I think being apart politically from your spouse is one thing. I mean, as long as the issues weren't rooted in bigotry and they were more conservative on the government spending/military side, I could probably deal. But if my spouse was actually defending this joke of an administration, I would lose my mind. I am dumbfounded how anyone can be okay with what's going on, regardless of party.
This really sums up my marriage perfectly as far as politics goes. We look at things differently WRT the role of government in issues and spending. However, we both think this administration is a joke and see eye to eye when it comes to civil rights and equality issues. So, in the end it doesn't cause tension because we agree on what I consider the most important issues.
I have one: I don't get why people are calling Trump, "45." I mean, I get that he's the 45th president and I saw the meme that said, "don't say his name" that seemed to start this, but I don't get why that should be a thing I do.
Fear of a name only increases fear of the thing itself
I feel like people do it to make themselves feel better as it's something I have control over. You can feel like you're resisting a tiny bit. So it's a kind of slacktivism i guess
Trump is so egomaniacal that he probably loves the sound of his own name so it's kind of a passive aggressive jab at him there
Also side note I believe there's a browser plug in that replaces his name with all the ridiculous things Jezebel calls him which is great

Your H is the single most reasonable republican I have ever met. I love talking politics with him.

When I saw mention that Brux (and possibly Cher) recently took a trip to Nashville I was more disappointed than I ought to have been at the fact that I didn't seize my chance meet them and become their new bff.
I confess that I understand why one group of people voted for Trump. If you are a rich, white person and you tell me you voted for Trump, my reaction is like ok I can see that.

We were looking for you. I was the drunk one with the sequined shirt.
Dear heavenly mother of dildos, Goddess to all below. Please let our friend Jap emerge from her sexual adventures shard free. May the glass of her dildo only be ribbed for her pleasure. May you be kind with temperature changes and the laws of nature. Amen. In the pussy.

it still pisses me off though, that their own personal financial position is more important than the civil rights of many.
And I say this as a white person who pays oodles of taxes.

We talk about this in the politics thread and it seems to come down to, shall we say, alternative facts. His supporters believe the bullshit he spins. So they think he is the most bigly trenendous productive tall handsome beloved president of all time. OF ALL TIME.
And low intelligence.
I creep all the Republican friends that I unfollowed whenever something happens (like yesterday). The level of delusion is so rich that I can only justify it by telling myself they are just not that smart.

This could be us but you playin.
I only speak facts. SweetPotato was there too.
I have a really awesome picture of us at the Johnny Cash museum that I should try to recreate in MS Paint to show you just how great it could've been for you.

Oh, I completely agree. It's still selfish and it's not voting in favor of what's best for the country as a whole. I meant it like it makes logical sense because at least they are voting in their own self interest and not against it. If you are going to vote for someone who an incompetent bigot then FFS it better at least be good for you on a personal level. As opposed to working class whites and minorities who are basically voting against themselves. That's like a total WTF.

Agreed. But I get it. The thing is, they so rarely justify it this way.
I'm a white person who pays a shit ton of taxes, but I couldn't in good faith vote for such a fuckwad who could potentially harm so many people I care about. But I understand that there are people out there that can. But they never use that as their justification for their vote. If they said, "my money is my top priority." Fine. It's not mine but fine. But they always go on some rant about Obama, HRC, EMAILS!, Benghazi, jobs, need a businessman, blah blah blah.
At which point, I default to my previous point, and I just tell myself you're not that bright.

Like the week of inauguration we were walking around the White House and there was this group of teenagers wearing MAGA hats. One of them was Hispanic and I wanted to scream at him
HELLO THIS MAN IS PLANNING ON BUILDING A WALL TO KEEP YOUR PEOPLE OUT
