You would think by now H would know do not talk to me until after I've had a cup of coffee. I don't mean a few sips either, I mean at least 1 cup and maybe let it soak in a bit first. Then you might get a "morning". After another cup I might even tack on a "good".

Today is the first day I can think of that I've ever put him in a shirt that isn't a onesie or doesn't have a onesie underneath.
I'm 99% sure he's going to go around showing everyone his belly. In the bath he likes to poke at it and then look at me and he laughs when I say "belly!".

silverspoon, DD3 is very curious about belly buttons. When she's hanging out on my lap she likes to pull up my shirt and poke at it. She'll also pull down my neckline and poke at my boobs. I try to prevent both of these things in public with moderate success. She's a fast little booger.
I have baby fever. I don't even know how I feel about it. We would need a new car and it makes me wish I had saved a year of absence for in the future so I didn't feel such pressure. I'm going to be 34 this summer and have if history. But, babies....😩

Well, we must be in the midst of another round of teething, because that was a complete crap night of sleep. Like whoa.
At least she is kind of cute while she's keeping me up, though. I try to ignore her for a bit to see if she can go back to sleep on her own, and if she can't she will sit up, pat her tummy, and yell TUCK! so that I will tuck her in again and get her comfy. Oh, and nurse her of course. It seriously felt like I was cluster feeding last night.

I worry sometimes that he isn't developing at the right pace when you guys mention stuff like your DD yelling "tuck" to come in and tuck her in NellieOleson. I can't think of any associations he makes with speech like that. He doesn't shake his head yes or no, he only just started waving bye. His daycare teachers haven't said anything, and his pediatrician isn't concerned.
Everything I've looked up seemed to point to 18 months being the soonest you should be concerned so I guess we wait. I'm hoping it's like the walking. He took his sweet little time learning to walk, but once he did he was a pro at it with very little hesitation or stumbling.

silverspoon - I wouldn't worry if I were you... although I know it's hard not to sometimes. Dd2 doesn't say many words - tuck is one of the only ones she uses regularly. She mostly makes sounds and uses gestures to communicate.
When dd1 was in PT for gross motor delay, the therapist told me that speech development is related to walking, and that they usually see a big leap in language skills a few month after walking starts. (I can't remember how many months she said was typical - I want to say 4, but that could be wrong.)
I guess when they are learning to walk there is a lot of brain power going to that skill. Speaking also requires keeping your airway guarded and you need the strength and coordination to do that, and a good portion of that comes from standing and walking. Speech also had a huge motor component - i.e. learning how to shape your mouth and move your tongue, so it often takes a little longer for kids who are still working on their stability to figure that out.
Anyway. It sounds like he's doing just fine. He knows how to communicate with you, even if that isn't through spoken English language at this moment. It will come!

silverspoon, definitely no need to worry at this point. Some kids are tryers - they try and try and try. Some kids are observers - they watch and watch and watch, and when they've figured it out in their heads, then they just do it. DD1 is one of the latter. She said like 20 words when she was 2.5, and then all of a sudden she started talking in full sentences (4+ words) in both languages. It was the same with walking. She didn't even roll over intentionally until she was 9 months old. She never attempted to crawl, she just up and did it one day in playgroup (after watching other kids). The point is - all kids are different. It's really hard, but try not to compare! FWIW, DD3 also just started walking a couple weeks ago, and she just started walking consistently about 2 days ago.

crimsonandclover, NellieOleson Thank you guys, that does help. I find myself comparing him a lot to other kids and I need to let that go. In his class he's now one of the older ones and for the longest time he was the only one not walking. Clearly peer pressure isn't a thing for him yet.
silverspoon M doesn't talk much either. She says bye bye and that's about it. She said Mama for a few days, but hasn't in like a month. She waves. And she's started trying to mimic animals, but all she can really manage is to grunt at them lol.
In an attempt to give S more one on one time, I told him to get me up when he got up and we'd watch something together before M got up. And then he got up before 6. I got him to lay in bed with me for awhile and then we got up at about 6:45. M got up at about 7:30 and we went to the grocery store. It's not even 9, and I've done more this morning than I usually do by noon.

silverspoon, also, DD3 isn't really talking yet. She has Mama/Papa, which she uses interchangeably, and recently (like in the last few days) she started saying "'Allo" (for Hello) and "'Ein" (German "Nein" for "No), which is pretty high up on the necessary words list for a kid who's the youngest in her daycare group and has 2 older sisters at home. Occasionally she'll also say "Danke" (German for thank you) when you give her something, but not consistently.
I really hate it when strangers talk to me. It's weird, because everyone that knows me says I have resting bitch face, but strangers seem to think I'm friendly and decide we need to swap life stories. I don't like it.
kelltothekell I felt the same way when S was little. It's part of the reason I waited so long to try for M. He was 3.5 when I stopped the birth control.

Where in the world is 14joa31? Are you moving? In Brussels? We miss you!
Still teething here too, NellieOleson! Sorry for the crap sleep.
So glad there is no more puking crimsonandclover. Did they prescribe Zofran?
DD's language is just recently exploding, like in the past 1-2 weeks. And she's been walking for about 2 months so that seems in line with nellie's explanation. That was super helpful by the way! DS didn't walk till later but talked earlier. So I was getting worried about DD being behind as well.
silverspoon, this is just the beginning of forever comparing our LO's to others!! I'm always wondering how the other Kindergartners are doing with reading and wondering if DS is on track or behind. It's a vicious cycle!

Also, DD is obsessed with her belly button as well. She loves to poke it with her finger and lift up her shirt to show everyone. She also loves finding other peoples belly buttons. So that's fun...
So glad there is no more puking crimsonandclover . Did they prescribe Zofran?
I just had to look up the active drug in Zofran, but yep, that's it - ondansetron. The Germans just call things by their generic names There is no Advil or Aleve, there's ibuprofen and naproxen.
I just loaded 5 big garbage bags full of empty bottles and cans into my van. I'm going to take them in for refund after I pick S up. It's easier to do without the kids, but H won't be home until like 11.
We are in a never ending cycle of sick here. Hubs who has never really been a get sick guy is struggling the most but it is kicking my ass too. I am so fried and my heavy travel schedule starts this week. I had no idea you could just hop from one bug to the next like this. She has the belly button love too. She says bell butt. points at it and isn't afraid to look for other peoples bell butts. As far as progression/comparing we do it, and worry about it too. It's so hard not to! but then she will have a little leap forward, and I don't worry about it for a bit.
M love the belly buttons too. She only really goes after her own, mine and H's though. She likes to jam her finger in as far as she can, so that's fun.

Maybe he's catching on faster than I thought.
I keep my cookies (i'm a sucker for Lemon Oreos) on one corner of the counter and I usually give him a piece if he's around and I grab one. Well, now he goes over to that corner of the kitchen and reaches up towards the counter and cries.
I'm going to have to start hiding my snacks better.
