X is having to be changed about every 10 minutes. He isn't dehydrated. He's drinking and peeing plenty. But his bottom is the worst I've ever seen. It's so raw that rash cream won't even stick. It looks like a second degree burn and he is doing nothing but scream.
The pedi's nurse said change him often (duh), use max strength Desitin (have already been doing that), and that it just had to run its course.
Surely it's a problem at some point though, right?
Oh damnit guys, now I feel I need to get this workout app too! I am such a sheep - but I guess in this case, it's a good thing. I had a physical this morning. I haven't had one since like 2011. (But obviously I have been to the doctors' very regularly since then, having 2 pregnancies and all).
tjhine - have fun on you date w Sunny! trtlcrzy - please report back w your Sephora haul!
Not a very exciting shopping spree. I got a replacement ole henrickson truth serum and Elizabeth and James black rollerball.
trtlcrzy poor baby O. I hope most of his issues can be corrected early on so he doesn't even remember going through these procedures. My brother had open heart surgery when he was 11 months old and I can't even imagine what it was like for my mom to deal with that.
That is the good thing, that he won't remember any of this. Last night when I was up at the hospital I remarked to my sister that his first surgery site has healed really nicely. He was born 3 1/2 months ago and he has already been through so much.
cagoldi S had a terrible diaper rash and diarrhea while she was on omnicef the first time. It lasted probably 10 days. I gave her probiotics, used ggandlee's butt cream and baking soda baths. It took a long time to heal still.
ETA: could the diarrhea be a reaction to one of the new foods you gave him?
Oh and Hiii everyone. I've been stuck at home this morning as I have a tech here installing a whole home humidifier!! It's so damn dry here that we literally have to pump moisture into the air so we don't have to shove vaseline up our noses so they dont crack. We were sick of having one in each room, so we took the plunge for the home one attached to our furnace.
And if any of you lot who live by the ocean and are like 'WTF is Vino talking about, this dryness?!' I welcome you to come experience the cracked skin, dry coughs and sore noses anytime 😉
MH and I were just talking about getting one of these! He bought a large humidifer that is supposed to work on the whole second floor. It does help, but since we close the kids doors at night it's not doing a ton for them..
Oh and while I'm stuck in the house I took the opportunity to scan all of our important documents to my laptop. So i turn it on and it gives me some notice that the Windows Essentials computer protection program can longer run on my computer cause it's too old.
TOO OLD!? WTF...a 2004 laptop is NOT too old. Again, we all know how I feel about technology, I'd rather poke my eyes with a sharp pencil than shop for a laptop.
LizInFL - Colin would only drink from the cheapo NUK bottles. We started Chase much earlier and he would take anything. Now as he's gotten older and drinks from the NUKs on a daily basis, he won't drink from anything else. Babies are weird.
ETA: We didn't really try bottles until Colin was maybe a month old? And we tried A TON before finding what he'd take. We started Chase around 5 days old, and it was a much smoother transition.

We have a dry house too. Occassionally S wakes up with "Red Buggers" (AKA Bloody nose) and B has already gotten a few. I keep a humidifier in each of the bedrooms and it helps most of the time, but not enough. And we are not far from the Ocean. But it still happens
eeek sorry cagoldi. I hope he starts getting better quickly! I was going to suggest ggandlee's butt cream too. I never tried it but everyone seemed to rave about it!
cagoldi awww that sucks, poor X. Ds has had it once like that (raw but) It was heartbreaking. Lots of naked time, so that it can air dry and Burt bees 40% zinc made it seriously better within 24 hours.

Anything is possible, but I kind of doubt it. Rice wouldn't do it, and this only started several days after he had green beans and a couple days after the last time he had oatmeal. I'm guessing it's a stomach virus since we've all had one this week.

That's the weird thing. B has his first bottle at 3 weeks old or so with no issues. We gave C her first at less than a week old, and initially she did fine. Haven't had a problem til the last week or so, and she's decided she doesn't like it. We need to troubleshoot a bit; it could just as easily be that she doesn't like the formula, or bc I've been around whenever DH has tried a bottle.

I hope they can help somehow, Goldi. That's terrible. It seems like even with him still drinking, he's bound to get dehydrated before too long if that continues.

** Stuck in Box - I think I remember you are breastfeeding. Could you try to mix formula with some pumped milk so it tastes more like what she is used to? Then slowly increase the ratio till it's all formula? We had to do this with S when introducing milk.
How do you/did you deal w/ letting the baby cry at night and not wake the older child. B is starting to be able to put himself to sleep a bit for naps but he will cry (sometimes for a few minutes, sometimes for a few seconds). But I am afraid to do this at night b/c I don't want to wake S up - esp since I am alone with both kids. The last thing I want is a screaming baby and an awake toddler who wants me to lay down with him.
nam2013, S is a pretty sound sleeper. Occassionally I will see him stir for a second on the monitor when B wakes up but not get up. Once or twice a few months ago (when B was still getting up a billion times a night), he did wake S up and it was not good.
He doesn't like to sleep with his door closed so we always have it open. I might try to get a good nightlight so I can start closing his door. B's room is also next to his so that is part of my issue. With B in my room it's a bit further away.
I think I am rambling, sorry. I just feel like everything was so much easier with S. Or I was better at dealing with it. I always thought the second one was supposed to be easier cuz you've done it all before!
73jewels yes, I'm BFing. Good tip, will definitely give it a try! I can pump, but I don't produce so much that I have tons to freeze for later. Plus formula is just so convenient, ideally I can get her to take both like B did.

Ideas?
We close both their bedroom doors and put a loud sound machine in both rooms. We haven't had any problems. Their rooms aren't next to each other though.
73jewels - The boys share a wall but neither sleeps along it, they actually sleep on opposite sides of the house. Noise machines and old school (i.e., noisy) humidifiers help too. Colin could also probably sleep through our house falling down, though, so that probably only helps so much.
Pedi called back (my pedi this time, not one of her coworkers), and said to alternate Pedialyte and formula, continue with the probiotics, and use triple paste.
I didn't know they could have Pedialyte yet, so that's something.

Could you close S's door after he falls asleep? Do you play white noise while he's sleeping? That would drown out some noise.
trtlcrzy I have to get a better nightlight. He used to love the dark, but lately it's too dark so if he wakes up and the door is closed he gets upset. I'm gonna get one this weekend
Of course I picked Ben up from DC and he has a nasty cough so I'll be on top of him tonight I'm sure
