We are holding steady with our 2 Foster babies. The bios seem like a mess but maybe dad is invested where mom seems very disengaged. I'm loving their caseworker as he shares so much information. There is a potential kinship study in progress so it doesn't seem like we will have them long term at this point but of course things change all the time.
Thanks for starting, kj1013 ! I'm glad to hear you guys are doing well and have a great caseworker right now. That can make all the difference.
We are doing well and still adjusting to life as parents of 3 little ones! The baby is much fussier than our middle foster son was as an infant, so that's been a big adjustment for us. It's hard to keep him happy (he wants to be held and/or fed whenever he's not sleeping) while trying to keep up with the older boys.
Last week we were thrilled to find out that after months of problems with our caseworker, our former caseworker was put back on our case!!! Just in time too, since we have another permanency hearing this month. It sounds like everyone involved in the case will be asking for a goal change for our older 2 boys, so hopefully that will be what is decided by the judge. The baby will be a totally separate case, so we're back to square one with him, and the bio parents will get another 1+ years to try to work on a new service plan.
QOTW: I haven't read a book in long time, but the last thing I read was Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, which is always fun.
We had a busy February with having been officially placed with FS-who turned 4 in February and FD who is 2 and are brother and sister. So adjusting to life from just my husband and I to having 2 little ones around (plus our dog) has been interesting.
Many phone calls, e-mails, headaches, etc we have a visitation schedule, daycare reimbursement figured out, our monthly foster care rate determined, getting kids somewhat adjusted (well as much as we can in a month....still hiccups and trauma as always/expected), met with GAL, had a team meeting, etc
The bio parents have an in home worker who we had in one of our foster care classes so we have started to be BCC on her reports to the social workers and we have done the same for her. That started just on Tuesday on one of the visit days and it helps to know this additional information and helps understand how and why the kids are the way they are but it is so heartbreaking to hear everything that goes on. And makes it that much harder to not judge the parents.
I also had 3 different people ask me if I regretted "signing up" for this/is it worth it after I was just having a bad day. Um....you have kids that stress you out but because we are doing foster care we can't be irritated with kids?
QOTM: I haven't had much chance to read currently but I love the FBI series by Catherine Coulter and Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich

Happy March everyone! Cant believe it is already March and Spring is coming!!!
Akafred - I wanted to say I have very same issue myself having ADD and Anxiety and cannot take meds for ADD. It is not easy, but working with psychiatrist I was able to find an okay point for myself. I hope you can find the right meds for your girl soon. As a mom of a girl who also has ADHD, I know medication can also save our life!
People I am tired! I am so tired I could totally sleep right now on my desk chair while drinking red bull! I could sleep for 2 days...
Our girl is doing wonderful at school. This week we had parents/teacher meeting and teachers said so many good things about my girl I even questioned for a moment if they are talking about my daughter...lol She is doing amazing and I am so proud of her! She only tried to strangulate the nanny once this week and pushed a child at school. Compared to how it was before, this is amazing!
For the adoption process of our second child, it is almost to the end! There were two girls we were interested at my our SW already said they are not good matches so we are just waiting...
QOM: The only things I am reading at the moment are forms that I have to fill out for adoption. waiver services, IEP, Summer programs, and kids books at night! right now we are reading a book about birds...
We are getting closer to finalizing the adoption of our two youngest boys! I'm so reluctant to say or do anything to jinx it. But we are hopefully in the final six weeks of waiting. The final report is on the director's desk and that takes three weeks to process and it's been there a week now. After he signs off, we can set a court date! So I am hoping it will be mid-end of April depending on how busy the court calendar is. Our oldest boy's adoption will probably be finalized this summer since his parental rights were terminated at the end of January. We've had him longer so I'm hoping we won't have to be officially "selected" for him before we can get the ball rolling. He's a teen so I'm hoping they will be anxious to get his case resolved.

Hello all! Our foster care license was official this morning. There's a huge drug epidemic in our area and the need for foster parents of little ones is great, so we have been told to expect a call anytime. We are licensed for two, but since this will be our first placement and I have a two and a half year old DS, I've asked them to start with one unless it's an emergency, short term placement of a sibling set. I'm both excited and terrified. Any tips for explaining this situation to my son if we do get a placement?
Our first baby turned 4 last week. I love looking back through the emails regarding our match and then his birth. It's crazy for me that this is all now 4 years ago!!
Our baby is almost 2.5. I am struggling to stop calling him my baby . He's been making lots of progress with his talking and is now using some short sentences on his own without any prompting
We have court tomorrow for our older two foster sons. It sounds like everything is finally in place for a goal change, and everyone involved in the case will be asking for a goal change to (ultimately) adoption (pending TPR). Even though it seems like it should be a sure thing at this point, I know there are usually no "sure things" with foster care and things could still go wrong or be delayed even further. I'd appreciate any good thoughts and prayers you could send our way tomorrow. Thanks.

So many FX for you and YH and foster sons! I pray everything goes smoothly and no delays.

So we have our monthly team meeting on Thursday...should be interesting with bio parents getting increased visits even though we haven't seen any improvement and many issues that need to be addressed that we have been communicating. Also, bio mom sent me a facebook friend request....um not happening.

We have a goal change for our older two foster sons!!!!!!!!!!!!! So excited and happy!!
Also please send some thoughts and prayers for our baby foster son. He's had worsening vomiting/spitting up, now with dehydration and constipation, and we may be taking him to the ER today after seeing the pediatrician. Hopefully we can figure out what is wrong with him... Poor little guy.

They are expediting a home study for a kinship placement for our foster babies so they will most likely be leaving at the court hearing at the end of the month. Them leaving will be harder on me this time because the extent of the neglect was so much more obvious with this placement
Thanks for your thoughts and prayers. We ended up taking our baby foster son to the ER on Tuesday where he was diagnosed with a condition called pyloric stenosis. It's somewhat common but quite serious and requires surgery to fix. I was in the hospital with him from Tuesday through Thursday, and he had the surgery on Wednesday afternoon. So far he seems to be recovering well. I'd appreciate your continued thoughts and prayers for our little guy as he regains strength and heals from the surgery. Thanks!

Glad that the procedure went well. My friend's little guy had that last year (she adopted him as a newborn). He is great now, but I know it was a scary time. Lots of positive thoughts for you guys. (And late to the party but such great news about your two older boys!!)

Had regression back to how our FS and FD were when they first came in our care doing respite/fostering due to we believe the increased visitation that is going on....very frustrating. Along with our monthly team meeting where we felt ignored. The GAL sees the BS and will be at next court hearing and team meeting with parents. The next monthly meeting with us and so the team can see us with the kids she said she doesn't need to be there for-which tells me a lot right there.

I'm sorry - I'm sure this was so stressful!! I am glad they figured out what was wrong and that it sounds like he is on the mend!
Today is the anniversary of our finalization with DS. Can't believe it's been 6 years! We're still trying to decide what we'll do tonight but usually it's some kind of special dinner. Maybe Sundaes, lol.
ceejay , I totally missed your update on the goal change. I am so excited for you guys! What is the new timeline now for TPR and adoption?
Thanks! I'm not sure of the details of our timeline... my state is VERY SLOW when it comes to processing TPR and adoption. We have court again in May, which is a pre-trial for TPR, and I think TPR will be scheduled for sometime later in the summer or fall. Our caseworker said it will probably be another year or so before adoptions could be finalized.
Then we have the baby on a totally separate case, so if his case ends up going toward adoption too, we might wait a bit for the older two boys so that we could adopt everyone together. Either way, it will be a while! But at least we're officially heading in that direction now for our older boys!

I haven't been around in a long, long time. The wait got the best of me and I had to step aside. In January, we met with and matched with an expectant mom. It ended about a week later. To make a long story short, it might have been a scam but no one is sure. Just a few weeks later we matched again! Our little girl was born in March 4. We were out of state, so we hung out for 10 days until we cleared ICPC. Today is the day she's been in her new home state longer than her birth state! I hope to get back involved around here!

theatrepal - we waited about a year and a half with nothing for our first son. Suddenly we were matched (Feb 2013) and our son was born a few weeks later. It's such a roller coaster going from that long wait (we were definitely losing all hope) to becoming instant parents
Our second adoption was the exact opposite. We waited 1 month and then became almost instant parents of 2 under 2
