1. I'm crazy busy at work the next few weeks. It's stressful but at least the days fly by.
3. DS1 just asked to go to Disney. He saw the advertisement on Disney Jr. and said "I want to go there". Sorry kid your brother is too little, we will be waiting a few more years.
3. I'm quite excited the weather is getting nicer, more outside time for the littles = slightly better sleep.
DS2's 1st birthday is the end of August and I've got the planning down on that. DS1's on the other hand ... at least it's Paw Patrol theme so easy to find stuff. I quick ordered him a shirt today so it would arrive in time. And we are doing it in NJ at my parent's house so I don't have to worry about food my mom will plan that.
microworm, does he have a favorite toy that you could play off of? DD's 1st birthday theme was Cookie Monster because he was one of her favorite stuffed animals. We just did a few decorations, everything else was blue and had cookie monster cupcakes.
Not really. Unless you count door stops and cords.
Thanks =). I have 0 ideas or anything to work with at this point. I mean, he's (almost) 10 months old. He doesn't "like" anything specific that could be turned into a theme.
What about a beach ball/summer theme? You could set up a kid pool/slip-n-slide/sprinkler in your back yard for the kids to play on. Beach balls for decorations (and party favors), beach ball cake/cupcakes/cake pops.
We don't really have kids to invite so it would be pretty low key. But beach/summer/bbq theme sounds good and easy.
DD got invited to two birthday parties this weekend on Sunday. Probably not going to make it to both and they're both close friends. Now I feel bad that we're not inviting friends to her birthday. She wants pink so I'm just doing pink stuff. Maybe some day I'll find a way to be cute. footloose, do you have a pic of one of these unicorn horse things?! Sounds so cute!

1. A new deli opened in the town where I work (which previously had very few food options) and they make their bacon my favorite way - thick cut and crispy. And they put a really generous amount. And they deliver. This would be a much better thing if I didn't need to lose 15 lbs.
2. I will send treats to daycare for dd's birthday but no party. No local family or friends and daycare is an hour+ away so her friends there are too far. And we are grinches. And luckily, we haven't yet been invited to any birthday parties. $ is very tight for most families there and most have lots of relatives in the area so I think family only parties is the norm for most until school age. Or just family and family friends not school/daycare friends. Many of my students don't even have or go to birthday parties because $ and transportation.
3. Bro and SIL visited last weekend and brought dd birthday gifts (perfectly low-key - just 3: a game, a book, and a mini rubber duckies reading a book which is cute because sil is a librarian) and she totally loves the game. It's called pengaloo and is basically a memory game with wooden penguins that sit on and hide different colored eggs . It's very cute
So is it bad if I skip one of DDs parties this weekend? They're both Sunday but one is 10-12 and the other is at 12:30. We've been planning on going to the later one for over a week and just got invited to the other one this evening. Both are for two siblings so if we did both it'd be 4 presents to buy plus I'm not sure DD could handle so much in a day before a nap. I feel like I'm being cheap but even if I did $20/kid that's $80. She's not having any kids at her party.

Don't do them then. There are a million other things you can do. A's party was Spring themed so I did a flower pot decorating station.
I'm going to have masks that the kids can make, but I wasn't sure if that was enough. The last two years I have told kids to take a balloon. Lol. I also don't like the trinkets or candy.
I think a mask is a cute idea, and enough of a favor to take home. Honestly, I think DS's favorite thing he ever got from a birthday party was the balloon. LOL

Well that's good news! Move over Pinterest. I'm #winning.
Very cute! Now when can I expect you to make and deliver all these items?
Honestly you could just do the beach ball fruit thing in the middle of the food table and throw some beach balls in the backyard. That's enough of a theme for me .
emmygirl I don't think you need to go to both parties. I also don't think you need to spend $20 per kid, especially since they are siblings having a party together. There's lots of board games (like hungry hungry hippos) that go on sale for $5-$7. Or a bucket of water toys, a Barbie, etc... As long as the gift of something they will enjoy, I don't think you need to spend so much on a little kid birthday. Maybe if they're a close friend or had spent $40 on your little, then I could understand.
+1 to not going to all the parties or spending $20 per child, that's a lot. Sidewalk chalk, bucket and gardening tools, sticker book, outside ball...etc all cost under $10
Another birthday question: We're doing an ice cream theme. I normally wouldn't say anything about food on the invitations, but I'm afraid people would worry that ice cream will be the only food served, and I plan to have plenty of snacks and finger-foods just like normal. Does calling it an "ice cream picnic" get the point across? The party is at 2:00 so maybe it doesn't even matter since it's not a meal time.

Ice cream picnic does not register with me. You could just note in small text that snacks and finger foods will be served.
ETA: since it's at 2:00 I wouldn't think twice if I thought it was just ice cream and no snacks.

JoBub - I don't think you have to say anything at all about food. Just send your invitations and when guests arrive, they'll see the theme, and they'll see food, and that's it.
I finally got a call back from the pedi. His antibiotics are causing gastritis, so he is being put on zantac. I really hope this helps because we can't drop the antibiotic.

What are the anibiotics for? Will he be on them forever? I think I missed something.

He has been on them since birth to prevent UTIs. He has grade 5 kidney reflux and a torturous ureter (the tube between kidney and bladder). He also has a small, deformed kidney with a cyst on that side. The reflux is like this diagram, but the ureter is also several times longer and looks like intestines on his scan as it winds back and forth. If his kidney doesn't fail he will have surgery. They are just waiting as long as possible so that he can kind of grow into it as much as possible, because he needs a major repair.

scotty138 I didn't realize the kidney issues were that severe. I'm sorry to hear that. And I apologize if you've share this all before I wasn't paying attention.
Is the other kidney ok? When will they do the repair?

His other kidney has grade 2 reflux that he will likely grow out of. He has 2 days of testing coming up at the end of June and then we will make a treatment plan. I don't think I've said much here, mostly on my other BMB. I've really struggled with PPD/PPA this time and this is a big part of that. I'm becoming better at talking about it so I don't internalize everything.
scotty138 I'm so sorry you're having such a rough time. I feel like it would be completely normal to deal with those types of feelings in your situation. Praying that the tests show good news and treatment is successful.
