northmom14 that sounds horrible! There are quite a few resources for helping you deal with the mental recovery from a negative birth experience in the hypnobirthing world. (I'm not trying to push this on you or anyone else but it just really worked for me) I have read many birth stories about women who had very negative first birth experiences and went on to have very positive ones later.
Also, it seems like everyone is getting induced these days.
With DD I ended up having a ton of people in the room. My mom, a family friend, and then the doctor, two nurses, and a doctor in training. My exH wasn't there (away for military).
This time I plan for it to just be H. But since he will be away for the first two weeks of June my BFF will be here with me just in case. We shall see!
I also was induced. I think that played a huge role in my decision to eventually get an epidural. After 16 hours of intense labor I was ready to give up. The epidural (while it hurt like a bitch to get) helped my body get the rest it needed to prepare for the rest of labor and her birth. 21 hours of active labor... whew. I'm hoping history won't repeat itself!

I got an epidural with my first birth. It was probably a good thing. My son was born with a nuchal hand (hand on his face) causing a 3rd degree tear. I needed a lot of stitches.
The plan for delivery this time is DH and my doula. My mom was present last time and it made DH a little uncomfortable. She also got all butt hurt when I asked her to leave after DS was born so we could have some family time. I'm glad she'll be in charge of DS this year.
I'm planning on it being me and H. My BFF if she's able to come. That might hurt our moms feelings, but I was there for her first birth, and I plan to be for the 2nd. She's also a L&D nurse, so I would trust her to make sure everything is going smoothly.
morwen - your story about laboring in the tub sounds amazing. That's exactly what I want. (ETA: not so sure about delivering in the tub, but using the tub to get through contractions? Hell yeah! Sign me up!!)

This is what I plan to do, too. I can't deliver in the tub (they make you get out first), but I'm thinking it will be great for laboring.

Thanks! That's good to know. I'm definitely looking for resources to prepare for this birth. They found an abnormality on the last ultrasound with DS so had to induce 1.5 weeks early. No way to prepare for that. I'm hoping for a much more natural birth this time!
I tried laboring in a tub with DD but it was during the stretch of having the worst nurse ever and she just sat there next to the tub watching me and it was horrible and awkward and I hated the whole thing. Also with all the fluids that are constantly leaking out of you during labor - it kinda grossed me out.
My room was full of people while I labored, but just my mom and H stayed for pushing. I want them there again, and I'd like my MIL to be far far away, but there will be hurt feelings so I'm sure she'll be there with her ear pressed against the door while push again (literally).
Fun fact: she announced it was a girl before H walked out to tell everyone. She wanted us to be team green this time, so we found out and told everyone before she could. Suck MIL.
I'm going into this labor and delivery process with the same mind frame as the first...my goal is to have a baby and keep us both safe. My contractions were so intense by the time I got to my L&D room, that the nurses had tears in their eyes. I had no break between them and they later told me had I been on a pit drip, they would have turned it down. They were all relieved I agreed to an epi. I was there to win no awards. I will say I labored for about 4 hours at home in the tub and it really helped. I learned a lot last time. I'll keep my end goal the same, but I don't want people yelling "push, push, push" at me. It made me angry. I need them to keep my push count the same, the OB kept changing it up and I ended up having an asthma exacerbation, which they didn't acknowledge...so frustrating. I'm also going to ask that the peds drs wait out in the hall. I work with them and it was so awkward and I felt even more uncomfortable. It'll be just H and me. Although, here's hoping I go into labor when daycare is open, with enough time for my Mom to drive down before they close. Otherwise, not sure what we'll do with A.
My water broke before I ever had a contraction, they put me on pit as soon as I got the antibiotics for GBS. I put off the epi for several hours, and did some sort of IV pain medication first. I had always planned on the epi so I should have just gone for that. The IV stuff just made me loopy without doing anything for the pain. Labor was about 12 hours long and with the pit I had to be hooked up to so many things that I couldn't really move around much (baby's monitor would slip off if I moved at all). The epi allowed me to nap and relax before delivery.
My plan is to see how it goes and get the epi whenever I'm ready.
babywisher just dh in the room during pushing at least. Before that, I don't mind my family and in laws but when things get serious I don't like distractions. It was weird enough to me to know that they were all standing in the hallway last time!

I found a used stroller on ebay for a great price, but I've never ebay'd before so I'm nervous. $350 for a like new stroller that retails for $530? I'm so tempted to hit the buy now button.
Planning on a long lunch at BBB to play to make sure it's love.
My original plan was to try to labor as long as possible without meds, but I was open to getting an epi. Since my water broke with no contractions and I was not dilated or anything, they started cervdil. I hadn't been tested for abs so I got hooked up to an IV with the antibiotics. I tried to get some sleep, but it wasn't easy because once my contractions started they were one top of one another with no break at all. I got the epi and it was magical. I was able to sleep for a couple hours and actually didn't even feel anything while pushing. It was probably 8 hours total.
I'm a little nervous this time because we're taking a lot of precautions so I go to at least 37 weeks. I have a feeling my labor is going to be completely different this time and for some reason it's stressing me out. DS was 5 lbs 4 oz at 34 weeks. 😳. But my plan is to get the baby out safely and get an epi if I need it.

I had to cover for our usual person tonight at work and I am regretting my dinner choice. I wasn't hungry when I packed, so I grabbed crackers and nutella and pretzels and hummus. While delicious, I am starving and I still have 4 hours left. Haaaalllllppppppppp
bepandnick I know I should know this, but I guess I forgot. Why did you have ds at 34 weeks?
He just decided he was ready. My water broke in the middle of the night and I had to have him within 24 hours. They did a bunch of tests but never figured out why.

Buying props for maternity photos...yay!! I'm going to try and hold out another 6 weeks or so, but I don't want to be huge and uncomfortable when I get them done. I'm finally starting to like how my pregnant body looks.
