It's my birthday! H is about to go to the store to get food. He's going to cook for me today. Then we're going to just laze around and do whatever I want!
Last night's event went until 12:30am. I feel hungover, but clearly am not. It was too late to be out (we got home at 1:30!).

Good Morning!
I'm up getting ready to meet up with a friend. She wants to check out the buy buy baby here. I may need to keep my wallet at home. I've had the urge to buy all of the things lately.
I'm so nervous/excited for my anatomy scan tomorrow. It's all I can think about.

Oooh good luck tomorrow!
And don't buy anything! Do you know if you're having a shower? You'll get so much shit. Then you can just use your completion discount to finish up.

+1 if you're having a shower. People keep asking us if we've bought anything. We're first-time parents and are having a shower. Definitely waiting until after that.

I'm hoping to have a shower. My MIL said she'd throw one for us, it might be out of state for us if we don't move in time. I'm holding off on everything right now, but did buy myself a Ergo baby carrier because it was 20% off. 😊 I couldn't resist.

If stuff goes on sale at a good price, you should actually buy it
<- shower was 90% useless crap I donated and had to buy the majority of the big things ourselves
the bandaid fell off while she was nursing to sleep and now there's blood EVERYWHERE. But she's asleep so I guess my shirt just gets to be stained now. Lol
Oops! How's her finger today?
Not sure. It's still got a bandaid on it. Figure we'll leave it covered for a few days if we can.

This is what I'm worried about. When I think of the possible guest list, I feel like maybe 3-4 people would go off the registry. The rest would go for cutesy outfits. And there would be less than 30 people there. So if I get a good deal on something, I may just get it.

Okay tell me if this is a silly idea. You know how some people do a "diaper raffle" and you get entered to win something if you bring diapers?
What about doing a "registry raffle" where you get entered to win something if you bring an item from the registry, to encourage people to buy things you actually need?
Also if my host did this, would it be silly to give away a nice piece of jewelry or a bag from Stella & Dot (the line of jewelry I sell)? Like maybe an engraved piece where the winner could personalize what they want?

akraus2015, I was wondering about the diaper raffle as well, since we will be cloth diapering. I guess using the registry would work, if you had a lot of stuff of there that wasn't too expensive. And if friends or family went in on something together, give them each their own ticket.

Yeah that's what I was thinking. I have a lot of smaller items I think. One wetbag, or one diaper, or bath toys, etc.
Also my husband will probably have a diaper party, as those are really common with his friends, and we plan to tell people that they shouldn't feel like they need to bring diapers, but if they do want to bring something we're going to adopt a local needy family to donate the diapers to.

akraus2015 I think in order for that to work you'd have to have a massive registry with a ton of items at different price points. I personally don't think it would be that well received by certain people.
One of the things you could do instead is ask them to bring a book in place of a card. Most people like that and it helps build baby's library. So you could technically do a book raffle.

Eh, it's something I personally wouldn't feel comfortable doing. People know they're suppose to buy off registry and generally if they don't they feel like they have a good reason not to, even if the recipient doesn't agree. I would just feel weird essentially saying you appreciate some of the presents you get more than others. I'm kind of weird about receiving gifts though and went into our registry and showers with the mindset that we'd be buying everything since it's our kid and anything that's gifted to us is an added bonus, not an expectation
ETA- not that you're saying you expect anything, it's just a general vibe I get when people talk about getting gifts that they didn't register for
I totally get where you are coming from. I can see how it would rub some people the wrong way. It's like the books for cards, I find it rude to dictate what your guests should gift you. And what do you do if you get multiples of the same book?
Gift giving parties are hard to navigate sometimes. Especially when you have a wide range of different backgrounds and ages.

Oh jeez. I'm sorry some of you have people that don't buy off the registry!! So if that's the case, then yes, I would definitely buy stuff on sale as you find it. We are lucky that in our circles most people stick to the registries. Makes it easy.

This is pretty much my feelings on it also.
I think things like this can be super hard to broach etiquette wise. The hostess of one of my showers "surprised me" by requesting books since she knew I was looking forward to stocking the shelves. Fortunately she managed to throw it in as an idea rather than a set request... but I still felt sort of awkward haha

I try to always buy from registries or get gift cards so they can buy off of their registries.
I think sometimes people feel like they "know better" what you need (and maybe they do sometimes) but it can definitely be hard when you have essentials you need.
**i realized this kind of sounds like I'm addressing his to you and I just meant it as continuing conversation 😂
