We are going to TFAS and will be buying a new crib. Planning on sleep sack and crib for as long as possible. Like age 3+! Everyone I talked to tells me that even the best sleepers start having more wake ups and out of bed if transitioned too early! He can stay in there a while!
We already bought a toddler bed in preparation that she would be transitioned by the time this one was ready for the crib but now I don't know. I hate to spend the money on another crib and then only need it a few months. I don't know what to do now. She will be 20 months when baby is born so probably just shy of 2 when we move to the crib.
What about using a bassinet or cosleeper for #2 and let LO stay in the crib for a while longer? That's our plan. J slept in our room in the PNP until he was 11 months so I imagine we will do that with the next one too.

We debated transitioning DD or just getting another crib. We ended up going for another crib. DD is not even trying to escape and I want to keep her contained at night for as long as possible. We went with an ikea crib because it's much more affordable than the one we got for DD. I really like it and am happy with our decision. We considered a PnP but with my due date so close we figured they'd both be in cribs for a while (at least another year) so it was worth the extra bucks.
younglove316, why not let the new baby sleep in a PNP for a few months?
We will up until about 3 months which is what we did with DD. I can't do extended time because as selfish as it is, we can't sleep as well with baby in our room.

younglove316, - FWIW, it may depend on the baby. With DD1, she was so quiet and easy to sleep with that she was in our room in the PnP for 5.5-ish months. DD2 was awful to share a room with so we moved her around 3 (?) months.
I realize your statement may be true no matter the baby, and I don't think you are selfish at all for limiting the baby's time in your room!, but just a heads up that I had totally different rooming experiences with both mine.

nattybumppo thank you! I know I can always play it out and see how it goes but I want to be prepared in advance just in case. The more I think about it, the longer I would love to keep DD in her crib haha she's an early riser so at least she keeps herself occupied for a bit now.
younglove316, It's not selfish at all. at 10 weeks I was back in my own room and LO stayed in the nursery (we used to have a queen bed in there as it doubled as a guest room). But you could move the Pack N Play out! I just saw the Stuva Crib at IKEA and I can't wait to get KU so I can buy it!

No at all selfish. DD was such a loud sleeper I couldn't keep her in our room long. It was driving me insane. We're in a condo so we just pushed the pnp out of our room into the living room for a bit then did the transition to crib.

Yeah I didn't think of just moving the PnP into her room when we do move her, haha oops! Clearly pregnancy brain does not always allow me to think logically

We bought a second crib too. Mainly bc the baby will be sharing a room with DD. There just isn't enough room for a single bed and a crib.

Do you let your LO eat while in their carseat?
Now that LO doesn't take a morning nap anymore, we're out more doing errands and such and we were out over her snack time. I ended up giving her her snack while she was in her stroller, but wasn't sure if it was a good idea to let her eat while we were driving?
DD1 snacks in her carseat but I can't remember when we started with that - maybe not until after she was forward facing?
I don't let LO eat or drink in the car seat. I'm afraid she'll choke and I won't be able to help quickly enough. She also makes a mess and I don't want to deal with cleaning the car seat. I just give her snack in the stroller or wherever we happen to be once were out of the car.

I let LO have her straw cup of water in the seat on longer drives. I've only give her snacks if I'm sitting in the back with her and can meter them out/watch her, and she's obviously hungry.
I make sure LO has a drink cup in her seat, but its 100+ degrees down here now. I don't go anywhere with out water for the both of us.
As for snacks, I have let her have snacks a few times, but she gets most of it in her seat. So it is reserved for only long drives. if we are running errands I will give her a snack while we are in the store.

I'm scared of the choking factor as well. With DD1, though, she can have snacks. It's not everyday, but if I'm running late and she's mid-snack at home/when we're out, it's fine with me. This usually infuriates DD2, so there's that lol. But, we don't go on really long car rides, so she will stop whining once we get home, or if DD1 sneaks some of her snack to her little sister. Not sure if I recall when I started being okay with snacking on car for DD1, though...maybe closer to 2.5/3??
I allow water while in the car seat but not generally food. She has eaten in it before when I was stuck in traffic for 2 hours but that was an exception. Id imagine once I forward face her I will start to allow food. She's a long ways away from outgrowing rear facing tho.

I only do water while we are in the car seat. Snacks I usually give her before we go somewhere or once we are there. I'm also afraid of the choking and the mess she would make.
We went on a 1.5 hour car ride with my parents, my mom has a seat in her car, so I gave her some then and she made such a mess.
I'm the outlier here - I often let him have snacks in the car even on short trips. He's usually hungry and whiny when I pick him up from daycare. What I do is hand him animals crackers or snack grahams one at a time so I know that he's ok and not shoveling massive handfuls into his mouth.
In this weather I make sure he has a sippy cup in the car.

I do the same thing if LO is hungry/fussy. She does not like car rides and Cheerios keep her happy.
Are there any M14 babies that have outgrown their pack and play (to sleep in when traveling)? If so, what do they sleep in when traveling? We were at the beach last week and I noticed that LO is starting to get a little cramped in the pack and play, but she isn't ready for a bed either.
fish8412, I haven't tried this yet but I'm thinking of getting one for next trip. It's a toddler travel bed with an attached tent that keeps them corralled.

We are traveling with E this Christmas and I was just thinking about whether she might be too big for her travel crib by then. I found this online, but I'm not sure how I feel about how open it is. I just feel like E is still such an active sleeper. Also, it looks like it'll be easier/smaller to pack than our travel crib, but what happens if we are mid-vaca and it springs a leak?
I thought about the inflatable beds too. We have a queen size air bed and it has a warning on it that it's for ages 3 and up. I wonder what makes this safer?
I personally wouldn't be comfortable letting LO sleep on an inflatable mattress (at her age right now) because she would roll/climb off and potentially hurt herself. Also, wherever we travel, the rooms aren't baby proof so she could get into trouble.
