DS2's party is over and it was awesome. MIL is talking politics (and mine are the opposite - ugh). My Mom is eating crackers and DH is oblivious to all of it. I'm enjoying prosecco and Mean Girls until bed time.
DS is being a nutty kid. One minute he's sweet and funny and loving. The next minute he's having a crying, yelling fit. Then he's laughing while trying to stick his finger up his older sister's nose.
What the actual f? Oh yeah. Two years old. If he didn't call spaghetti "spa-Betty" and do a zillion other hilariously cute things, he might not survive to 3.

DD1 peed the bed at 5 and has pretty much been up ever since.i can't remember how long it has been she's last done that. Yawn. I am sleepy. Drinking coffee while she makes a frog cage out of paper. We are going to the pretend pet store to buy a frog for her and a starfish for her sister, evidently.
Nice weekend so far. We had dinner with my parents and brother last night, kids started gymnastics (their first extracurricular! Aww) and I only have 3 more loads of laundry to do.
Took both kids shopping last night for spring pictures, confirmation, 8th grade graduation, Easter clothes, so you can only imagine. They are both in an awkward stage. Kids clothes are too babyish, and Jrs are too big unless you can find extra small. Finally got them all lined out. Ds was super original in his wardrobe. A dark blue shirt with a light blue tie for confirmation, and a light blue shirt with a dark blue tie for graduation. At least he picked something
Plus, DS now wants to play football for high school. They condition 2 days a week after school, which would be great, but he is still at the grade school, so by some miracle, we need to find a way to get him there at 3:45. Working mom problems. I hate asking grandparents. Dhs parents barely leave the house for whatever reason and I already asked my mom and had to hear her speach on the dangers of football.

Can he get a ride with one of the other kids doing the same thing?

He is the only one from his school going out for the team, so we don't know anyone yet. We are going from a small private elementary school to the county high. I am hoping as we get into it, we can meet some others that may live out our way. This is what we get for living rural. I told Dh that life would be much easier if we moved to town, even though we would never do it.

WP question: Our vacation to Maui is quickly approaching and I don't feel prepared. We're not taking a car seat with us on the plane for the first time with DS. He's 36 inches and about 35 pounds (4 years old). The CARES harness says up to 44 pounds and 40 inches. Do we need a CARES harness or will the plane lap belt be enough?

supertrooper1, just the lap belt will be fine unless you're looking for something to keep him from wiggling and escaping. What are you doing at the other end for a car seat? We got a Baby Trend Yumi booster for travelling and we love it. It folds up and can fit in the overhead. I'm also dying to try the mifold.

It's cold-ish and rainy here so yesterday we went to a community center type place with the kids. They have a play area for babies, toddlers and preschool aged children with lots of wooden toys, dress up stuff etc. It's great.
They had a children's play at the end of the day so DD had a lot of fun. DS slept through the whole afternoon, only waking up once to nurse.
Today my SIL and BIL came over with my 6 month old niece and DD had lots of fun playing with her. She's much more interactive than DS who's only 6 weeks old.

I am now looking in to the correct travel seating for my 2.5 year old with the same measurements. My child is a beast!
liziz , my kid is small. He's always been in the 5% for everything. DH and I are both 5'6, so he doesn't have much of a chance to be too tall.
Mine is similar height and weight at 4 years old and he's also in the 5% for weight. FWIW, I took him to Asia a few months ago (19 hour flight) and just used the airplane seat belt.
supertrooper1, DD is almost 6 and just hit the 40lb mark. She still is in a 5 point harness and even if I wanted to switch her to seat belt high back booster she isn't tall enough to fit the strap right.
Summer is going to be interesting since most of the camps include rec swim at the public pool but she isn't tall enough to go in alone (43 inches) and won't be even close in a couple months unless she grows 3+ inches.
I'm 5'6" and DH is 6' she just has always measured on the petite side
Is this a FFC? I don't understand car seats for big kids or harnesses on planes. When they were little on intl flights we used the basinnette and after 2 the lap belt. I mean, if the plane goes down is that harness going to ... matter? It's not like in a car to me - pretty low collision risk and during turbulence they either slept or climbed on me anyway.

We use our convertible car seats when we fly because for a few reasons: 1. It keeps my kids contained. They don't feel the need to get up and down a million times because it's just like riding in a car. I know how they roll and they would not sit nicely if not buckled into their 5 point harnesses. 2. It's better than gate checking or checking the car seats. I got paranoid after reading about damage done to checked car seats. And we've always needed them at the other end. 3. I'm a crazy person and read a bunch of blogs that said the car seats help protect them if a plane gets into an accident while taxiing on the runway, which I guess is more common than a full on crash? I don't know, but combined with the other reasons, I went with it.

I went back and forth on this for my long trip to Asia. For US domestic flights, I would have brought my own car seat, mainly so that we had a car seat we could trust at our destination (I'm paranoid about renting car seats). Since it was such a long flight, I wanted my son to be comfortable since he would have to sleep on the plane. That was the main reason I opted to have him use the seat belt. My mom had a car seat for him when we got to our destination.
