Dentist and brushing teeth

Have you taken LO to the dentist yet? When are you planning to? How did they do? How are are your LOs doing with brushing their teeth?

I have not, but need to. J's pedi wants him to go between 12 and 18 months. He's only an inhaled steroid so it's important for him to go, but I just haven't made the appointment yet. 

He doesn't like it when I brush his teeth so it's not at all effective, but I guess it's better than nothing. I am managing to get it in twice a day and he likes to chew on his toothbrush.

K also dislikes when I brush her teeth but likes to chew on the toothbrush. I didn't take the boys to the dentist until DS1 was 3 and DS2 was almost 4. DS2 is autistic though, so we delayed quite a while.

I think I should take K sooner though. She only has 5 teeth and we brush everyday. H and I both think K has stinky breath, so I have no idea what that could be but maybe needs to be checked out.

My pedi told us if we have the insurance take her but if not you can wait until they are 2. I haven't made the appt yet. I am in the middle of some dental drama myself, I like the place I'm going so I was gonna see if they do kids as well. I always went then same place as my parents but here it seems like more ppl got to a special kids only one...

LO loves brushing her teeth. Her iron supplements have stained her teeth, we cut them with a drop of juice now and brush with a little baking soda and it's gotten a little better. See what a dentist says...

We have not yet. The pediatrician who saw her Friday recommended we take her just to introduce her to it and get her accustomed to sitting in the chair. That requires finding one... I haven't even found one for myself, and we have lived here for a little over two years. (And will probably be moving again some time next year.)

J isn't a big fan of having her teeth brushed. We can usually get a couple swipes across, but mostly she likes to hold it and bite on it.

I was actually thinking with that molar mostly through that we should brush twice a day now instead of just the once before bed. She wouldn't let us get a real good look but it seems like she has three other molars (top and bottom) getting ready to come in, which if she does she would have those in addition to her two bottom front teeth.

We haven't scheduled anything but we asked pedi at his 12mos visit and she said we can take him already if we want. I just give him the brush in the morning and at bath time at night. He doesn't like it when I do it. But sometimes I'll do a quick brush if needed.

This explanation I don't get... you only go to the dentist twice a year... sitting in the chair once at 14 months isn't gluing to get you used to anything. That doesn't mean it's not right to go, I just think that's a weird reason your pedi gave you

We're going in a few weeks. He doesn't mind having his teeth brushed. We do it in the bath every night.

I didn't take dd1 until she was 4. I'm sure E will go a little earlier, simply because her sister goes, but my dentist doesn't recommend it until they are 3 unless you have concerns.

I'm not about to take her out of town to see a pediatric dentist.

I do need to start brushing her teeth though!

My sister got the same explanation from her dentist so both of her kids (3yo and almost 15mo) have appointments soon. The 3yo already goes regularly.

In other news, my brother's youngest (18mo) bit the dentist today. 😂😂

Owen just had his first appointment, he did great. They just brush, apply fluoride and make sure everything looks okay.

Oh and he's obsessed with brushing his teeth 🙄

I take the kids every 6 months after their 1st bday.
