I need gluten free dessert ideas. We have friends coming for dinner and the dude has celiac disease. Dinner is steak/ chicken and potatoes and they are bringing salad. Any thouhts? My best idea so far is ice cream but I feel like if boring.
Cross-contamination is a big deal for someone with full blown celiac. Due to that, I would recommend either doing something naturally gluten free or buying premade. There's several bakeries here that sell celiac friendly (and delicious) desserts made with alternative flours.
A sundae bar would be simple and fun. Watch out for hidden gluten in sauces and sprinkles.

There are lots of box mixes available as well. King Arthur GF brownies are delicious.
Don't be insulted if he doesn't eat it, for some the risk of cross-contamination is too great and a lot of people with Celiac have other food allergies.
Yes to king arthur! I made a king arthur chocolate cake for dh and it tasted 100% like normal cake.
Daiya cheezecake is super good and is somehow also gluten, dairy free and vegan.
Fruit and gluten-free dip or chocolate?
Really? I've hated the shreds and frozen pizza so I didn't bother with the cheesecake.
I've only ever had their cheesecake--strawberry and chocolate. They've been a huge hit with everyone when I serve them, including with people who don't have restrictions and like cheesecake.
ETA: they are a bit on the small side, however, so I like to have fruit or something to put on the side and pretty up the plates.

+1 to the daiya cheesecake being surprisingly amazing. I would be cautious of baking anything at home as your baking pans are probably heavily glutened.
I always like fresh berries and fresh whipped cream. But I'm weird. But it's especially nice after a huge dinner to have a dessert that doesn't feel like a rock in your stomach..
Or a caramelized fruit (pineapples, bananas, pears or apples) that you do in a cast iron pan.
Serve with gelato/ sorbet.
Gah! Cast iron is the worst for contamination! This makes me nervous.
Eek– good to know! I am obviously not gluten free, and I never thought about the cast iron pan as a place for contamination, because I don't bake in it, but I guess even with soy sauce and other hidden gluten sauces, it makes sense that it might retain that. SaveSave

I learned the hard way with a dairy trace reactive daughter. And if pancakes or a grilled cheese had ever been made in it... Allergies suck.
Thanks for all the help! I think I will fix a bowl of mixed berries and make whipped cream. Dinner will be heavy so something lighter will be better. I will be super careful and aware of cross contamination. This is about the 5th time they have been over for dinner so I'm guessing my cooking and food prep doesn't make him sick or else they would suggest going out. I have just run out of ideas!
Sometimes our Costco has GF cheesecake that is surprisingly delicious if you can find it (my brother has Celiac and devours it at every opportunity).
I also have an amazing GF pound cake recipe that I make on the regular whether my brother is around or not. It's the best pound cake I've ever had. If you are looking to bake from scratch let me know

There's a Dory Greenspan clementine cake which is GF and really tasty. But, of he's very sensitive to gluten I agree you might not want to bake--I generally assume there's some flour contamination in my sugar jar and such.
Things that are GF and tasty: Ice cream (with chocolate or fruit compote or something to pretty it up) Coconut macaroons A fruit crisp (some have flour but you can find ones that don't) Grilled fruit with a bit of honey or maple syrup Flourless chocolate cake An after-dinner drink
Any of the stuff you buy you should check labels obviously--coconut macaroons don't require flour but you never know what they'll do do you have to check

You can caramelize fruits on the grill or under the broiler in your oven
