surprisemomat24, I am sorry you are going through this, I know how scary and unexpected it can be. At a 36 week ultrasound to check DS size they found he had hydronephrosis of his left kidney, it was really scary to find out it could mean anything from not a big deal to losing his kidney. It did end up causing him significant trouble at around 16 months. His kidney started spilling sodium to the point where it became dangerously low and he had to be hospitalized to correct the imbalance and go on a sodium medication. The issue did resolve somewhat and his kidneys operate at 60-40 and he has no need for medication anymore. He has to see a urologist to monitor his function but at this point it looks like surgery will not be needed. I don't know much about cysts but something I had to make peace with is that a person can live a healthy and full life with one kidney. Especially I have been told over and over by his urologist that if a kidney is removed when a child is young the other does a great job of compensating. I am sure that this will not even be scenario for your child but even in that extreme scenario I want you to know it will be ok. Big hugs.
