k3am, you can have my frosting too. I always ask for a middle piece to avoid leaving all that frosting behind and looking ridiculous. This is why I enjoy DQ cakes, NO FROSTING, just ice cream with the fudgy crunch in the middle.
frozenpeas, you can coat check an umbrella??? I'm from CA, so I'm sheltered from rain related stuff, but even on business trips to the east coast, I've always coat checked the coat and shoved my umbrella into a basket.. (And 90% of the time left with a different umbrella. According to my local coworkers, that's how it works and to be expected)
I don't remember a lot of baskets. It was more like leave dripping in the vestibule and then recover later. I always left with mine though so maybe an advantage over the basket?
Bad news...insurance company can't take FIL name off the check since his name was on the title from when DH bought the truck at the tender age of 20. I am now having to send the check to AZ from OR with the hopes that FIL will endorse the check and send it back. I'm sending it certified and hoping the post off can let me prepay the certified mail for him to send it back to us. Fingers crossed he doesn't forge our signatures and keep the 10k for himself (yes I can see him doing this and so can DH). I don't need this drama right now and it is causing major tension with our marriage since we aren't on good terms with DH parents.
You know what really makes you feel like an awesome mom? Taking your kid to his "well child" appointment only to find out he's got pink eye, a double ear infection, and a respiratory virus. Oh yeah, and leaving with a referral for a cranial ultrasound because his head is too freaking big.
I knew he had a cold. When I picked him up early from DC, the director was just on her way to call and have me come get him. Apparently he woke up from his nap and was miserable and goopy eyed.
I'm glad that for once in my life, I actually have NOTHING going on tomorrow and can stay home with him without having to worry about work.

k3am don't beat yourself up. Those things can come on pretty quickly, especially if when he woke up from a nap miserable. I would think of it more as a conveniently scheduled well check.

tas1883, what a mess! So sorry you have that added stress. Is there a way you can contact the bank the check was issued through to ensure he doesn't forge your signatures and cash it himself?
Definitely make a copy of the check and anything else before you send it to him!

Fingers crossed for you that it's nothing. We went through this with Bud and it turns out that his head is freaking big because both mine and H's are too (and my dad and mom, we measured them as well). He was consistently at 99.995%tile until they stopped measuring at 2 years, and he already wears my hats... there was some chart our pediatrician had that used parents' head sizes to predict kids that was really reassuring, but I don't remember any more what it was called Save

k3am, I took my 2yo to her well check a couple months back and found she had a double ear infection and eye infection too. We will have to share the MOTY award. Hope he feels better!
tas1883 - been there! They cashed the check because they were "confused". I was pregnant and had an unholy absolute fit. Cash was returned promptly.
k3am - been there too - the timing always makes me cringe and at the same time celebrate that I already had time built into the schedule for the ped AND the sick visit becomes free because it is billed to insurance as a well check. Yay for having a day free to handle!

k3am - ditto sudokufan - pedi totally freaked me out and sent DS1 for a CT scan at 6 mo due to the size of his head. Ped Neurologist measured DH and I - we're both 99th percentile for adult males. She said to chalk this one up to genetics. We had to buy both kids adult sized bike helmets and they can't wear kid sized hats. It is what it is!

Write "deposit only" with your account number on the back. That should keep him from depositing it in his account or cashing it.
Another option is to send him a power of attorney allowing you to sign his name for this specific purpose.
k3am, like everyone else, my kid has a big giant head because her parents have big heads. Doctor expressed concern at some point, and we let him know we're both above average in that department. When I was born, they thought I had hydrocephaly because my head was so big - filled with water and not brains. I just have a big head. Bad for hat shopping, otherwise good.
