We are in a tornado watch all day. We were told that there will be tornadoes and strong winds and damaging hail. I think the worst of it is supposed to happen around lunchtime. Yay.

I was out of the office yesterday and it was glorious. When I was feeding DS at 4 am, I had a mini-panic attack because I forgot that I had someone coming in for an internship interview and I hadn't even looked over their resume or typed up questions. I pump in the car on the way to work (always a fun experience) and prepare myself in time for the 9 AM interview. Why is that *kids* these days are so unprepared? I work in a prosecutor's office and this girl comes in with a sundress on - no blazer, no notepad to write things on - just her keys in her hands. We have brochures all over our waiting area and I intentionally let them sit out there an extra 5 minutes to read our brochures because of course I'm going to ask "What do you know about our program" - she says she doesn't know anything. WHY THE F ARE YOU HERE THEN?!

Rainy day here. Of course all the front row parking spaces were taken during daycare drop off so I had to run the kids inside in shifts.

My fever finally broke overnight so I'm feeling much better today. Still a little lightheaded and congested but I'll take that over the fever any day. I hope my appetite returns today.

@kitchen, That sucks. There's never a good time for childcare to cancel but this sounds like a really bad week for it to happen. I hope you can find alternative care and aren't stuck just working while the kids sleep.

Gorgeous here today. Too tired to enjoy cause I have been up since 4am (thanks kid).

@kitchen We are blessed to be part of a daycare network. Idea is that if our provider is sick, one of the locals who has a spot open can take M for a few days. We haven't tried the system yet though. So sorry for your situation!!! We have no family nearby so I can imagine the nightmare. Why no school Friday? Can DH take a half day?

Brought to you by my situation where I neglected to think through the problem until the nanny cancelled at 9:30pm last night and it seems like she probably will be out Friday also, so I'm home with no school on Friday and three littles and a 15-20 hour project with a Friday deadline. FML? This week can fuck right off.


ETA: I don't want to fire her, I like her.  She was in a car accident last Friday so she had to leave early Monday because she was sore (legit... she had enormous bruises and a huge cut on her arm).  She texted me late last night incredibly apologetic saying that now it seems like she might have broken her foot also so she needs to obviously deal with that today.  It seems like a legit excuse, It just leaves me totally and utterly up a creek.

There are organizations here that you can pay for a backup nanny- including care.com. I know it's a bit of a pita for a one day backup- but they could become a repeat. My sister has a nanny and my mom is her backup and I can tell you she uses my mom at least once/ month- typically more.
At my work we have a backup dependent care thing- kinda similar to care.com where they send a back ground checked person to your home.
Maybe discuss with the nanny if she has any ideas. I know my friends that nanny also are friends with other nannies. Some working part time and could work as backup. You could also have two nannies agree to be each other's backup.

@kitchen we are fortunate in that both sets of grandparents are local - mine live about 10 minutes away from us, and DH's parents live about 40 min away so they aren't IDEAL backup care but they generally are able to help. All but my MIL are retired. So if we have a daycare issue or the kids are sick and can't go, and I can't miss work or DH can't miss, that's who we ask.

We are supposed to have a substantial temp drop here too - they said possible flurries just north of me. I'm in GA....and it's April. This is not normal.

Monday was 70s and tornado threats all day, strong storms, etc.

Tuesday was sunny and 82. Beautiful.

Today is upper 60s and tornado threats all day again, worse than Monday.

Tomorrow is upper 40s potential for flurries/sleet and windy.

Friday is mid 50s and windy.

Saturday and Sunday upper 70s and sunny.

Like....I think we have all 4 seasons just in this week.

jcrewgirl, that is unbelievable. I would think that if one wants to do something in the legal field, one would dress for the part.

@kitchen, that sucks. Usually if we have an emergency come up on a day that MH works, I end up staying home. We ran into an issue last week when MH got mandated into work. G shares a day care spot with another baby, so I wasn't sure if he would be able to go. I had left early the Friday before, so I had to go in. My mom ended up coming down to watch G while N was in day care. She retired at the end of last year and lives two hours away. Our DCP knows MH's schedule can fluctuate and has been very accommodating for last minute changes. I hope you're able to find a solution.

As for me, it's a quiet Wednesday. MH is working, and the boys are at day care. I managed to get all of us out of the house on time and with little fighting, so I consider that a win. The day care posted the cutest pic of G on their FB page. He was sitting in the bouncy chair with a smile on his face and his tongue sticking out. It's supposed to be almost 60 degrees today, so I'm hoping both boys get to go outside today. It's supposed to rain again all day tomorrow. It will be in the 70s by this time next week. I am so ready for spring.

I have had to find alternative care for A at least 3 times a month since she started in January. Between A being sick, DCP's kid being sick, DCP falling down the stairs and being out for 3 days, she's has been out at least 12ish days since starting. Its a pain in the effing ass. Thankfully, my brother (his daughter goes to the same place) has been able to take days off as have my parents. Its just getting ridiculous. I have half a day that I have to hold on to until July when my vacation/sick/personal time is re-upped.

This has been a relatively busy work week, which is good and bad.

I have no backup daycare place aside from working from home/taking time off or asking my family in advance if it's more than a few days since they are several hours away. I previously had access to a backup care network through work, but not now. It was a fantastic benefit.

I don't know what else I'm missing, but the weather is gorgeous, DS2 and I are still dealing with colds, and i sure cold go for a nap.

Oh, I had a major supply dip yesterday. It was terrible. Was back up this morning, but my afternoon pump is looking meh.

@kitchen we are lucky enough that grandparents and siblings are local, but maybe ask nanny if she has any friends? I'm also in a sitters group for my town, and people are always posting that they are looking for back up jobs.
htle07 same here. DS probably sat up around 7.5 months. DD is ok, but superrrrr wobbly. I usually use a boppy around her for support.

I know all babies developed at different stages. Just wondering bc my first didn't until well into his 8th month.

This LO currently does a ton of tummy time, but is nowhere close to being able to sit.

We practice with her....we use the boppy sometimes, other times I just sit with her on the floor and help keep her steady while playing. I think anytime she uses the exersaucer and things like that, it helps also. We have the "sit me up floor seat" thing too which I think has been good for it. She isn't sitting unassisted yet but she is getting there.

I think 6 months is the early end of sitting up.
We do literal sit ups. I pull by his arms and he sits up and laughs and I roll him back down. Just working on his core.

The watch has spanned almost the whole state, but it's also possible she is near me Do you know where she is?

Yes it is. With DD I always denied I needed time away. No more denying. When I get the chance I'm out the door!
