I had another good week last week with working out. Six days out of seven, as planned, and I'll shoot for the same this week. Just got done today with an upper body day and if my nanny shows up for work tomorrow I may try to get out to Orangetheory as well.
I go back to work 3 weeks from Thursday so I want to make the most of this time right now. I haven't seen the scale move down at all in like 6 weeks but I'm trying hard not to let that wreck my motivation.
I will be taking measurements on Wednesday. The increase in my strength and stamina is remarkable, and I'm proud of my progress, but it really would be nice to see some empirical evidence of it.

Same stuff as my post from Saturday. We've been doing pretty well since we got back from vacation. Bought lots of healthy snacks and meals at the store. I'm planning to try a class at the rec center and maybe join a friend at a barre class. I need more indoor activities since it's going to get too hot to run outside soon.
Eta: Question for anyone who might know. My ankles have been killing me. Is this a shoe issue? I have aesics running shoes so I'm not running with like regular shoes or something. They have an ankle lock feature, arch support, gel heel cushioning, etc. But what else would make my ankles hurt like that? The shoes are about 2 years old, but don't have more than 75 miles on them.
I saw these this morning and laughed. Thought I'd share.
ClassyMrsA where does it hurt on your ankle? During what activities does it hurt? How do you have them laced? Post a pic if you can.
My ankle hurts from the sides around the back in a U shape. The pain also goes up into my calf about 1/3 of the way up from my ankle. It's worse on the right. It mostly hurts when running when my foot strikes the ground. After my run on Saturday it hurts just walking around. Basically any pressure on it hurts right now. I can even feel mild pain radiating into my big toe resting my foot on the couch on the right foot.
Also, I was pushing the stroller with Lillian in it on Saturday if that makes a difference. My run last Monday I did alone and did not notice the ankle pain until after but it was very mild.
We joined the Y yesterday! L is almost 4 months and will be allowed in child watch there so I'm excited about it! Zumba in class is way more fun than Zumba at home with a DVD! I'm excited to get to do this.
I've got to get my butt in gear eating/tracking wise! You know what I found interesting about my mom? She'd make me a plate of food using our big dinner plates, but she'd make herself a plate using our salad small plates!?! I don't think she did it on purpose but I find it's easier to eat more when proper portions look small because of the portion to plate size!
danib, DH and I are competitive but finding even ground is hard! We did great when we did the Insanity challenge! I hope YH and you stick it out! dashook, I'd love just 1 day of working out! I'm struggling with "me time" and the only way I get it is in the shower or when I'm making a quick dash to the store! I've always found that when the scale doesn't budge, is when I'm losing the most inches! Make sure your keeping track of that as well!
ClassyMrsA, I was taught in my Zumba instructor class, sneakers age (even without use), they break down and like oil in your car should be replaced every so many miles or every 6-8 months.

Took a picture of myself. I'm proud of my body. I've put it through hell in these past two years and it still puts up with me. I'm motivated now more than ever.
sophiegrace I read up on it and I can do the heel rise that's supposedly diagnostic without pain. It feels very ankle centric with radiating pain. My husband thinks it's shin splints. I think it's too low and far back.
cheshie6 I've never heard that except for people who run/exercise a lot. What I've read suggests that yes shoes degrade naturally over time, but it takes years for them to break down to the point of needing to be replaced from that process. It seems to depend a lot on the shoe, what surface you're using them on, and what you're using them for. On the low end I've read about 300 miles, on the high end closer to 600. DH replaces his shoes every 3-6 months, but he runs probably 12 miles a week on average. In any case, I did get a new pair of running shoes that should be here tomorrow. Mostly because I am turning my ASICS into my every day shoes since my old every day shoes are worn out.

ClassyMrsA, I'll be naughty and tell my husband I'm hurting where you described and let you know what he says. Your H may be right..shin splints is just a nickname for anterior tibial tendonitis and it's all connected. Anti inflammatories, stretching, and massage are the best fixes. It's much better if someone else does the massage...hint hint

Oh! Also ClassyMrsA, did you wear those during pregnancy at all? While you had any swelling? The weight and foot size fluctuation can mess up the insole and support of the shoe. A few of mine can only be worn for casual wear and not exercise because of that.
sophiegrace I probably wore them more than I think I did. But not all the time. I wore flip flops or my walking shoes most of the time. Too hard to bend down and tie my running shoes!

Hahah!! Oh my gosh, I actually forgot about that struggle. Nothing like having to take multiple breaks to catch your breathe while putting your shoes on.

Right? It feels like so long ago. Like a different life almost. Lillian was dozing on my stomach yesterday and I suddenly realized that I couldn't do that while I was pregnant. It all becomes a memory so fast. I don't miss it, but I miss something?

I've been avoiding this thread lately but I had a major holy crap moment when I got my new license. The difference between the old and new is shocking. Yes it was 8 years but that's not a good excuse.
Food-wise I think I'm doing ok. It could be better of course but I'm at least not eating out all the time like before. This week we have some healthy dinners planned and I've been eating a good breakfast and snacks. I just hope going back to work doesn't make us lazy. It's going to be a huge adjustment.
My biggest issue is still exercise. I try to do squats or other things around the house but it's not nearly enough. I just really dislike exercising. I'd rather go out for walks or hikes which I've been doing with the nice weather. Hopefully I can keep that up. Again I worry about how it's going to be next week when he goes to bed when we would normally take our walk. The only good thing about work is that I do walk a lot there.
Ok, sorry it's taken me so long to come back to comment ClassyMrsA So it could be a tendinitis like your H and sophiegrace have described. Anterior or posterior tib or even Achilles. Is the pain on the sides of your leg, closer to your shin bone, or closer to the back? Or is it near the protruding bumps on either side, or right in the crease at the front?
Depending where exactly the discomfort is, it could actually be a malalignment of the ankle bones. (Talocrural joint). This isn't as serious as it sounds if it is this.
If your standing, can you bend down on that leg while keeping your heel on the floor? Does that feel tight in your calf or your actual ankle?
Is it tender to push anywhere? Or only when your running?
Tomorrow is measuement day. I did Orangetheory today and I feel so good right now, but I still am really hoping to see *some* change in the numbers. Wish me luck.

hangry The pain starts on the outside right at the bump on my ankle. From there, it wraps around toward the back and eventually to the bump on the inside and up the back of my ankle into my calf. This is on both sides, but worse on the right. I also have pain on the big toe side of the bottom of my foot into about the center when walking/getting up in the morning.

Yes. It feels tight in my calf. My ankle feels fine.
Is it tender to push anywhere? Or only when your running?
Not tender to the touch. At first it only hurt when running. This week, it's also hurt a bit when walking and both ankles and my feet feel stiff and uncomfortable when I get up from sitting for a while or in the morning.
Thanks so much for helping me try to figure out what's going on!!
I can't find my March 8th measurements anywhere. They were written on a sticky note stuck to my closet door and so the only possible explanation is that the note somehow got unstuck and floated down into my garbage can and got thrown out. Like wtf are the odds?
So I took measurements today but have nothing to compare them to so that's worthless. Let's see...the only one I remember is my chest measurement, and that has gone down. Whoop dee doo, my chest got smaller. Just what every woman wants.
Also the scale is of course up. I'm not a happy camper today.
dashook maybe you're gaining muscle which would explain the higher number on the scale? Do you have any clothes you can use as a comparison? Something you know was snug before that you could try today?
Not really 😕 I've just been hiding in leggings and sweatpants for months. I have one pair of pre-preg jeans that I can close but look like shit in because of all the extra skin and flab. That was the case 2 weeks ago and is still the case today.

I'm really sorry dashook. I've typed a dozen responses, but I know right now hair pats are nice, but results are what you really want. I'm sad and frustrated for you. I want everyone on this board to feel awesome about themselves every day of the week.
Oh man dashook. I know how much you were looking forward to these number comparisons. Sorry lady. You should still be proud of the commitment and determination you've shown. And there is no doubt that your body is healthier, no matter what those numbers said or didn't say.
ClassyMrsA Ok, the pain you describe under you're foot and in the morning is most definitely plantar fasciitis. You could starts with calf stretches. Ideally before you even get out of bed with a towel. But also in standing with knee bent and knee straight. Ice massages (with ice cubes or ice frozen in a Dixie cup that you can peel away) on the archnof your foot and up to the underside of the heel. If it doesn't get better you could order a PF night splint.
Do you wear orthotics? How old are they?
How did you choose your current running shoes? Have you been to a running specialty store and been assessed?
The original pain could possibly be related to PF, but it doesn't sound like the same pain. One pain could cause the other because your gait changed with an original pain. Did that come out clearly?
hangry I guessed at the plantar fasciitis. I've had it before. I'll try the stretches. I did some tonight and holy cow my right leg is tight! Gotta work on that. No orthotics. My shoes have the memory foam inside. I had my gait assessed at some point and have been getting shoes with the features suggested to me since. Perhaps I should go again.
I gotcha. I explained it to dh and he said that made sense. For now, I'm going to stretch and rest my feet. I don't have another race until April 1 and I can walk that if need be.

that all sounds good. Hopefully just some stretching will help the pain. Let me know how it goes! In overly invested in your foot right now.
I ran this morning without stopping for 1.2 miles! That's huge for me. I usually have to walk a bit after about .5 a mile. I ran at a slightly slower pace than usual so I think that helped. I'm also discovering what a mental game running is! I'm on track to run a full 5k in around 35 minutes. That's my year end goal.
