Since I've officially been diagnosed with gestational diabetes (yay?) I decided to open up a thread for everyone who is taking or has taken their glucose screening/tolerance test(s). Hopefully I'm the only one here that ends up with a diagnosis
Me: 29 DH: 35 NTNP since May 2013 charting since June 2014 dx: Graves disease (radioactive iodine), Crohns disease (abdominal surgeries) MMC October 2015 (9 weeks) Severe MFI diagnosis July 2015
eucalyptus my next steps is referral to the diabetes clinic where I'll start testing my blood sugar. My OB seems to think that my sugar won't be easy to control.
For me (take with a grain of salt as I'm a FTM and these can be "normal" pregnancy symptoms) I still had nausea/ vomiting frequently, I also get dizzy/ break out sweating if I stand too long and I've been extremely thirsty (despite drinking 90oz of water a day). I feel like it's extremely uncommon, and I likely am diagnosed due to a family history (and the fact that my body hates me)
@marshain I'll find out at my appointment on Tuesday, my OB seems to think I'll be put on insulin based on how badly I failed the tests. It also sucks that I'm on bedrest and can't really exercise. On the plus side my diet is really well controlled already so I really haven't made many modifications (I actually taught diabetes education as part of my job). Good luck on your test
teachermomtobe, I feel like you only feel like shit if you failed it, it made me super super sick but I failed pretty epically. Oh and the one hour isn't bad, it's the three hour that sucks

Dang! Sorry you got diagnosed with GD! Hopefully you can keep it well controlled and have no complications. I just got my results...I only had one slightly elevated number from the 3 hour test and two would qualify a GD diagnosis. So I barely escaped. They told me to still watch my direct sugar intake. I'll talk about it with OB at my next appt...still a little nervous about it all.
cheezee, yay!!! So happy you passed! I'm guessing you should also watch to make sure your sugars don't get to low as well.
We actually have a really small baby so my OB does not feel like that will be an issue at all, that being said baby will probably see some NICU time to monitor blood sugars after birth and I have a C section date of May 18 (38 weeks)

ihatepizza what a bummer, hopefully it's manageable for the next few months.
Im confused, are we supposed to take it twice? I got a 136 from Tuesday (26 weeks) no one has called me so I'm guessing I'm in the clear. Really don't want to repeat it again ever.

I took mine Tuesday at 25 weeks. I thought I would fail, but I passed by a large margin. So the increased hunger, big weight gain, tiredness, light headrdness, etc. isn't from blood sugar issues, at least. I also had to take it at like 10 weeks or something. Not sure why, apparently that's just what they do at this office. I didn't feel that great after that one, but I still passed by a large margin. I had the red drink this time instead of the orange. I'm not sure if I like it better. So much sugar. I felt like it was burning my throat going down!

Once around 26-28 weeks is the norm. I did not take it twice during my first pregnancy. DD was a large baby (9.4) and I gained 60lbs so my midwife thought maybe I had late onset GD with her and was convinced I'd fail the test this time. Not the case so far.
Like applemuffins I was worried because of more weight gain this time and feeling a little funnier after sugary food. But luckily I got the call Monday that I passed. lulu783 DD was also a big baby - 8 lbs 9 oz at birth but they predicted a 10-pounder and they kept asking me whether I had undiagnosed GD. But my numbers with her were really low the first time.
Good luck to anyone dealing with GD! My friends who have had it also had zero risk factors.
Yeah I didn't fast but did intentionally avoid sugar all day (I did mine in the afternoon). So eggs for breakfast, salad and a little bit of fruit for lunch...

Secretly I am so glad I was diagnosed, all these symptoms that I though were "normal pregnancy" were probably low/ high blood sugar. I've felt better in the last couple days than I have all pregnancy

Sorry to everyone who failed/has to do the 3 hour test! I had GD with DS so I won't be too surprised if I have it this time around. My OB and me take a 1 hour around 22 weeks and I passed that one, but I will need to take another this week. We agreed that if I fail the 1 hour then we will just assume I have GD and forget the 3 hour. I hated the 3 hour so much and refuse to do it again.
For those who have/will have GD- try not to stress too much! I was terrified when I found out I had it, but honestly it wasn't too awful. I got used to the meal plans and what I needed to do to control it and it became second nature. DS was perfectly healthy when born. If I have it this time I will be bummed, but I know it's not the end of the world. I'm here if anyone has any questions about it!

ihatepizza I totally get that. Not that I wanted GD, but having a reason for the extra weight gain besides "pregnancy sucks" and a plan to help curb it would have been a little reassuring in its own way.
Oh no ttcbabyj do you know when your three hour is? applemuffins is right, fasting actually make my numbers so much worse
I'm just waiting for my doctor to email me. I was able to view my results through my medical portal. Hopefully, I can do the 3 hour test as soon as possible. I know my doctor is going to freak out. She warned me of GD and told me it makes me even more high risk with my unicornuate uterus. I honestly don't have any symptoms and I haven't gained any real weight with this pregnancy. I guess we'll see. I know PCOS increases my chances of GD.
ttcbabyj I'm a PCOS'er too...I've always wondered if that's what made mine elevated. I had a 2hr GTT with RE before getting pregnant and it was normal though.

Just finished the orange drink and am waiting for my blood draw. At least they kept the drink in the fridge so it was cold. TCF and podcasts will keep me company.
