tikoberry99 I knew we were similiar! Can't believe someone else did the placenta into pills. Was your OB cool with the idea? Tell me all the things about it
I didn't do pills but did keep the placenta (cultural reasons). Nobody cared or said anything but they did have a specific protocol. We had to sign a form, bring a cooler, and get it within 2 hours of birth. H had to drive it home because the would not store it for us (30 minute drive). My mom stayed with us so it was okay but if you have a doula or another option to take it home while your H stays then that is good.
I've elected to have a c-section because our baby is growth restricted and itty bitty. Our baby will likely end up in the NICU at least for a little while and I want to be able to go see her as soon as possible but was told I would need to recover for around 12-20 hours before being put in a wheelchair and sent to NICU. That seems like too long. How long where in you in recovery for? When were you able to get out of bed?
I had a scheduled C due to breech presentation. Mine was at 5pm and I was in bed until about 7am the next day, when they took out my catheter and the nurses made me get up and walk and pee with their help. It was not easy and I had to hold on to the bedside and the door frames, and I walked with my IV pole for balance the first few times. It got easier and by day 2 I was getting up without help, albeit very slowly.
honestly, I think 12 hours sounds about right, accounting for sewing you up after surgery, recovering in the PACU, and then settling in to the postpartum room and having the nurses observe you every hour or more while your anesthesia wears off and they get you up and running on pain meds. They might also have you on pitocin during that time and they will be observing you very closely for excessive bleeding. I mean, it's major surgery. That said, I understand the importance of getting you to the NICU quickly, and hopefully your nurses will understand that. If you are planning to BF I would definitely ask them to get you a hospital grade pump and an LC right away since your LO won't be nursing during those early hours.
We started tummy time with DD at one week old. At her first pediatrician's appointment they noticed that she had torticollis (where the head/ neck tilts to one side) and tummy time was essential to getting her to even out and to strengthen the weak side of her neck (she is 4 mo now and is now almost to normal). She hated it at first but now she is a total tummy time boss and will hang out on her tummy for 20-30 minutes.

My OB was fine with it, but it's not really her decision. Check with the hospital because some make you sign a release form since it's considered hazardous waste. The lady I paid to do it picked up the placenta which was in a cooler on ice a few hours after my c section and brought me the pills 48 hours later while I was still in the hospital.
If you look online for reviews some women swear by them and others said the pills made them emotional. Mine made me very emotional, so I stopped taking them. They are in the freezer since I have also read you can save them for menopause and it's supposed to help with hormone levels so I plan on taking them then. If I'm lucky enough to get pregnant again with our last embryo I probably will do it again, but if I feel overly emotional I will stop and save the pills for use later.
After pregnancy most women cry daily and feel over whelmed, but something was a little off and I forgot to take the pills for a few days and felt much better...this is when I realized the pills were causing the crying and not just being in a post pardon state.
FYI the person can also make a placenta ointment for scares and you can make placenta smoothies as opposed to pills.

My elective cSection was at 11am. Baby didn't do well and was taken to NICU after an hour in recovery. After my 3 hours in the recovery area I got up into a wheelchair and went to NICU before my own room. The rest of the night I had a nurse wheel me down every 2-3 hours to feed him. I even was able to stand to give him his first bath and rock him at 2 am. I attribute my fast recovery to getting up so early. I was sore but totally able to move by myself and get in and out of the bed/chair/recliner.

I have both a Boppy pillow and My Brest Friend thanks to my cousin. At our hospital tour today they suggested bringing all your own breastfeeding supplies. Which one would you suggest bringing?

MBF hands down. It can be positioned much higher and is more comfortable to use with a newborn. And don't be afraid to ask for lots of extra pillows in your room too! The added support is so nice, especially after recovering from labor/delivery. I think the best position for me in those first few days used no fewer than 6 pillows precariously placed. 😊

Honestly I wouldn't bother bringing either to the hospital. Pillows will get the job done for the short time you're there. You'll be so glad you have both though! I went through phases with each of them. MBF was especially helpful the first few days/weeks.

teachermomtobe MBF is the best thing ever.DD is 8 months and I still use it. We also have a boppy, but I never liked it for BFing. Used it lots for baby positioning and comfy naps.

I couldn't have survived without MBF at the hospital. It helped me learn to position. Once DD got bigger, I switched to boppy (around 5mos).

@wineandcupcakes, I just went to the OB yesterday and we're scheduling my c-section for Monday or Tuesday. Waiting to hear from the doctor today after she talks to the hospital to see what's available. I got a lot more information yesterday. They will definitely be doing a spinal to numb me. I'm hoping I'll be up walking within 12 hours. I can't wait to find out today what time and date it will all be. That sounds awful about your lungs! That has to be a scary feeling. I'm definitely feeling a little more nervous now that I know it's only a week away and after hearing all the details but it's the best option for the baby. Thanks for all the information you've given me. I went and bought those bottles you suggested too!
kaliRN, That's great that your hospital was so accommodating and took you back and forth to the NICU! I hope mine will be like that too. I really don't want to wait too long to spend time with my little one. I'm hoping I can attempt to breast feed pretty quickly too but my doctor said sometimes small baby's have a difficult time nursing because they're not as strong so I may have to pump first and use a bottle. It seems like everything I read said exactly what you did, the faster you get up and move, the quicker you recover. Thanks for all the information! It definitely makes me feel better to hear of other peoples experiences.

@led and madamewaffles thanks, I started putting her food on the coffee table and she literally stops to eat as she does laps around it. MH got her to eat some by having her feed him first. Sometimes she takes food out of her mouth and puts it in his, this entertains me...
