I'm clearly being a PW but I didn't want to derail the other thread. I am 100% natural and have a mostly 3C curl. I wear my hair straight and get it wash, blow dried and straightened every other week. All of a sudden my hair is breaking off around my edges and it looks horrible. I brought it up to my beautician and she assured me that it was post partum hair loss and not heat damage. I've been going to her for over 10 years but I'm only recently natural. I will be getting a sewin this weekend to give my hair a break until I can figure this out.
Are y'all buying "8 months post partum hair loss" or is this truly heat damage?
I lost my edges too after having both of my girls. It was around 5 months when my hair loss started. I just seemed to go bald though, it wasn't even breakage. I had a relaxer.

When did it stop and start growing back?
It was around 3 or 4 months before it started growing back.
Are you BFing at all or have you been? I had another surge of hair loss when we introduced solids and again when we weaned. Each change in hormones really did a number on my hair.

Nope I'm not breastfeeding. That's why it's odd. I feel like my hormone levels would've been balanced by now.
I'd think it could be a combination of both. PP shedding is still effecting me 6 months in, and I'd think that heat on already fragile hair would make it worse.
Honestly I haven't put heat to my hair or anything in 3 years because I'm so scared of heat damage.
My hair is too fragile for me to even think about using something with heat as intense as straighteners. So it well worth investing in a good quality Hair Straightener cause you just get what you pay for. And always use protector on your hair when straightening your hair. This will minimise the heat damage.
