Sorry if it's been asked too much, but must haves for a registry? Name brand/specific recommendations appreciated ☺
I picked most brands from the Baby Bargains book. If you don't have one, get it! It makes registering so easy. The research for every baby item is done for you in one book!
Here are my registry must-haves:
-Car seat: we just registered for the infant one. It is so easy to get baby in and out of the car when sleeping and take them to restaurants and such. We didn't love ours so I will hold off on the recommendation. This also bought me time to research the convertible for when they are bigger and helped me learn what I liked and disliked in a car seat. They are in the convertible longer so I wanted it to be perfect!
-breastfeeding pillow if you plan to breastfeed (I love my brestfriend for when DD was little and boppy for later and sitting support)
- halo swaddle sacks (3)
- baby mittens
-stroller system your infant seat can click in to.
-pack n play (we got one with bassinet insert and used as bassinet). We used rock n play first then transitioned to PNP so maybe plan to get a rnp if you have a baby with reflux that hates flat surfaces.
* I didn't register for clothes, blankets, or baby towels/wash cloths. I got so many as gifts. We didn't use baby towels for long as they are tiny. We use regular towels. I like baby wash cloths though!
*I only registered for size N-2 diapers because I wasn't sure what kind I would want. You can exchange them if you register and hate them later. I liked huggies snuggles for N-1 and Pampers swaddlers 2-4.
*babies are super bottle picky. I recommend buying one then buying more when you confirm baby likes it. We bought the set and DD hated the bottles. So much wasted money!

westiemom your list is amazing thank you! What size sleep sack? Newborn or small?
I would get 3 small for sure and maybe 1 newborn just in case you have a peanut like me. I ended up needing 3 newborn because we lived in it for a while.

I also recommend the Wonder Weeks Book and App and the book Healthy Sleep Habits Happy Child (read before birth if possible). A FB convo reminded me of this! And of course, the Happiest Baby on the Block DVD!

I have a Baby K'Tan but I think I want some other types of slings too. Any recommendations?
You can never go wrong with a ring sling. I have a Maya wrap one that Superman still uses and he is over 1. I do recommend getting a Ergo or Tula for when baby is older. It will save you, and be more comfortable for long term wearing than the RS or K'tan. I loved having the RS for fast wearing around the house for fussy days, major sanity and life saver. There is a baby wearing on a budget fb group where everything is$100 or less. I got my RS from there and it had never been used!

I agree that ring slings great. I also have a maya wrap I got om a friend that I really like. Moby wraps are also popular for the newborn stage. I liked having ring sling and a ssc (beco gemini) for convenience.

The Bjorn (the new one) is awesome. It is supported by your hips, so it's way easier for longer walks and once you have a heavier baby. We have done mountain hikes and 12m walks in ours.
I really don't want to go to any classes in person, for a few reasons. So, anyone have tips for a book or two they read on infant care that they liked? I babysat extensively from about 13 through college for a lot of babies so I'm pretty comfortable with them, however there's always more to know!

I might be on the minority, but I could never get the hang of the wrap type carriers. I do love my Lille Baby Complete that I have though. Both MH and I can use it. We started using it around 2ish months and are still using it at 14 months.

The only class I ever went to was the infant CPR class. Everything else I learned through the boards. I did have What to Expect When Youre Expecting and What to Expect in the 1st Year, but I liked the first hand knowledge shared here more than reading a book. The various check ins on SAIF were really helpful too.

Even if you aren't a class person I would still highly recommend getting a tour of where you would be delivering ahead of time. That is the main reason we signed up for the class. If we hadn't got the tour I never would have known where to go or some of the other particulars about the hospital.

I'm glad to hear this, as this is the carrier we registered for an received. Do you think we could start sooner than 2ish months, or do you feel that was the perfect age to start?
I think you could use it sooner, just roll a blanket or something like that for under the baby's butt to get them positioned right (I think there is a video if you look online). I just didn't use it before then because he wouldn't tolerate it. Two months was when he finally stopped screaming the second I put him in it.

Alright, so I know that not everyone has their water break "Hollywood style" or even at all. Those of you that had more of a trickle effect, how'd you know it was your water and you weren't just peeing a tiny bit for the millionth time?
Also, anybody find that they suddenly were getting monster headaches right at the end?
So I woke up in the motn and thought I had to pee, but when I stood up it started to come out and I thought it might be my water. Went to the bathroom and when it kept coming after I peed, I knew for sure. I was so glad to have bought some giant pads. I wouldn't say it was gushing, but definitely more than a trickle. And everything happened pretty quickly after that, so if your water does break get yourself ready and off to the hospital asap.
Basically, you'll know. Trust your body. Trust your instinct. You've got this!
Just today, he also drove to the next town to pick up a second used diaper genie so we'd have one downstairs too.
I'll +1 this as a good idea.
It felt like overkill at first, but we actually had 3 (one regular, a medium size, and then a small one that came as a second in one of those packages). We kept the small one in our bedroom for the NB days, the big one in her room, and the medium one downstairs by her PnP for diaper changes.
TT is 17mo old and we *still* use 2 of the 3. It's just so much easier to toss diapers in the genie and empty it when full vs. tossing in the trash or taking outside right away. Plus my dog is an asshole sometimes, and would consider a diaper in the trash can to be the most exciting of challenges to take on while we are gone for the day.
Also throwing it out there, we bought the box of refills that says "a years supply" on it. 3 genies, 2 of which are/have been simultaneously in use, and 17mo later and we still haven't had to buy any more. Just in case anyone is weighing that factor..

So, my water breaking was more like a tiny trickle, and even then I wasn't sure. I had a tiny bit more fluid an hour later that confirmed it for me. That was at 10:30PM. I had very mild, infrequent contractions during the night, so we arrived at the hospital at 7AM the next morning for a pitocin induction. I still had what I would call a slow leak at that point. I didn't get a big gush of fluid until I started having much more intense contractions. Probably a bit TMI, but the amniotic fluid had a slightly sweet odor to it, which I was told is common. When in doubt, call your OB/midwife. Better to be checked out.

I've heard the rock n play is good. Bit there's so many. $59.99 for regular or 79.99 with vibration or 99.99 with smart connect. Ahh which one
LOL, gurl. Whichever one you get, make sure it is an auto rock n play. I don't know if ours vibrated? Don't curr. Our bouncer thingy did that. In the MOTN, all that mattered was that this thing rocked. With the push of a button. So I didn't have to do shit. Like a GD magician in the middle of the night. Mark my words: YOU WANT THE ONE THAT ROCKS ALL BY ITSELF. It's worth whatever money you need to spend, and much cheaper than the cost to hire someone to come over to your house between the hours of 1 and 3am to rock your kid .. which you will seriously consider at least once during the NB stage.
+1 to getting the auto rocker. I wish we had. Ours vibrated, but CL wanted all rocking, all the time. It was exhausting.

I always have registry questions so this is great. I'm looking at this post and knowing I had a question I was dying to ask and I can't remember for the life of me.
But here are some other questions: -Any recommendations on maternity swimsuits? -Any recommendations for sleeping nursing bras? -Did you sleep with your baby in your room or did they sleep in their own room initially? If in your room, what did they sleep in? (Links or brand names appreciated) -

I've been wearing a nursing cami since day 1. I like having my stomach covered when I nurse.
M has been in our room since we brought him home. I decided to attach his cheap IKEA crib to the side of our bed instead of buying a separate co sleeper. He pretty much sleeps in our bed every night, but I think once he's older he will sleep more on the crib side.

Mine broke MOTN. I woke up because I thought I had peed the bed or something. When I got up, I had fluid leaking and it kind of leaked with every movement I made. I knew at that point I wasn't peeing myself and the only other logical option was that it was my water breaking.
Unsolicited advice: have overnight pads on hand. Even with the trickling, a lot of fluid leaked and it would have been a huge mess without the pad.
