I know this was talk about a little in the random thread but I want see what people think of their convertible car seat. We travel a lot so I want to make the conversion soon but the reviews are all over the place

We've got a peg perego primo viaggio convertible and a chicco nextfit. The nextfit is in the hub's car, so doesn't get used regularly, but we both dislike it. It is extremely difficult to tighten the straps. Both are easy to install and all that, but the peg is so much easier to get DS in and out of. The chicco was in our Volvo s60 behind the driver seat with no issues (Weve since moved up to the Volvo wagon, so plenty of room). The peg is in our Nissan rogue and also no issues with space there.
I got one of the new Britax Boulevard car seats w/ the ClickTight install. Super easy to use and I love that it will click when the straps are tight enough. I have no issues getting her in and out. She looks so tiny in it, but she seems to enjoy the ride!
We like how easy it is to install. I could install it with confidence it is tight enough if I had to without much effort. We like all the recline settings. We were able to have recline enough to sleep but also snack without feeling it was a hazard. We like how easy it is to adjust the height. We like that the straps are impossible to twist.
We don't like how hard it is the tighten the straps. The neck/shoulder pads make it really difficult. We have gotten the hang of it but this is making us second think another one for Aviv. I've read they've improved it in newer models. We both like and don't like how high the sides are. It feels safe, but can be annoying to get her in/out.
We are researching other seats but may end up with another nextfit, especially if they've improved the straps.

We have the Chicco Nextfit Zip convertible car seat.
We like that it is SO easy to install and has 9 different reclining positions. I like that it seems really secure and DD seems fully surrounded and safe. I also like the color, kind of like a salmon color. The whole front is supposed to unzip for easy cleaning but we haven't needed that yet.
I don't like how difficult it is to get her in. The sides are high so I have to be careful lifting her in that she doesn't hit her head on the car. The straps are difficult to place because of the shoulder pads and the pull strap to tighten it seems really hard to pull.
I wish I would have actually tested DD in the store in the car seats.

DS has the Cosco Scenera. It is the cheapest out there ($39), and when we got it money was really tight. It works fine and obviously passes all the same tests as other seats, but it's definitely not a luxury model. It's very basic. It's not very soft and it takes up a lot of room when RFing. We are trying to decide on what to get our twins since they'll be switching soon, I'd rather get something that doesn't take up as much space if I can. So, right now I'm looking.

Ds1 has the Saftey 1st Complete Air 65, hate it. It's so hard to get it tight enough, especially when it's rear facing. I'm so happy you started this thread Leapinglizards, I have been stressing over the babies next car seat.
We bought 4 evenflo symphony 65 convertible seats. They are currently in a pile in our spare room. We got a killer deal on them at the BRU trade in event. Haven't tested them out yet. I'm keeping the twins in the bucket seats for as long as I possibly can. Ds has a brittax and another brand (can't think of the name now). They both work fine, but were both a pain in the butt when they were rear facing.
Following. We are going to have to buy DD a new seat, since our original Graco convertibles were purchased in early 2010 and are likely to expire soon. I've been looking at Britax.
We have Britax Marathons and they've been super easy to install and adjust the straps since they just slide. Looking at getting a Diono Radian for DS1 when we move the baby to a convertible since he will be ready for the booster in another year or two.
I think we are going with the Britax Marathon clicktight Click here. DD's head is getting closer and closer to the top of her carseat so it will be sooner rather than later. We will definitely be doing it before the end of April though. DH is leaving at the end of April and I want him to do the installation.
We haven't decided if we are getting 2 though. Dd is rarely in DH's car, we take my car everywhere.
We have a graco nautilus for our 4 year old, but it needs to get changed into the harness/booster mode. Its older and I can never unbuckle it. I hate it. We also have a cheap cosco scenera as a back up. We have a marathon that a friend let us borrow for LO for now, but I think we are going to go with a Diono Radian when we buy a new seat. Its convenient that we could fit the three boys across in our Ultima if necessary.

@iheartmyshiba Curious as to how tall your DD is and how much she weighs? We're getting pretty close to having to move DD to convertible seat so we've been shopping around as well.
Are most of you waiting until your LO's reach the maxes before moving to a convertible seat? Or are you making the move now?
Glad this thread was started I've been stressing about which convertible to get. We need two because on days I work I drop off at daycare and DH picks up. Eta: DS is just shy of the height limit and I'm tired of lugging him around in it because it's so heavy so need to switch soon.

DS can't sit well unsupported yet so I'll wait at least until then so he can sit in the shopping carts and stuff but he's little so he will probably be well over 1 before he needs to switch based on the limits. We are getting a new car in May/June so will probably just get the new car seats and switch him then.
I remember I switched DS1 at 7 months but I think it was more because it was summer and he sweat a lot in the infant carrier compared to the convertible seat. Since its like -73 degrees here now, that's not a current concern, lol.
ladytiffany24 - I am going to keep the twins in their seats until they are too heavy for me to carry or around 1 year old - which ever comes first. They don't sit well unsupported yet and I would prefer that they are walking. I only say that because I'm still not sure how I'm going to wrangle 2 babies and a 3 year old safely. With ds1, we switched him over at around 9 months.

I'm so glad that this thread was started. DD was just 30.1 inches at her 7m appointment and height max on the infant carrier is 32in. We don't go back to the doctors until April 10th and I'm guessing we will be switching over just before or after that apt.
We registered for and received a Graco Mysize 65 and haven't taken it out of the box yet. I'm thinking I'll take her to BRU and try a couple out before I commit to keeping it. So thankful for this thread to give me a place to start!
Add another to the chorus of glad for this thread! My little man is right around 17 lbs, but in his Graco carseat it feel like I should be an Olympic weightlifter. (Side note: I am a wimp.) I have to use 2 hands to carry his seat to and from daycare each day.
I have the Maxi Cosi Pria...we aren't using yet but I love the fabric it is really breathable which is great for the texas summers and has a cup holder which I thought was important at the time.

I didn't think of the 100 degree summers. The Maxi Cosi keeps jumping to the top of every list so far!
All good info! We have an older Britax Chaperone infant seat, and we still have a ways to go til LO doesn't fit in it anymore. I love the convenience (and we have the stroller it clicks in to), and we also leave her with her seat at DC every day so DCP can go places if she wants. We really only need one when we get a car seat though, since H and I use the same car for pick up and drop off, even though we alternate who does what.
The same friends that handed down the Chaperone got Britax Marathons for their girls, and love them, but I don't think they ever used them RF.
Okay, looking for suggestions. I do the daily drop off and pick up from daycare, and we really only use dh's car on the weekends. Should I worry about getting two convertible seats, and continue switching between the cars as needed? Or should I say shove the cost and get two seats? I'm thinking if I can handle switching seats in the cars, I can get a forward facing seat for the other car when we make the rf to ff switch.
You could get a less expensive seat for his car. I think changing the seat between cars is a pain.

I agree. We initially only had one for DS, so it would limit which car we could take out because switching (while not technically difficult) was a pain. We ended up picking up a second one for the hub's car that had fewer bells and whistles.
I think Amazon has all the britax seats on sale. After checking out the new nextfit and britax in the store we got the britax advocate for $100 less on amazon.

The Graco Headwise 70 is on sale on Woot today for $109. I don't know how long shipping would take for that though, if someone needed it in a hurry.
We ended up buying the Graco Myride 65 LX for the twins. I haven't gotten them out of the box yet, but really hope they'll work out. They have a higher weight/height limit than DS's car seat, and seemed to have good reviews.
