometer but I'm not sure which brand. It got picked up along the way. I like it fine. I am lucky because E has only been sick a handful of times but I am not a temp taker really. I don't chase fevers with Tylenol/Motrin unless she is acting super miserable so I don't tend to check it much. At this age and in the absence of any immunosuppressive issue (where you would need to pay attention to even a slight fever) anything you grab off the shelf is likely to do the job. I prefer the ear thermometer because E will tolerate it. Some kids won't and the forehead sensing thermometer- while less accurate- becomes the only thing you can reliably get. A trick is to wait til they are dead asleep and check their ear temp then.
Thanks for your input! You're right about the forehead thermometers. I borrowed my aunt's and my DS hated it. I will definitely look at what ear thermometers are out there.
FFThC I still do rectal temps. My kid doesn't complain about it so I haven't had a reason to get another one. I also don't take it super often since she's pretty healthy.
