Just got back from the doctor. R screamed the entire time, so that was fun. Her measurements are 21 lb 3 oz (70%), 29 inches (40%), and off the charts big head. The doctor wants us to go ahead and switch to exclusive wcm, even though sometimes R doesn't eat very much food. I will switch her mid-afternoon bottle starting tomorrow.

Shots? Yeah, in the arm! He cried for like half a second and then moved on.
Any concerns? Pedi said he sees no medical reason he stopped nursing so suddenly. Of course, it's nutritionally fine at this point, blah blah blah. He mentioned for the first time that his testicles are undescended. H is calling today for more info because I feel like maybe I misinterpreted what he was saying- it just seems so late to be bringing this up for the first time at his 1 year appointment. I should stay off Google in the meantime. Otherwise, everything is fine and dandy and see you in 3 months.

In 3 months? Is that specifically for the testicles or is that the norm for your doc?

My pedi does a 15 month checkup. I was surprised; I didn't think we would have to go back until august.

Mine must be laid back. We skipped from 6 months to 12 months, and I don't even know if we'll have an 18 month check. I can't remember from DS. It definitely wouldn't surprise me if she tells me she's good waiting from 12 months to 2nd Birthday. I'm sure she would do them more often if she felt it was needed but she's pretty straight forward with us with what she feels is appropriate and what's she's comfortable with, but small town and we know her.
I just looked and H had 15m and 18m check ups so I assume S will be the same. Her appt isn't till the last day of the month though so I won't know for a couple of weeks.
My kids are polar opposites. If I wasn't 100% sure they were ours, I would be convinced they aren't related.
Weight: 19lbs14oz (52nd)
Height: 29" (42nd)
Head circumference: 19" (one millionth)
Shots? 3 all in the leg. And a finger prick. She was peeved. But I nursed her after the finger prick so she was fine. Although she bled through her bandaid and rubbed blood all over herself and me. Which led to me laying her on the table (while still nursing) and using both hands to search for a new bandaid and wrap her up. Which is obviously when the nurse walked in. She said I have skills, haha.
Any concerns? Just her lack of interest in food and anything to drink besides breast milk. But since she sips on soy milk and water, and has maintained her weight, they aren't worried. She will get there. They said just keep offering.
Of note, she's a pound less and the same height as C was at 6mos. My little Lu. Also, we booked her 15 and 18 mo appts. I guess we do those too?
No He's no longer angrily refusing it, he just doesn't have an interest and still refuses. He likes to be *near* it, but not on it. Yesterday he moved my shirt to get to it and I got so excited, but then he just clamped down and bit me really hard. This happened twice. Can babies forget how to latch? I'm down to pumping twice a day. It will be 2 weeks on Friday.

33.5 inches tall 27.14 lbs so he lost about.... 1 lb? But he is insanely active since he started walking a couple months ago so I am not surprised. Head....no clue but pretty proportionate, I guess.
All looks good, ok to switch to WCM, shots in the thigh, and see ya at 15 months.

So tall! Is he like, inches off the growth chart?
Probably. His sheet just says over 99%th percentile. His sister was the same way. our pedi (who weighs like 100 lbs and might be 5 feet tall) just laughs and tells us we'll never have little babies.
Maybe it's a Canadian thing (or at leasr practice specific)?
DS still hasn't had any shots in his arm and he's 3.5.
Maybe it is Canadian/regional then! Because all DD's 18 month vaccines last year were in her arms. I could've sworn all her 12 month ones were in her legs, so maybe the procedures changed in the last year and a half.
We also had two in the arms and one in the leg (he already had both parts of the flu shot so it was only the other 3). Which would also jive with it being a Canada thing.
DS was 25 lb, around 30 inches. Head circumference he kept squirming but she eventually got the measurement. He did not take kindly to being examined or his shots, but all was well.
She got 2 shots in the leg, 1 in the arm and blood drawn from the other arm. She slept during the doctor exam and was woken up just in time for shots but she didn't cry long! We go back at 15 months, which works perfectly because DD1 has her 3 year check up when DD2 is 15 months. I scheduled both appts for the same day

How did she sleep through the doctor exam? R has always been on high alert in the doctor office. Even when she was 5 days old.

She missed her morning nap and it took so long for the doctor to come in and see us. She fell asleep on my lap so he did the exam while I was holding her.
Well that was quite the traumatizing event for little man, lol. Definitely different now that he's aware of strangers and such. Before, he would just sit calmly and let her do whatever she needed to do. This time he started crying and fighting before she even touched him. Oof this kid is strong. It was like an hour of torture.
Measured 31.2" long (92%) - seems a little off to me (we did a rough measure on his bday at 30.5) but whatever.
Weight 23 lb 12 oz. (84%)
Head 49cm (19.3") (99%) - she said he went up a bit on the growth curve this appt (it's gone slightly up each of the last couple visits but it's always been in the high 90s percentile) so she wants us to come to a follow up head check in a month. This seems a bit excessive to me because he's always had a huge head (97% at birth if I remember right) so I may just blow it off..
Did shots for MMR, Varicella, and Hep A (all in the leg). Also did a finger prick to check blood levels including iron, which I guess is standard here at the one year appt. I can't imagine his iron levels are low though with how well he eats. Whatevs.
He passed all his skills tests, even communication this time, even though he's not talking yet.
Next up is 15m. She said to start with a real (baby) toothbrush and fluoride (baby) toothpaste. And we'll do the fluoride treatment at the next visit again.
tkford216 they do the finger prick here too at 1 year. DS was so hard to keep his hand held for it. DD is so dramatic so I can imagine I'll have 1000x the fight with her to get it done. What 12 month old is going to let a stranger hold onto their hand like that?! It's pretty unrealistic, it sucks.
But they wrap it all up and when we went home I took a picture of DS and sent it to H, didn't even say anything and he freaked out thinking he had broke his arm or hand or something. He thought it was a cast. Lol
tkford216 we also had a finger stick. Kids are strong at this age! L cried at the stick but then stopped and put all her energy into getting her finger away. This nurse got it all quickly, thank goodness. With C, it took forever and was a bloodbath. And he ended up being a little anemic so we had to do it again a month later. Ugh.
You all are lucky that they just did finger pokes. Our pedi sent us to the hospital lab for a full on venous blood draw. I was not prepared for that...it was traumatizing for both of us. And frustrating because the health department (where I work) does finger pokes, but only for kids on WIC.

They wrapped it like a cast? B just got a teeny bandaid on his finger.

Yea our nurse was surprised at how strong B is, lol. But (through the loud screaming) he mentioned that it actually helps it go faster when they're crying and upset because it gets the blood racing. Which I guess makes sense.
tkford216 we also had the finger prick but she failed it with low iron. They sent us down to the lab to double check but we never ended up doing it because the tech couldn't find a vein and V wouldn't sit still. So we are just trying to fill her up with more iron-rich foods and hope her 15 mo appt will show an improvement.

DD is 30", 21lbs 3oz, and around 80th percentile for everything.
Failed her iron by 0.5, which just means we should continue lots of iron rich foods and they'll check back at 15m. She did really well for the finger stick and the whole visit in general.
The last in the series for HiB and PCV13, and the firs HepA.
They're also now doing fluoride treatments in office. Apparently medical insurances cover it better than dental (not that we do dental), but good deal.

Kind of. That colored self adhesive tape stuff they use to wrap around your arm after you do a blood draw, they wrapped like his whole hand in that. Like a full on mit.
Also, I'm impressed how many of you can come in here and list the specific shots that were done. I listened in the office, but couldn't list them right now if I needed to. 🤔
