Hi guys! It's been forever since I checked in. We had an epic week. DH and I both confirmed we can keep our jobs and relocate to MN- he will work from home and I'll work out of our office there. Then, we sold our house in 12 hrs before it even officially listed, for full asking price. We close May 26th so IT'S FINALLY REAL!
We are heading home next weekend to tour homes and hopefully finalize a home to offer on. It's a whirlwind but we are so so happy!
whatsit, I hope your day went well. I hope G feels better too.
Thanks He didn't really nap this afternoon and was cranky all day, but he fell asleep on our walk and we managed to transfer him into bed. It was a bit early for him but I'm hoping he makes it through the night and catches up on sleep.

How can I get my super stubborn child to use utensils? I've been offering at every meal and she wants nothing to do with them. If I try and help her, end of the world. So I just demonstrate with her food and she will try once, throw it, and use her hands. Or the other night she did it, then spit the food back out, and picked it up with her hand and ate it.

I wouldn't try to force it. I would just encourage it and let her see everyone else using them.

younglove316 I'm glad we're not the only one not using utensils. We occasionally give one to try but same thing- he ends up using his fingers. I should be better about offering forks.

We are rarely using utensils and if she does, it's not for the whole meal

younglove316, we practiced with spoons last week for the first time in months. We offer forks at some meals, usually dinner. Bowls and plates are really fun to throw, so those are out. I'm more concerned with WHAT they eat than HOW these days. They're still exploring texture and developing the fine motor skills to use them properly, I'm not about to add that frustration to mealtimes!

younglove316, utensils still end up on the floor every meal here, so I'm just here to commiserate. I'd say he uses them about 20% of the time (and that includes putting food on the fork to take it off with his other hand and then put it in his mouth with his fingers).
By the way, my almost-five year old still doesn't use a fork sometimes even though it's placed next to her plate. The other day, she was gobbling up her steamed kale with her fingers. Kind of weird...but whatever, she was eating her vegetables.

Thank you for the utensil replies ladies! I couldn't remember when DD1 started, it just felt like it was by now but probably not. I will just keep offering without forcing anything and see what happens.

Ugh I wish DD2 DIDN'T NEEEEED to use utensils. She is determined and as a result I spend most of her meal putting one piece of food on her fork at a time and setting it down again so she can put it in her mouth. And repeat. If we don't give her a fork she just throws her food on the floor piece by piece. Then once she's full it becomes a drumstick. She's getting 10% better at it which makes it cute for a bit but then she gets frustrated and it becomes our job.

We use two forks so I can load one while they eat with the other.
Hope you ladies all had a great week! Any fun plans for the weekend?!
I'm checking out a kids consignment sale today and then tomorrow we are having dinner with my in laws. Other than that just laundry and cleaning up the house
