I have a med check with my doctor this morning for my anxiety meds. I am taking both girls with me. Then we'll go to the library after. I also have to drop off the paper work to our towns newspaper. I am signing on to be a freelance reporter/photographer and hoping my first story goes in the paper soon.
I think I'm ready to start Lil P on baby food. She'll be 5 months on Friday. Did you all go straight to fruit and veggies and skip cereal? Refresh my memory please.

penguin129, GL at the doc today. Per our pedi's recommendation, we're doing a month of veggies before starting on fruit and completely skipping cereal. But we may be doing some rice just cause it's such a large part of our culture.
Persian new year went great with the family yesterday. DS was a delighted little guy with all the attention and never fussed despite all the strangers. The little cousins loved him and he had his first meal to boot (butternut squash) which he loved. Will try to share some pics in the private thread later.
Today is taking him to see his great-great-aunt and swinging by my mom's work so she can be a proud grandma and show him off. Then a childhood friend is bringing over his kids to dinner tonight - haven't seen him in 10 years.

I was late to work because I was trying to get the two littlest kiddos ready for picture day at the daycare. Normally I dress DD in her clothes for daycare the night before, but I didn't want to chance her leaking out of her diaper or spitting up on her dress for today. I had to fix DS2's hair multiple times because he kept messing it up. It was utter chaos this morning.
I feel AWFUL. When I was home yesterday, I felt like something was maybe coming on...my ears were bothering me and my throat a little as well. This morning my throat hurts more and my ears, and I just feel so achy. No fever though. Depending on how the day goes I may leave work early and go rest. I honestly don't know what this might be, but it's definitely making me feel like crap.

Skipping cereal over here. Both my boys hated it and refused to eat it so I figured I won't bother. We attempted sweet potatoes over the weekend and daycare told me yesterday she ate about half a jar. We are starting with sweet potatoes, peas, and carrots. I think she has only had sweet potatoes so far though.

DS woke up at 415 but thankfully got him back down shortly after 5. Didn't want my day to start at 4 two days in a row.
Went out for a massage last night. So needed physically and mentally. DS cried a lot for DH. Oh well mama's gotta get out.
Last swimming class this morning for DD. We were going to meet friends at a trampoline place this morning but they just cancelled as her little guy had an asthma attack last night... probably best not to be jumping around for him. I already told DD we'd go, so might just take her alone. She doesn't like changes of plans, which is why I often don't tell her things ahead of time.
We have gone through all the main veggies, sweet potatoes, carrots, peas, green beans, regular potatoes, cauliflower (not a fan). She's a HUGE fan of sweet potatoes and carrots. We made a ton of baby food last weekend so she's good to go. We started peaches last night. Ped wanted us to have a run through of most fruits and veggies by her 6 month appointment. I can tell over the last week or so that her tongue movements have changed to move the food back instead of out like when we first started. Less mess, and less food coming back out. She growls if you don't shovel it in fast enough and she knows when its dinner time. I give her a bottle before I start making our dinner, she sits in her high chair and plays with toys while we eat and clean up, then she knows it time for her dinner. Routine works well for her.
O looked super interested in our food the other night so I gave her a tiny taste of spaghetti sauce. She gagged until she threw up some phlegm. I love the idea of BLW but don't know if I could handle all the gagging.
So far she's tried sweet potatoes, peas, squash and avocado. Not really interested in any. They add just enough cereal to her milk at daycare to be able to spoon feed her since she still won't take a bottle.
penguin129 - Our pedi recommended skipping cereals. She said they have no nutritional value and usually just end up causing constipation. We started with some veggies and then introduced fruit. The only thing he doesn't like is peas, but DD1 was the same way. I just mixed them in with other stuff and slowly started adding more and more peas until she would eat them plain. Eating food is I'm pretty sure DS's favorite thing to do. He says "mmmm" with each bite and will even do that when he watching us eat. It's so damn cute.
DS STTN again last night, but I woke up around 2am for the 2nd night in a row and had trouble falling back asleep. I have had this issue, on and off (but mostly on), for years. I don't know what my problem is. It is pretty rare that I completely sleep through until morning. It sucks.
We are having a bunch of trees removed from our backyard today. We hired the guy last summer and he gave us an amazing quote for the amount of trees he's removing. There are a couple of very large oak trees and a bunch of little, ugly pine trees. He kept rescheduling and pushing us out, probably because of the low quote he gave us so that he could just do it during their slow season. Whatever - at least it's getting done. The crew was there with all their equipment when I left for work. Our lawn is going to be destroyed, but at least we can fix it and reseed first thing this spring.
I'm excited for all our home projects! As soon as it gets warm enough, we're getting our house repainted and then we will be putting up a new fence in our backyard - a 6-foot vinyl one that our dog Maddy can't climb over, which she currently does with the chainlink. I can't wait to be able to let my dogs outside without having to watch her every second to make sure she doesn't go over the fence to chase a squirrel or to go visit people she sees in a different yard. And the white fence will look so much nicer than the mismatched fencing we currently have in our yard (only the front sections are ours; the rest of the fencing belongs to our neighbors). And it will be more private, especially for when we get a pool, which we are hoping to do in the next couple of years.

penguin129, our pedi told us at 4 months we could start rice cereal, then move on to oatmeal and then veggies. We skipped cereal with N and went to oatmeal, which he wasn't crazy about. G liked the oatmeal, but we've only given it to him once. We started N with sweet potatoes and butternut squash at 5 months old, and he loved them. I have to get some at the store this weekend so we can cook them up for him. G sits in his highchair with toys while we eat now, and he loves it.
I had a dentist appointment this morning, and the dentist referred me to an oral surgeon for my wisdom teeth. I'm not thrilled about it, but I really should have had them removed in high school. So now my mouth is sore from all the scraping and cleaning, and I probably need to call the oral surgeon to set up a consultation. I'm at work, and MH is taking the boys to the barber shop so MH and N can get haircuts, and then they're going to the playground. At least everyone woke up in good moods today.
Today is my day off! It feels random (and it is) to have worked yesterday, be off today, and then work the rest of the week. It is what it is, I suppose. I was off over the weekend, but DH was on call, so it was just me wrangling the kids. My sister brought her kids over Saturday, so that was nice.
We haven't started purées with DS2 yet, but + whatever to skipping cereal and feeding veggies for a good bit before adding fruits. DS1 hated cereal and I really don't see the point of even trying it with 2.0. I think I'll probably start them in the next week or so. He'll be 5.5 months old by then and does seem to be very interested in watching us eat lately. He also takes his Prilosec waaaay better than he ever has.
I had so many things on my to do list for today and have accomplished only one of them. I did, however, take an hour nap. *shrugs* I should really get some routine house cleaning done though. Joy to the world.
Dd1 had preschool so I got some house chores done. I'm in nap/sleep hell with dd2. 30 minutes naps all day long. Up so many time overnight. I obviously don't want to do any sleep training because she was diagnosed with the flu and ear infection last week. So I'm in a waiting period of exhaustion. I think we'll go outside a little later.
DH just showed up with his boss. We're thinking about putting a 2nd story on our house before the baby arrives. So his boss is going to do an estimate for us.
H woke up twice last night before I wake up and feed him in the morning. That means he was up at midnight and again at 2:45 am. I can't say no to a cuddle and quick nursing session when those teeth are just about through. Plus, I love baby cuddles and he's my last baby.
Motivated over here - went to the gym at lunch for a HIIT workout and ate a healthy lunch. But I have wine and MOCHA JOE-JOES. If you all have a Trader Joe's near you, stop what you are doing and go buy 2 boxes. They taste like chocolate covered coffee beans. Oh. My. God. You all must try them.
We haven't done any solids yet. I'm feeling incredibly lazy and would prefer to nurse him forever. We will do BLW, but I'm in no hurry to start. I'd like him to be able to sit up (unassisted) before we start. I love BLW. That reminds me that I need to get some paperwork for school for BLW. We are always the first to do this and I'm pretty sure I'm going to get some crazy looks from his teachers just like I got two years ago with E's teachers. We'll probably do the roasted sweet potato fingers with chili powder and cinnamon as a first food. I'm going to do some peanut butter and banana in oatmeal soonish too for breakfast. I want to start exposing him to all the foods. Our pedi was on-board with all of that. By E's first birthday, she was eating steamers (yes, clams), lobster, and pesto.
DH stopped home at lunch to check on the dogs and see how the tree removal is going. He sent me a picture and I admit, I'm a little anxious about how bare it looks already and it's only about half done. I know it will make our yard better and more usable, and more sunny, and safer (the big trees are starting to drop huge branches during storms), but it's definitely going to take some getting used to. the trees didn't exactly block our view into our neighbor's yard, but I feel like we're so exposed to each other now, even with the stockade fence.
penguin129 I'm sure I missed it since I've only been checking in once a week, but what is your first paper about?
It is about the Pan Florida Challenge. Cyclists ride 180 miles from Naples to Ft. Pierce to raise money for meals for students to be sent home on the weekends. I saw a group of cyclists after yoga and had to chase it down. I just needed to know what was going on. I told Mr. P and went home to pick him and Lil P up. He got the pictures and I wrote the story. Here's the website Pan Florida Challenge
It was the first time I wrote something for a Newspaper since writing on my middle schools newspaper in 1999 (so long ago!). I talked to the editor today when I dropped off my freelance paperwork and he told me he really liked the story and it should run next week.
Our towns paper only goes out once a week on Thursday.

I feel worse. I tried to lay down in my car over my lunch break and I have chills and the aches are worse and my throat is worse. It's just odd b/c I am pretty sure I still don't have a fever. I took some more Tylenol but it hasn't kicked in yet. I am so ready to go home. Thank God DH is home tonight to help out with the kids. I will probably be quarantining myself and letting him handle them as much as possible. I really don't want them to get sick either.

You can't make up the mom life. It's a private reality show. Feel better. Sounds kinda flu ish? Or strep? Did you go to the doc?
jcrewgirl so blw: Can I give mushy foods or that's a choking hazard? How do I figure out the difference? How long does it take the baby to actually eat the food? I imagine getting frustrated that the baby can't pick it up or get it in his mouth for a while.

ksyknelvr73, oh no! I do hope your husband can give you a break tonight so you can rest up. Can't imagine feeling like that and having to work. Feel better!

I really hope it's not the flu....I got my shot, I know that doesn't mean I totally prevented it but I think the shot was pretty effective this year (so I've heard anyway). It feels a lot like strep and I wouldn't doubt it with how much it goes around in my house - we think DS2 is a carrier and I'm planning to talk to his pedi about how we're supposed to handle it at his 3 year well visit in May. I may go to urgent care tonight or do doctor on demand. I can't handle this with it getting worse.

I just got alerts on my phone that we have severe thunderstorm and tornado watches until 11pm. It hasn't started raining yet but it's supposed to later in the evening. Fantastic.

+1 to this jcrewgirl. I didn't do BLW with DS, but I want to try it with DD. I'm sure google can help, but did you find any websites/books that you really liked for guidance?

You can give "mushy food". I steam or roast veggies/fruits until it would smash between your index and thumb if you were squishing it. All the foods in the beginning should be cut into long strips so G can grab it, pick it up, and attempt to put in his mouth. I would say the first few weeks to a month is completely non-nutritional. It's really about getting G used to texture, flavors, and the chewing movements. Make sure you are feeding him when he isn't hungry. If you try and give him solid food at his normal nursing/bottle session, he'll throw a fit out of frustration. I would recommend nursing first, then trying some solid food.
Here are a few websites that are somewhat helpful, but I HIGHLY recommend buying the BLW Cookbook. The first few chapters sums up the book, plus safety tips. The other part of the book has lots of recipes that you can make for the family. I love that I don't have to make "special" meals for the kids. They eat what we eat which also means we HAVE TO eat healthy. Instead of carryout pizza, we make the pizza at home. I can't go heavy on the salt, etc. when cooking.
