It's so hard to really enforce nut free in a public school even if they wanted to. We ask kids to bring in a healthy snack daily and get candy regularly sent in. There's just no way to enforce/monitor a school of 500+ 5-11 year olds. At my school we have a peanut free table in the cafeteria and the students who have allergies sit there but get to choose a friend from their class to go sit with them each day. The lunch aides just check those student's lunches.
I've been thinking about J's birthday (I'm an early planner). If we go with the theme (and by theme I mean want to decorate the cake) he wants it will be Polar Express, baby Dory, and BB-8 themed. Crazy kids.
DD is still holding firm to a chocolate party. He also wants a couch and something fuzzy?!?
Also, this new stage of "No. I do it MYSELF!!" is aggravating.
I am just tying to offer a bit of help with picking food up or walking down the front porch stairs. My mom got a taste of it several times at lunch today when out for Matt's birthday.

I feel like this would work better in an actual school. A first grader will know more of why they have to sit separate than a 3 year old. Still find it a bit odd though
I know right. I felt so sorry for the kids there that do have allergies. I also thought I was being overly sensitive until I asked around. There is just so much to this that I don't like.
do they put all allergy kids on the same table no matter what the allergy is? Like do they have peanut kids with gluten kids because that makes no sense. And it's weird and stigmatizing in general, it's really not that hard to just be a nut free facility, peanut butter is not the only sandwich filling out there
DS went to a daycare like this until recently. They had a table labeled "Egg free" or "Dairy free" depending on what allergies the kids in the room had. I'm sure people with severe peanut allergies chose a different daycare for this reason. The one he's in now serves all meals, so they can be peanut free. But if I have to pack lunch every day like at his old school, (and it has to meet the state nutrition requirements of having one protein, one grain, and one fruit/veggie) I'm going to pack what is easy for me, and I know my kid will eat, which meant PB&J every day.
emmagk, can you tell my kid there are other things you can eat besides PB&j? Lol
You could make it with wow butter or another alternative.
DS's DC isn't peanut free so we don't have to worry about it for now. I actually don't send it to DC often because he's easier with food there so I save it for at home. We don't eat meat so sandwich options are limited to begin with and then add picky toddler to that. Things he'll eat plain, he won't eat as a sandwich, like cheese or hummus. Luckily DC has a microwave so we can send other things but once he starts school, that won't be an option.
Why is MH so fucking clueless about the baby this time around?! I had to go to the Dr and called him on my way back and said he was giving DS2 (8 months) dinner and he didn't know how I gave him milk so he was giving it to him in an open cup. I asked why he wouldn't use a bottle and he said because it's regular milk. Cow milk. Wtffff??!!!

DH hasn't done that but a couple times I've gone somewhere and come home to him saying DD2 has screamed the whole time. When I ask if he fed her he says no .... well there's your problem.
They really do seem to forget the baby stages quickly

In other "Mr worm is an idiot news" he told DS1 there was a spider in the tub so guess who is now afraid of the tub? I had to give him a sponge bath last night. Also we are under tornado watch and I come home to DS1 talking about the scary tornado. Oh yea. Daddy told him all about tornados.

I'm hysterical over the couch and fuzzy thing. I think a chocolate party would be great, I'd so go to one!
Put ds to bed and walked into the bathroom where Dd is brushing her teeth...she has shorts on over her pjs and 7 stuffed animals on the sink. H is rolling his eyes. Apparently she's testing limits tonight.

Oh wow. I was cooking dinner, was almost finished, and sat the kids at the table. Dh was still driving home from work. I had put a bowl of fruit on the table and went to the counter to get the plates with food on them. I hear: ds1 - awww baby eat blueberries Me - no baby cannot eat blueberries. He can eat the blueberry puffs. Ds1: no baby eat blueberries Me - <run back to the table and check baby as he was shoving a blueberry in his mouth> So I guess baby does eat blueberries. He will be 8 months next week. He eats a lot of stuff, but not choking hazard blueberries!

We are combining the boy's birthday parties since they are just over a month apart. We are doing a lumberjack brunch. DS1 is super excited about it, but I never did ask what he wanted the theme to be. I don't think he has much of an opinion about it.
