microworm when I taught pre-k grapes, popcorn, carrots, and hot dogs were all on the list of things we couldn't serve due to choking hazards so I just always have that in my mind.

We have been working at carrots with ds. His food therapist is determined to get him to bite and chew a baby carrot. 3 months later and he will only lick it and sometimes bite it. Only once has he ever chewed one. 😐
I threw away my brothers FILs ashes while helping my mom pack his house. We only found out once I joked with my brother that my mom thought he was a coke addict. The ashes were in his junk drawer in an unmarked ziplock bag. We had to drive an hour back to dig them out of the trash. I also inhaled some originally when I was smelling it trying to figure out what the hell it was. We promised to never speak of it again since SIL has no idea.
I haven't even told anybody else in real life, except for DH, it's killing me. I'm speechless as to the fact that this dad that she was so close to, that she had to leave our family events because it was too hard, who wouldn't show for our family pictures because my dad was there, was in a ziplock bag. In a junk drawer. In a different state. I can't. My mom told me that my brothers not allowed to have any of her ashes. It also amazes me that he doesn't think it's odd that this is where his FIL was.
I'm glad you found the ashes. In my parents case, their house was broken into and the cats ashes were stolen. I think the thief was just grabbing things and thought it was a jewelry box or bag. My mom had the police (he was caught) offer a deal if he would just tell her where he dropped them since they couldn't find it in his stuff. He said he threw it in the woods behind their house and my mom has never found it and she still brings it up. And that's just a cat. Your SIL needs to do better for her dad, sheesh.
How big was this bag? Is it possible it was just some of the ashes, not all? An entire person makes a lot of ashes. My dad was larger than the average person and this is probably tmi, but all of his ashes didn't fit in the urn.

It was a sandwich size ziplock. It definitely wasn't all of him but it was her portion of his ashes. Even if that's how she got them I can't imagine leaving them in that or not putting it in something nicer or somewhere safer.
Also he passed back in September, so it wasn't like she got them recently and they were just temporarily there. It was mixed in with take out menus, change, old receipts, screws, etc.
Why was your mom helping clean out your brothers fils house?
My mom and I were cleaning up my brothers house last weekend to help have it more cleaned up and organized for this weekend. They flew in from Florida this morning to pack a pod with the rest of their house stuff and furniture to have it shipped down there then driving back tomorrow night. I only did it to help my mom. My brother is on my shit list right now.
