I love that idea @unicornofthesea! We are doing a lumberjack theme. We are going to do a big lumberjack brunch. I know it's kind of a hipster theme, but I majored in Forestry and I'm capitalizing on it while it is popular.

This thread is fun! Like I said, we are doing an April showers theme.
We will do the party at our house. We just invite immediate family and our friends who are like family, so around 18 people.
My mom will make the cake, she's a cake decorater.
Food we will either cater or I may just do appitizers, ham and cheese baked sandwiches, meatballs, fruit and salad or something. And wine and beer for the adults
No clue what I'll do for her outfit. Likely just a cute shirt. The big tutu 1st birthday outfits really aren't my style (though very cute!).
We just have 3-4 kids who would come, so I may try and find cute rain boots or a flower growing kit with garden gloves or something as favors.

gooselover2012 I'm also struggling with who to invite. I wanted to have it at our new house but I don't know where to cut off the guest list so we can comfortably fit everyone. We have a lot more space now but not enough to invite all aunts uncles cousins, etc.!
I have been planning for a cookies and milk theme. MH just got the book If You Give a Mouse a Cookie and just thinks it's so funny so he actually suggested it. So I'm looking up cookies, milk, draws and mouse-y things!
wineallthetime that's cool your mom is a cake decorator!
Yeah! She used to have her own business, but only does it on occasion now so she's a bit rusty. She likes doing her grand kids first birthday cakes though

MOTY Alert: DD's and DS2's birthdays are 6 weeks apart. I'm strongly considering doing a joint party at a half way point (end of March).
That was my plan to since S and R's birthdays are less than 6 weeks apart but then we decided to have a joint 1st birthday party with my nephew so my parent can fly in to be here for both.
Going forward I fully intend to have one joint party for the boys. At least while they are young.
In the past I have done an online invitation. What are you guys doing? I was thinking about printing actual invites this time, but I would design them myself.
With DD1 we did an orange color "theme" mostly just for photos since it was a brunch party for our friends. We didn't even tell them it was for her birthday. We did a bloody mary bar and all the brunch norms. The first birthday was... more about us than her.
That was our plan for LO but we just yesterday decided to go visit family so I'm sure they'll want to do something... and they'll hate me when I don't let her actually eat cake.
@unicornofthesea I'm just really weird about sugar. LO loves food, she's a beast. I made DD1 a muffin with cinnamon sweet potato puree on top... it looked like a cupcake in the photos and none of our family was there but I still got comments from my mom about it.
abbeyd, Publix cakes are THE BEST. They made a hamburger one for DD1 + my nephew's joint birthday and then DD1 got a "swimming pool" (her request) cookie cake for her birthday at my in-laws' house. I love the donut theme... I might get sucked into planning a real party since we'll be with all our families this year!
richaroodo, We did one for our DD, actually several. On her actual birthday I just gave her a cupcake. For photos, I made a pretty smash cake. She wouldn't touch it! I gave her a fork and she ate it with that. It was crazy. No mess at all.
Our Publix offers a free smash cake when you enroll in their Baby Club so we'll grab that to use at some point that week. Or, the family will eat the smash cake from them and he'll get a cupcake! I predict this guy will make a huge mess and will eat it all up.
How polite!! I love it. I'm sure R would have no problem throwing his body into the cake. He loves his food.

We'll do a smash cake (not sure if she'll have her own cake or just a piece). With my son we just stripped him to his diaper before and put a sheet under the high chair. He didn't eat much, turns out he was coming down with a stomach bug. Clean up wasn't bad at all.
No cute invites for my kids 😶 I'm going to send out an evite or maybe even just a text. H's family is big, so we don't invite a ton of friends. I'm combining both kids' parties in April 2. DD will be almost 13 months at that point!
