I am venting and trying to get over it.
Last year, I requested a valentine list from the general ed teacher when DS was in 1st grade. We never got that list and many of the kids gave DS cards addressed to other kids and blank cards but with from filled in. I am thinking the teacher was not planning on including DS because we didn't get a list but he got to go to this party anyway.
This year, the 2nd grade general ed teacher sent a list of students in her class on Thursday. I saw the lists in the folder but didn't read the names because I was busy with the routines of the evening.
On Friday, was parent/teacher conference and they have no school the entire day. DH and I went to hear what the teachers, SW and PT had to say. Before we left, I asked if either of the teachers wanted anything for the Valentine's Day parties and they said they sent lists.
On Saturday, I still have not looked at the lists and took DS to 3 stores in search of valentine cards and a few groceries. I looked on the list that night and DS's name was not listed in the general ed class. I was like okay maybe the teacher added DS's name on the other lists. Or maybe she was not planning on having DS join in the general ed Valentine's Day party. I had DS write out his cards.
Yesterday, DS gave his cards out to both general ed and ASD classes. He came home with a few cards from general ed students that remembered he was apart of the class. My only guess was the teacher bought a box of valentines for DS because she forgot to include him on the list because the rest of the class sent the same cards 19 times.
I was really mad that night because DS was excited yesterday morning because it was Valentine's Day when I woke him up to get ready for school. I told DH but it was too late for me to say anything to the teachers to prevent DS from being Charlie Brown.
I feel stupid for even sharing my feelings over this.
I just want DS to be included so bad despite his special needs.
