I really bothers me your boss said something to you about this.
I would have made some comment about "well, guess I should just work from home every day until the baby comes then."
I think she was mostly joking/poking fun at me.
But now it's in my head and I can't get it out. I keep picturing co-workers making disgusted faces at me as I waddle out the door leaking... ugh. I wish I could work from home, that would be amazing!
Well that's better at least. I was picturing it being a super serious inquiry.
Towards the end I kept a change of clothes, a towel, and a pad in a bag in my desk drawer just in case. If you have somewhere to put a little kit like that maybe it would make you feel better?

Definitely go to the game akraus2015 I am not a big hockey fan but once had incredible seats and it was SO fun (also turned out to be an epic game a year the bruins won the Stanley cup, so even extra worth it, ha). But yeah, easy to be enthralled in game and ignore person next to you. And I'd be bummed to miss out on great seats!

ourcrazynavylife my tailbone is killing me from my fall months ago. I never thought about yoga ball at the office! I might try that!
My tailbone is still in pain from slamming it on Christmas at my parents' house. Last time I hurt it this bad, it didn't feel right to sit for 6-10 months. :( I'm sad almost my entire pregnancy is going to be dealing with that.

I was trimming one of the trees in our backyard and it appears the tree won. Got a nice scratch down my arm that drew some blood. That's enough work for today.

Ugh sorry it sucks! I've never experienced pain like this! It went away for a couple months and now it's back with a vengeance and it bothers me when I sleep. I don't know why the pain came back!! Esp when I'm unable to take anything but stupid Tylenol.

So...I've been thinking about labor. I feel like I need to have a plan.
My house is about an hour away from the birthing center.
My office is 20ish minutes away from the birthing center, but about 45 minutes away from my house.
So if I were to go into labor at work, would I:
A) Drive 40 minutes home, plan to meet my husband there, get my hospital bag, drop the dog off, etc., and then drive 1 hour to the birthing center? (Is it safe to drive myself home while I'm in labor??)
or
B) Drive straight from the office to the birthing center, have my husband go home, get my stuff, drop the dog off, and then meet me at the birthing center a few hours after I get there?
I feel like this is an important plan to have because if I need to start keeping my hospital bag in my car at some point, I'd want to have it ready and just sitting in the backseat, right?

What does Pregnancy think??
If you go into labor at work, you will probably know that you've been in labor for a while and won't need to rush. So even if you're not at the point where the hospital would admit you, your contractions could be, say, 10 minutes apart and lasting for 30 seconds, and you could tell work, "Sorry, in labor, I'm going to take off." Then go labor at home where you'll be more comfortable and have your H meet you there.
If your water breaks at work or things progress really, really fast, call L&D at the hospital and they will tell you if you can drive yourself, if you should go straight there or if you have time to go home, etc.
I will be keeping my hospital bag in my car in case I go to work; my car is our family's primary car anyway, so it's what we'll be taking regardless.

I would keep my bag in my car starting at about 34ish weeks and go straight to the hospital.

In the back seat or trunk starting 34-35 weeks. That said, it depends on your labor on if you can drive. Once I hit active labor, there was no way in hell I could drive (I know the way by contractions progressed isn't super common though)
akraus2015, I think it also depends on how willing you are to leave work for a false alarm. My contractions started at 2-3 minutes apart and more or less stayed that way, they just got longer and stronger as labor progressed. For the first hour or two I probably could have driven (I took my dog on a walk around the block by myself) but by the time I was pretty sure it was the real deal I would not have wanted to drive.

If I could leave and drive home that would definitely be my preference.
Okay so it sounds like I should keep my bag in my car but also just kind of wait to see what happens.
Yup.
My first few hours of contractions were not too intense and 10 minutes apart. I drove myself to an OB appointment and home when it was over. With your distance situation, I would have had no problem driving myself home once I was in labor.
The contractions I was having by the time lunch time rolled around would have been more difficult to drive through. My commute is short so I probably would have done that ok, but I'm not sure I would have wanted or been able to do your drive by that point.
So yea, have your bag in your car just in case, but I wouldn't decide a plan of attack until you see what happens.
*preemptive poof because I can't follow directions today* -rama
ETA: PDQ, will probably poof details.
I would assume that she would get fined, but probably not get any assistance from the police, unfortunately.
I also don't know if that would be something you'd be compelled to report. Technically the kid isn't being [traditionally] abused, but since they're in danger, maybe yes?

Thats kind of what I figured. Unfortunately severity of danger can be somewhat relative in poverty situations. (Meaning she may have felt it was safer to make the choice she did rather than leave the babies at home alone or something.) I try my best to balance my judgement with what I think the outcome of a call will be. If she's going to get a fine she can't pay and still not be any better off, then calling doesn't really help anybody.
Can you loop in another reporter to get their opinion? (I technically am, but I work at a college, so I feel like the distinction is a little different.) If someone else knows the kid she picked up, maybe they can schedule some kind of private conference to get her some help or give her resources?

Thats a good idea. I saw it as I was leaving for the day and the staff is all gone already, but I may mention it to the principal on Monday so he can look out for the car.

MH is bringing me Chipotle and a shamrock shake for dinner! I am so excited it (almost) makes up for the terrible movie he picked for us to watch tonight (Warcraft).
