I keep reading that insurance will cover the breast pump. Is this just an American thing? I've checked my insurance and can't find anything, should I call?
I don't know about other countries but when I looked up my insurance benefits it wasn't listed outright. I found it through a separate "Healthy Babies" program they have and had to do some digging. I still need to call to find out all the details but it may be worth a call at least.

What a bummer. I had today off... DS at daycare and my plan was to buy the crib and dresser (had to use my BRU 25% off coupon) and then get some other random stuff I never have time to pick out. Well, I've been fighting off a cold. Today I had that awful stinging feeling in my nose like i always have to sneeze but I can't and then it burns. I ordered the furniture and then took out my list of other things to buy. I wandered around BRU for an hour. No toddler. No husband... and I did not buy one thing!!! I just felt like I was in a fog! I'm so disappointed in myself
If you had to pay out of pocket for a breast pump, what would you do/ buy. I want the Medela, but for over 400 (non sale price) I want to make sure I'm using my money properly.

I am getting the Spectra S2. Everyone I know who has had it also had the PISA and strongly prefers the Spectra after having both. It costs a lot less out of pocket than Medela pumps and I recently saw it on Groupon Goods for even less.

I hate medela. If I was buying out of pocket, I would get an AVENT. It's not super popular because insurance doesn't cover it so most people have never tried it.
I was lucky enough to get one free (worked for the parent company years ago) and it's freaking amazing. It has soft shell inserts that massage for a natural letdown vs just suction. I literally got twice as much milk as with medela.
I'm going to get the spectra from insurance this time but will buy another AVENT if I don't like it. I don't have my old one because I gave it to a friend.

eucalyptus I saw great reviews on the S2, unfortunately it looks like all shipping of the S2 to Canada is blocked ?
Ahhh bummer. That seems like an odd thing to restrict. If it's the one you want I wonder if you can find a way to get it anyway by contacting them?
Yah, health Canada has restricted sale in Canada, I'll have to see if my aunt/cousins will be coming to Canada before then, hopefully they can bring one over. The reviews for it are amazing

I'm getting the S2 this time as well. When I was on the phone with the supplier through my insurance, the woman had great things to say about it. FX you can get one too!

I got an S2 this time, had the PISA last time which was great. I am a little nervous that I can't just buy more parts at target when I need them but at least I have the PISA for backup.

Is it weird to ask your 20 year old cousin to pick up a breast pump? He's going to Nashville for work before coming to Canada, it would be sooo convenient, but also really creepy

No way, do it . Could you have it shipped to his hotel and waiting for him so that he doesn't have to physically buy it?

Offer him some cash, a gift card, or to buy him dinner/drinks when he gets to you. I wouldn't hesitate to ask.

This. I plan on getting a spectra this time but I will for sure get some back up parts on hand. Thank you Amazon!

I'm thinking about getting a S2 this time around too! I'm also a little nervous because I know what I know and that's Medela.

Did you find parts on Amazon? I didn't have any luck.
I just ordered muslim blankets off amazon for $6.99. It's three pack and will take up to 3 months to ship, but it was a good price. One is for my cousins baby shower since they are team green.
animaldoctor yes there were a few on there but it does seem to be slim pickings. Once I get mine in hand I'll see what customer service has to say about ordering replacement parts.
