The title is a little hyperbolic, maybe, but time will tell.
Can we have this thread to talk about Dump stuff? Otherwise it will clog up the daily since things are happening so quickly. I liked the article you linked over the weekend, Cherhorowitz.
An easily digestible personal narrative from a Holocaust survivor. Potentially good for those who are uncomfortable with the ban but are minimizing its impact/importance:
I just read those articles and woof. So basically the panic I feel is justified.
This is where my mind went the morning after the election, when I hyperventilated and started screaming at poor DH. Except I was thinking - hoping? - that with our government's checks and balances, that things wouldn't get so bad, so fast. I thought all those R's who made a stink during the election might ACTUALLY show some level of integrity. I thought Trump would implode on himself. Now it looks like a lot of the individual signs of incompetence - like not replacing State Department members before the prior ones left - may actual have been intentional moves to consolidate power. And he continues to gaslight at every possible opportunity and there are still plenty of people lapping it up. It's flat out terrifying.
Some one explain gas lighting to me. I've never heard the phrase.
I'm sure @surelycantbesrs will be able to offer a better explanation, but basically, "it's not me, it's you."
"I'm not racist! You must be racist if you think in terms like that."
So every malfeasance and any infraction will be turned around on those making the accusation. You're crazy, you're exaggerating, you're in hysterics, you're being dramatic. The media lies, they're dishonest, you're a special snowflake and need your safe space.
Nothing he does will be the fault of him or his supporters. The problem will always be those of us criticizing him.

I think I first heard it via Dear Abby'esque articles, about guys who cheat turning the situation around on their GFs when they get confronted. Basically messing with someone's head and confusing them until they drop the subject.
Tactics include very blatant lying even when proof of your actions exist, like Trump constantly denying he mocked a disabled journalist (for just 1 example). This is confusing because why would someone lie when it can be proven? Maybe you're just misunderstanding the whole situation? Or accusing others of doing what you're doing - like yesterday's Tweet implying McCain et.al. may start WW3 by standing up to the EO. Basically confuse people into thinking someone else is the real problem.

From what I understand it's someone repeating the same, false thing until you start to either think you're the crazy one or believe what they are telling you.
Okay tell me. Over here if a politician/political party does something wrong/does something ridiculous/makes a 'mistake' (for lack of a better word) the rest of our politicians can file a so called 'motion of mistrust' and said politician or party can be discharged, if this means the majority in our government is lost, the cabinet will fall and there will be new elections.
Is this possible in the us?
If our politicians had an integrity, they could impeach him. But it's not looking good. There was a list going around over the weekend showing that while the majority of Democratic reps were openly disavowing the ban, the bulk of the Republicans were silent. There are a few have been vocal in their opposition, but they are by far the minority.
nam2013 Yes, we have procedures, but if you can find time, read the link I posted about a Constitutional crisis.
We have a system of checks and balances, or we're supposed to. The idea being that no branch can have too much power. So over the weekend, a Federal judge rightly said his ban is illegal.
They are openly defying the judge's order.
This is unprecedented.
The checks and balances only work so long as we aren't dealing with a madman who is using The Constitution for toilet paper.
Another political debate on facebook and apparently, if you support women's rights, you agree that your husband can fool around on you. Wut.
Logic doesn't seem to be a strong suit with them.
And the guy who shot up the mosque in Quebec is a white guy who loves Trump. Anybody see the Neo Nazis panicking about national security and wondering when the violence will end?

The idiotic senator and representative from my state are pro ban.

Everyone can come to my hippie commune. I doubt the Calexit will get enough votes, but if it does, we will take refugees!

OMG, I just saw a comment on an anti- Starbucks post that said, "all the refugees need to go back where they came from and be spayed or neutered. Stop the population." I vomited in my mouth a little over that b.s. Happy to say I don't know the person that made the comment, but the fact that there are people here(in the U.S., Not on the board) who think that way makes me sick.

I think Bannon and Russia want the calexit and are pressuring Trump to support it since it'd keep the US red. Everything is a trap. Plus, CA is the best state, don't leave us!

I'm tired of the electoral college giving the racists what they want.

Vomit. I kind of laugh at the sbux boycott, I doubt it could have much impact...I feel like the liberal elite are more likely to pay for sbux than red states. Plus, it's not PSL season so the basics aren't out in full force.

It originally stemmed from a play called Gas Light where the husband gradually dimmed the gas lights but made the wife think it was just her perception. A friend of mine who does some classified stuff told me it's actually a common tactic to use on people, where they go into their house and just move a couple of things slightly around. Alter someone's perception of reality and watch everything else fall apart.

Yes, the post itself was odd. They seem to think that because Sbux said they would be hiring refugees it meant they wouldn't be hiring anyone else, which obviously, isn't the case.

Their last one called for people to go to SBUX, order the drink, and say their name was Trump.
I don't really think these idiots get how a boycott works. You don't patronize a business you're boycotting, dummies.
