Hugs W. I've fallen asleep briefly a couple times on the sofa while nursing DD and it always freaks me out. I'm sure your little man is ok - I know it's hard but try not to beat yourself up too much.
littlelion Girl Scout cookies and coffee together are the best!
@cahistoryteacher my DD was born with hip dysplasia and her hip doctor said the bumbo seats are horrible for their hips. I think worse for babies that already have hip issues, but not good in general. What about propping in a boppy instead?
Do any of you guys know where to buy multipacks of cute cotton beanie hats that are NOT newborn or 3 month sized? DD has a big old head and the hats she fits into are the 6 or 9 month ones from Carters - but they don't sell them alone, just in sets with onesies and stuff.
Also, anyone else skipping cereal and starting with fruits/veggies? I think that's what we are going to try in a few months.
emilie I use the boppy on soft surfaces but I want something a little more structured for when she's on the hardwoods or in the kitchen with me. I'm asking the pedi about them tomorrow at our appointment. Also, not at this appointment but at our 4 months I plan to discuss food. I kind of want to try baby led feeding. We'll see what she says.
We started with avocado and sweet potato at 6 months. will probably do the same. I want to talk to the allergist though and see what we should be doing about introducing the foods M is allergic to.
I'd be interested to know what the allergist says. One of the big pediatric allergy groups just said to introduce things at a normal time(rather than wait a year for peanut butter for example). But I wonder how it works out if you have known issues in the family.
Question - have any of you started giving your LO cereal? If so, how old us he/she and what signs did they give you, if any, that helped you make the decision to start?
We were told no food until 6 months, which I think goes along with AAP recommendation of "only breast milk or formula until 6 months" which came out a few years ago. It used to be 4 months for cereal (it was in 2009 when Mady was little) but they've since changed the recommendation until their bodies are more developed and they are better sitters. Then you generally skip cereal (empty calories) and do veggies/fruits instead.

DS1 had a bunch of food allergies. It never even crossed my mind before we started trying foods. Oh that was so much fun with baby #1. Not.
His allergist basically told us we wouldn't know if DS2 would be allergic to anything until we tried it. And if he was, it most likely wouldn't be the same things. I have seasonal and drug allergies. DH has seasonal and apparently food allergies to like 3 different foods. It just makes him itchy, but he can eat it and says he's fine. DS2 didn't end up with any food allergies, but has a bunch of drug allergies... none of which I'm allergic to. He did end up with a bad rash on his face at one point that wouldn't go away, but we never figured out what it was from - whether it be a new food, his formula or something else.

DS2's birthday weekend was fun and exhausting! Friday we went to the children's museum and lunch. Saturday we tried to go bowling, but it was full with youth leagues so went to lunch, had DS2 take his nap and then went back. Came home and had our friends and their son over for cake. I'm still recovering. Yawn.

For the kitchen we are putting her in a Baby Bjorn bouncer...we are lucky in that we are borrowing one from a friend, because it's overpriced. DD LOVES it. She will sit in it for as long as we let her. She likes to be able to kick her feet to make the chair bounce. It's also got multiple settings for multiple ages.
Here's my moan. Story time at the library. There was about 20 kids. Most of the LO's with their grandmothers were running hog-wild. One grandmother asks me every freaking week how old D is like it's her first time seeing him. DS2 was on my lap, D sleeping next to me and the little girl starts trying to climb on my lap. The grandmother didn't try to her. Like I need another kid on me? Then there's the dad in the library afterward who goes to sit on the little couch to put his face in his phone and accidentally kicks me as I'm feeding D. Every week a different kid sits through it with a crap in their pants. And at some point they'll be on their parents lap. You don't smell that? Oh yes you do. Change it! WTF!

@kc295905 we think he has for the most part. He could not tolerate stone fruits at all even as an ingredient. You wouldn't believe everything that apple, peaches, pears are put in. It's crazy. Luckily, now he can have it as an ingredient. He still won't eat the actual fruit itself, so we're not sure how he'd do with them. Whether it'd still cause vomiting and diarrhea or not. He seems ok now with peas, but I still check him every time he eats a couple pea pods. He won't eat plain peas. It seemed he started outgrowing it around 3 and on?
I saw the recommendations about peanut butter too. No thanks. Way too afraid. Also, that may be for LO's without a family history of allergies?

mrswillie it actually includes those infants with siblings who have a history of allergies. I think most of the time they're introduced under a doctor's supervision. I'm def going that route.
I am so nervous about figuring out if Abigail has Celiac like I do. It's going to be hard since we don't have gluten in the house and you have to be eating it to tell. We'll basically have to monitor her anytime she eats out or at someone's house or school. Not looking forward to it.
@kc295905 it's an immune reaction from ingestion. Basically the body destroys itself as it destroys gluten. There's over 100 different symptoms and only confirmed by a blood test and endoscopy. I didn't figure it out until I was 25 and was basically severely malnourished from malabsorption. She could also have the gene but never have it "turn on" and be fine and never have an issue.
Gluten free diets can be lacking in some nutrients so I have to consider that, but I also can't have what is basically poison in the house either. We chose our pediatrician because she did an allergy fellowship so hopefully she can be a little helpful when the time comes.

I think we're also going to do baby-led weaning starting with fruits and veggies, but hoping to wait until six months. My only concern is the iron. If we don't put her on formula at that point, we'll likely look at some kind of fortified oats or cereal, but preferably not the rice cereal that is empty calories.
Question - have any of you started giving your LO cereal? If so, how old us he/she and what signs did they give you, if any, that helped you make the decision to start?
We had our 4 month appointment this morning. The pedi gave the go ahead to start cereal. It would be worth asking about.
