Well, when hurricane Sandy hit my hometown, we waited until the power went out to try and find a flashlight, so that should give you an idea. And, the next morning we walked outside and saw that coastal flooding stopped 3 houses down from us. We then spent about a week driving 20-30 west to restaurants and stores with power. Basically, we suck.
We now have a generator, but that's simply because my parents downsized homes and no longer had a place to store it.
We have a pretty good supply of canned food. We also have a case of water bottles because we've had several times where we've been under a water boil advisory. That's about it.
We do have a shit ton of candles but no flashlights. Guess I should start stocking stuff.

We have inlaws with non perishable food, generator, guns, ammo...that's where we went after the last hurricane. As long as we could get to them I think we'd be ok.
We have a few larger items like a generator, propane tank, and a camp stove. Our smaller items include flashlights, matches, rope, tarp, canned food, and rice. We have talked about needing to add more supplies but haven't. I think I'll slowly add items here and there while shopping.
I didn't notice famine hygiene products on anyone's list, but thought that would be handy to add.
We're in the ring of fire for volcanos big time. We have
Guns, much, much ammo Generator Fuel MRE's Flashlights/headlamps/candles Cash Booze (for personal consumption and bartering) Jet Boil and propane Water purification pills
We need for the car: First aid kits Window smasher/seatbelt cutter Water Extra clothes and towels seem like a good idea.
I like the idea of first aid kits on each floor of the house too.
I've been making notes from you guys...we have a lot, but could improve. We've had tornadoes pass north and south of our town, and when DS was a month old, we had a massive 100+ yo tree come down on our street and take out power for 12+ hours. I was changing diapers by the light of my cell phone That was when we realized we should prep a bit. And when my folks gave us their old generator.
My H went over board with the first aid kit; we have the tools and whisky to do a field amputation, god forbid. Or at least to remove shrapnel and suture you up after. MREs for 2.5 adults for 2 months, bottled water, rechargeable batteries, crank radio, water purification pills, some kind of water purification straw thingies, candles, crank lantern, hunting gear, and then our normal freezer full of meat and canned goods. We try to have a week of canned goods on hand and just rotate through them, but that's harder as I don't really have the pantry space and the meals would get really weird by day 3...
Basically I searched forever and this was easy and better than nothing so when we moved it was added to the new house budget. I added extra water and mres and another utility knife.
I know Larry happened. Please do not try to convince me otherwise. Please don't talk to me about coffee. I don't drink it. I don't caffeine. When I state my opinion, that is me chiming in on a topic. This is not me saying you suck at life if you do or feel differently. If I want to say that, I will. If I want to speak on you, I will.
