marshian SIL who CDed got me Bumkins flannel wipes and they seem very nice. She also got me Natural Family Botanicals Baby Bum Drops wipe solution and said they are the best and she had tried a ton of different kinds, including making her own.

easilyunamused I did amazon, babies r us, and bed bath beyond. I was just doing amazon & BBB and then found an old BRU gift card. Lol so I made a small one there.
marshian do you want any swaddles? I got some SwaddleMe ones, we'll see if baby likes them.
Also, are you interested in stroller toys, teething toys, Wubbanubs or things like that?
Yes, definitely want to try swaddles! I do have some SwaddleMes in the small and large sizes on there. Also a Woombie and a Halo Sleepsack. Any others people would recommend?
I just added a Wubbanub equivalent (this one - you can change out the pacifier). I added a handful of toys but figure that is one thing people will pick out on their own?

The halo sleep sack swaddles. We used the swaddleme's early on and transitioned to the halo ones around 3-4 months. DS1 liked having one of his hands free at night at that point. Also, the swaddleme's had to be fully removed for MOTN changes where as I could just unzip the bottom of the halo ones

I would recommend not going overboard on swaddles before you see if you LO likes to be swaddled. We never used our swaddlemes, swaddle pods, or swaddle sleep sacks. We swaddled him in A&A muslin blankets for a couple weeks but he quickly showed us he hated being wrapped up like that.
He also sleeps with his arms up like hes flexing his muscles every night so that's probably why swaddling wasn't for him.

For sure. DS needed to be swaddled with a specific type of swaddle. So I have a bunch of nice ones that never got used...

This is a good point - I liked my halo ones because you can swaddle arms in or arms out. I had a couple swaddle pods that we used for maybe a week.

Exactly why I put a few of different types on the registry so we can see how it goes. At least there's variety out there now!
So, I just looked through photos and found that we actually used the halo sack swaddles at around a month because we kept him in one all the time and just kept his arms out when awake (I guess that's also a confession...)
Okay, so people are starting to ask for our registries (even though the shower invites won't go out until March/April). Guess I need to get them to the point where I'm happy. Anything egregious I'm missing? Any other brands you preferred (and why)? We are trying to go minimal with the attitude we can always buy more things as needed.
Gear: - Car seat (Chicco NextFit Zip - fits in our car) - Car seat travel cart (for travel) - Arm's Reach Mini Ezee Co-sleeper - Graco Duetsoothe swing (debating on the Graco Glider Elite instead, has a slightly smaller footprint, but I like the idea of both head-to-toe and side-to-side motion) - Stroller (Baby Jogger Vue Lite) - Stroller wind/rain cover (it's Chicago, we'll definitely get rain on the way to daycare) - JJ Cole BundleMe for stroller (again, winter in Chicago, walking to DC) - Jogging stroller (debating not putting this on the registry and getting a used one around the 6-month mark when it's safe to run with baby - thoughts?) - Strap-on high chair (this one) - Infant bath sink insert thing (this one is the one H likes)
Nursing/Feeding: - Boppy (I hear equally good things about Boppy vs. Brestfriend. With Boppy you can prop baby up for tummy time, which I like.) - Boppy cover - Kiinde starter system - A few roll-up bibs for when bigger (these and these) - A couple of these placemats for when baby is bigger
Diapering: - Cloth diapers (have a variety on my registry and will buy more as we figure out what we like) - Cloth wipes (debating on which ones - any fave brands?) - Snappis - Bum brush - Changing pad (the Summer Infant one) - Changing pad covers (2) - Diaper sprayer - Wet bags (Kangacare?) - Pail liners (Planetwise? Recs?)
Other: - Audio-only monitor - Tula - Lillebaby (H's pick) - Shatter-proof mirror to see baby in car seat - Pack of 4 Aden + Anais swaddle blankets - Baby shampoo (want to try this brand) - Baby lotion (want to try this brand) - Nose Frida and filters
I did put some clothes in various sizes from newborn to 12 months on there for things I particularly liked in case anyone wants to just grab something they know I want.
ETA a few things.
For the mirror in the car, the hospital made us take it out of the car before they let us take the baby home because in an accident they can break loose and break the front of the baby's skull. So after those words from the experts, ours sits in the closet, not anywhere near the car. It wasn't a big deal not to be able to see her.

We didn't use one until he was 10ish months if not older.. we didn't have a need prior to that

I'm really worried about keeping M warm and H and myself cold. I like 60 degrees in the house in the summer....
Same here. H likes to keep it cold at night and can't take it being too warm during the day in the summer either. I have a feeling baby will be in an extra layer. H can just continue his usual method of only wearing boxers.

My DD inherited my DH's genes for always being warm and even as a newborn would sweat in fleece. So maybe M will be like you guys?
Otherwise, long sleeves/long pants plus keeping a blankie handy (obvs. not in the crib, but nice to keep baby warm while you're getting snuggles). Fleece jammies or sleep sacks for sleeping.

I really want to know how often that happens - they tend to be soft and light weight, and that requires them to break away from the headrest first. I get why some people decide not to use them but it seems like a remote risk of serious injury.
We use one, and find it helpful. My friend was driving and her kid was freaking out then suddenly went quiet, so she pulled over to make sure he was ok, he'd just fallen asleep mid scream. After that she got a mirror.
I've also heard of people realizing their kid had gone blue only because they had a mirror. And we'd all like to think we could never forget our kid in the car, but it can happen to anyone and rear-facing car seats are part of the reason. If you use a mirror it needs to be robust and well-attached, but I think there are risks and benefits on both sides.

I love our woolino sleep sack for keeping my kid cozy but not sweaty. We use it every night (with different amounts of cotton clothes underneath) unless the house is warmer than 80 when she goes down.

If I could bold the sentence on leaving the baby in the car, I would. I know a mom who accidentally did that this summer to devastating results. She swore she dropped him off and only discovered when she went to pick him up, that wasn't the case.
Perfect time for me to chime in and remind everyone to start a system now, be it leaving things in the back seat, taking an empty seat photo, whatever your choice is. DH and I personally leave our work bags in the back seat so we have to look at the car seats when we get out of the car. Daycare also sends us a notice that DS has been dropped off and I call in a panic if I don't get one within 30 minutes of when they should be there (if I didn't do drop off myself)

hpnegirl, such a good point about thinking about a system now. I drop DD off at my parents' house 2 days a week so they would immediately call if I didn't show up. MH drops DD off at daycare 2 days a week and he calls and lets me know right after he drops her off. The few times he has forgotten to call, I have called him just to verify everything was ok.

@osw I say yes. Preferably with the dangling things. DD loved the kick n play piano one. I plan on getting one for this baby too since we got rid of ours.
Yes! We have the fisher price rainforest one that has lights and the penis giraffe. When DS1 was around 2 weeks old, we couldn't figure out why he was crying. DH had the bright idea of laying him on the mat to look at the lights. Sure enough, DS1 was bored because he silenced almost immediately 😅 I found it useful to lay him in it 10-15 minutes here and there just so I could do something and he'd watch the lights
When he got a bit bigger, we got a kick n play piano he loved to stomp on and kick
