Places like the library should have child sized/ friendly toilets. Our library has 2 bathrooms located inside the children's room, both have regular full sized toilets.
We went to a children's museum in UT that had a little toilet and a short sink and Dd was actually excited to use them. The place we were going for art class had the seat with the pull-down to make the hole smaller and that seems like a great solution that more places should have.
if you don't want family members doing something with your kid, tell them outright, don't assume they should know.
If I would have known it was a possibility for my MIL to have a cake with Eliza for her first birthday then I would have said something. Never even occurred to me. I think the issue is that certain people don't care about other's feelings and do things regardless if they know they should ask or not. It's not like she would have done that for other DC kids. NO, that wouldn't fly with them either. I think she also did it because she knew it would bother me and there's not really a lot I can do about it. And there are some people that are jerks that even though you tell them they still do it.

Yep, the doing it because they know it will get under your skin is terrible, and using the kids to do it is inexcusable.
If you need a fake version of your ring to travel with or whatever, you shouldn't have that ring (the real one).
Why can't you just leave it home? I never bring my engagement ring if I'm going to worry about losing it.
I wore a cheapie the last time I went to Ecuador. We were advised against bringing valuables and it would have been inappropriate where we were for much of the time. I like the symbolism of still wearing a ring though. Regular domestic travel though it wouldn't even cross my mind.
Everywhere I've traveled I've always wore it, unless it wouldn't fit like during pregnancy. If I couldn't wear it I wouldn't buy a replacement one. I also see Comic's point about certain areas it might be advised against.
I don't like hoverers, they make a mess. But if the toilet seat is already nasty, I will hover, because do not want to clean up other people's urine.
This I don't hover of its a decent looking bathroom. BUT especially with DD we end up in the public park potty and stuff that's absolutely nasty, I don't want to touch anything. I use her potty seat for her, I hover and instead of washing hands and touching the rusty/dirty sink I just use antibacterial gel

I always wear my wedding band but it's just a simple platinum band. I don't wear my engagement ring on vacations though. Maybe I'm a bad example because I don't wear my engagement ring everyday at home either.
I am so far from a germophobe. I'll obviously try to find a toilet that doesn't have piss all over the seat, but if that's not possible I'll just take a big wad of toilet paper, wipe the seat, and sit. I don't care if it's a restaurant, park, portapotty, whatever. Hovering is for pansies. If it's a gross place, I'll use hand sanitizer even after I wash my hands though.
Do you guys remember when we were still on TB and someone called out some minority group (I really don't remember which) in a really offensive way for always hovering and leaving a mess? LOL
Really even like outside park potties and port a potties and stuff???
Luckily, I don't have to go often and can hold it for awhile so I avoid those bathrooms.
I'm on blood pressure medicine with a water pill that makes me pee all the time. That plus a kid who is a new potty user ends us up in a lot of dirty potties
If it was socially acceptable, I would let DS pee outside everywhere we went. So much easier to let him pee in the grass than to try and hold him up on a public toilet and get him to wash his hands properly. Early FFFC: if we're at the park and I can find a somewhat secluded corner of grass where people don't walk, I let him pee in the grass.
I am team wash my hands when done but probably still gross because I don't always wash my jeans every wear. Probably would if I remember sitting on a dirty seat though.
