I need more specifics please! Vacation read? Something to read before bed? Just plain old regular read? Intense or light hearted? Do you typically like a particular genre?
I like a vacation read, plain old regular read, light hearted. Just don't make me cry in public or give me some sci-fi stuff.
Mh and I are both a drink in and he's currently going on a tangent about how catboy from PJ Masks is cocky and he doesn't like him. Last night I told him Minnie Mouse was kind of being a bitch to Daisy in an episode. We are living such a fun life over here.
OMG like I seriously need a white candle from the voodoo shop and to burn sage and shit. I go to pick up DD and my headlights won't come on in the truck. Nothing. My high beams work and parking lights. Just low beams. DAMN DAMN DAMN
I know Larry happened. Please do not try to convince me otherwise. Please don't talk to me about coffee. I don't drink it. I don't caffeine. When I state my opinion, that is me chiming in on a topic. This is not me saying you suck at life if you do or feel differently. If I want to say that, I will. If I want to speak on you, I will.

I will read anything, but usually gravitate to historical fiction
It doesn't have to be fluff, but nothing too intense - I don't have the brain capacity at the moment
That's how I feel. I haven't had the brain capacity in a while, honestly.
Now I asked him if I should learn Spanish before we go to Barcelona and he told me the only sentence I need to know which translates to asking for Sangria. He gets me.

Like approximately 3 years 3 months? 😂
Exactly.
Right after law school, I went through like a two year slump like that. I felt like I spent so much time reading heavy shit, I could barely handle chick lit. I basically wanted to read US Weekly. My genius phd professor cousin said it's really common and she felt it sometimes and it's totally fine to give your brain a break.
So, I did. And then I started reading heavy shit again for a couple of years. And then I had a kid.

My go-to vacation recommendation is The Rosie Project. It's funny, lighthearted, and a really quick read.
You might also like The Paris Wife. It's slightly more dramatic, but in a good way. It's a fictional story about Ernest Hemingway's first wife. It's set in Paris and has lots of romance, scandal, absinthe, and betrayal.

Finally home! Gift done, cake eaten, kitchen cleaned, floors picked up & swept. Kids are asleep or watching a movie, & I have garaged. It's been a long but wonderful day😎
No massage. Fuckers. Maybe I shouldn't have specified a woman masseuse. I never do. But the idea of having a strange man in my home when my kids are here and my husband isn't just wasn't something I could get on board with.

Ooohhh LOVE Barcelona. When are you going?
We're going in September without my kid. We spend a week in Casablanca and a week in Barcelona. I'm excited. We've never been.
Eta: The trip is for Mh's MBA program. He will have meetings half the day and the rest to do his own thing and a few free days. So I may ask for recs on things to do on my own while he is busy.
If you haven't read Philippa Gregory (ThenOther Boleyn Girl is probablynher most well known) she is my favorite for historical fiction.
I once read this terrible book (actually it was a trilogy) about these Victorian-era girls at an academy who can do magic or sumshit. For years and years I've been blaming Philippa Gregory for that abomination of a book, but I just discovered with a little googling that the author was actually Libba Bray.
Now that I don't irrationally hate Philippa Gregory anymore, I'll have to give her a try!
OH god.. I read the first one. It was.. yeah. I didn't read the rest of the books.
Also I just discovered that if I buy a book from Amazon and determine it's utter crap, I just get a refund. It took me YEARS of reading through shit books to "get my money's worth" to learn this.
McBenny, I feel the need to tell you.. whenever DD takes a bath, she goes.. "I need to wash my pits and my splits??" (She has no tits, so I've left those out.)
You're the reason my daughter is clean(ish) since I'm not longer allowed to be involved in the washing process.
hawkward, your SIL has terrible tastes in books. Had you verified her tastes in books prior to taking advice?
A good friend recommended Red Rising. It was.. equally awful. I don't think I finished it. And then I remembered.. I'm friends with him because we share a love of scotch, not because he's a bookworm.
