We did some serious work this weekend! We (H) set up 1 raised bed, the soil is so rocky here, we could only get down around 3"... planted it full of veggies! Then did some herb containers:
LO was a very good helper, minus the part where she tried to drink from one of the containers a plant had been in (a planter is like a giant cup, right?). We plan on getting a lemon tree too, and maybe another fruit tree, the ground is just so weird here with the rocks. We also need to fix the front. This week I hope to clear out the weeds and dead stuff from there and then we can buy some flowers and such for the front!

We have cilantro, green onion, mint, lettuce, basil, oregano, eggplant, bell pepper, cherry tomatoes, strawberries, and Thai hot peppers growing in our yard.
H is the one who does the gardening. All I know is I like having the cilantro and green onion fresh for my padthai and mint for my mojitos lol.
We aren't anywhere close to being ready. We need to build our raised beds. We usually plant around mother's day here. There's still a possibility of freezing before then.
I want to start a garden at our new house, but I have no idea how to start... help?
So I just googled how to do raised beds, and plans for raised beds bc I've never had them before but they are necessary here bc it's the ground is so rocky... there is a lot of beginner how to's on the internet.
Look up what hardiness zone you are in and then you can see what plants are good for that zone and also when to plant.
Start small, it's easy to get overwhelmed. You can always add more!

jewel441, where are you that you can start so soon?
We won't be ready to even start planting until maybe April. The house came with a small raised bed and although MH is gung ho about putting up our 30+ additional feet of gardening beds, I just want to focus on the small bed for now. I need to see how the light and soil are for planting and what can grow well. I'm going to do just a few plants and see what happens. If I get good results I'll go crazy next year. At least I say that now.

We are in Austin. I feel like we are actually a little late! The beginning of the month probably would have been better this this year or even Feb considering how hot it's been! We could have done some lettuces and such if we had started earlier, but we'll do them in the fall/winter. I read the last frost date is 3/8, at but I am not sure I believe that, another source I found said feb 26 which sounds more reasonable to me but I am fairly certain it was in January

My garden would be ridiculous if I had that long of a growing season. Veggies for days!

I know I'm so excited! We moved last summer but had no furniture so had to focus on that first, so now we are tackling the yard! Our biggest problem is figuring out how to dig ourselves. The soil here is incredibly rocky, you can get like 3 inches down with a shovel, which was fine for the raised beds, but for digging new beds it's a problem. we think we need some kind of specialized tool, but aren't sure what, otherwise we will have to hire someone with a bobcat or something

Make a thread. A lot of people on TCF are from your region and should have some tips. It seems like a lot to rent a bobcat for such as small area.
ETA: I really hope this didn't come off as bitchy. I serious when I say you should make a thread on one of the more popular boards. There are so many other people who could give you great advice. I'm also curious as to what they suggest. I have no ideas myself.

It didn't not... our current game plan was to ask at Home Depot. I think there might be a Texas board here...
It produces 6 fruits from one tree! If it does well I'll get another.
That is insane! Science is awesome.
I am all about efficiency. I want ALL THE FRUIT but the trees take up a lot of space. I'm getting the itch to plant, but there is still so much snow on the ground.
