I'm going to start looking for a new vacuum I think. The one I have now is an Eureka upright with a bag. We got it at our local hardware store probably over 2 years ago. I loved it in the beginning. Lately, things have been breaking on it and it seems to be loosing suction. Before that, we had a dyson pet vacuum. I think it was one of the early models, and I liked it well enough in the beginning, but the canister was hard to clean and I was stopping every room to empty the damn thing.
So, any particular one you absolutely love? We have carpet and laminate floors and pets. I vacuum just about every other day. I prefer upright vacuums and at this point I'm not sure it matters if it is bag less or canister. I'd also like to have built in attachments for furniture and stuff.
We love our shark rotator professional. It's an upright, but lifts off the base so you can carry or lift it for stairs or to reach high up. The warranty is goo too, we found out. We've had ours about 3 years and the internal switch that control the roller broke. They sent us a whole new bottom piece. Not all of the attachments fit on board.

Roomba. It's changed my life. We also have a dyson stick- but the battery life is so short that wouldn't be the best primary vacuum (but great for stairs, cars, etc.).
I bought the Dyson Animal 2 during their Black Friday sales. It came with three attachments and I was able to choose another 3 free attachments as part of their Black Friday deal.
Pros 1. I bought it for a steal. I think I paid $299 for all of it. 2. Holy suction - I CANNOT believe how much pet hair came out of my area rug. I was disgusted. 3. We have a golden retriever and bought the attachment for grooming - it's better than the Furminator in my opinion. 4. Easily switches from area rugs/carpet to hardwoods and tile.
Cons 1. No place to store all the wonderful attachments on the vacuum. I bought a plastic container for all the attachments. 2. The filter is small. I essentially need to empty it after every use.
Even with the cons, I would gladly purchase this vacuum again. Every time I vacuum (which is 3x a week with our dog's spring shed going on), I am completely grossed out by what it picks up.
We have the Dyson V6, it's the cheaper of the cordless varieties. I freaking love it. Picks up the pet hair just fine and it came with some attachments. It's just so easy for me to clip off the big attachment and use it on the couch. I use it through out my whole house (around 1200 sq ft) and it doesn't lose battery power or suction. Super easy to clean the canister as well. Take a look at all the models though, I know each one is different.

you have my vacuum goals. Seriously this is our exact plan for when we move, roomba and dyson stick.

We have the big Dyson animal for our downstairs and the smaller version for upstairs. We had a Bissell before I bought the dysons, and it was horrible. We don't have any carpet in our house, and only have a couple of rugs.
We have the dyson animal too. Love it! I know a lot of people that love their sharks and claim they're better than dyson for less $$$ but they feel really cheap to me, when I used a shark vacuum I thought I was going to crack the plastic pulling it around.

My mom has a shark. That thing is WAY to complicated for me to figure out and use.
I seem to be the outsider here but I bought the dyson from Costco and returned it. It wasn't worth the $$$ to me and I bought my shark. I absolutely love it. It is easy to clean, use, it's light. It has a removable canister for stairs and picks up everything. That being said, I don't have animals inside so I don't have experience in that department. But I have been so happy with it regardless. I take it off the base and use the little brush attachment to do window seals and blinds. I've had t for a year.

I'm pretty sure this is the brand H switched to and I HATE it.
