I prefer cute casual tennis shoes to those ugly hiking sandals any day. Sorry. They're ugly.
Even that last link? And I know they aren't the prettiest but my feet get really hot and gross in my shoes, which I also need to replace because they are starting to fall apart. I'm not much of a shoe person.
No, the last link those sandals are a lot better. They aren't high fashion of course, but that's not what you were going for.
I think they will look better on as well. Right now you just look at the sole since no foot is in it.

I wish they had them modeled on. Like for clothes. That way I could see the whole look better
athn64, i feel like they are all orthopedic looking but if you love them then go for it. If it was a walking or hiking shoe you are looking for I'd go with breathable sneakers.

I think they are much less orthopedic looking than the others you posted, and on your feet you will mostly see the straps, not the sole. The color is not my favorite, but I could see you out walking in brown shorts and a tshirt and they'd be fine for that. I love and adore my merrells, so that's my bias.
I also like chacos, but they are pricey and I found them just a touch too narrow for me.
You've got me shopping again and now I kind of want these, but I just spent my DSW gift cards.

I mean hiking is not really fashion. So wear what's comfortable. Some "hippyish" dressing people wear the Tevas and while I think they're ugly, they go with the whole look and vibe. But like me in my workout clothes with those- it's a no. But I dress preppier a lot of times in those situations. Or at least like a fitted tshirt and workout capris. Of the ugly sandals, I actually like those light colored ones you posted first. No thank you to orange and brown together- ever.

Yeah, I know it's not the best color combo, but the orange is subtle so maybe not as noticeable on.

And chacos are always ugly
They're not pretty per se, but they also aren't hideous and more sporty and functional. No one is trying to pass them as business casual.
On a different note, I found knock-off Toms at Target that are actually comfortable. I have since ordered 2 more pairs so got 3 for slightly more than the price of one pair of real Toms: www.target.com/p/women's-mad-love%C2%AE-lydia-slip-on-shoes---tan-8/-/A-51391985
I wear a lot more browns and tans in the summer than blacks. So black and grey don't match my wardrobe as well. Hence me looking at brown
What do you normally wear hiking? Do you wear workout clothes? Regular shorts and casual clothes? That might help. Even if you wear like the same jacket or something- maybe match with that.

Mostly regular clothes. It's not a big workout, as mostly it's toddler led. So like khaki shorts and a tshirt
becole, apparently we are one today. I was literally just looking at the same reefs. I looooove my reef flip flops, they are so comfortable and last years

could you be swayed to switching to workout crops and running shoes?

I have a pair of the Dream ones in black, brown, and black and white. I'm looking at the Dream II- they're a little bit different. I need to try them on! I stretched my flip flops last year with pregnant feet...
The sole on these looks more foam, flip flop like vs the sturdier plastic, rubber of the merrells or chaco types.
They are more casual than hard soled hiking sandals. But again, to me, if you need a hard sole- wear a tennis shoe.
For me personally I wear a trail shoe "hiking" because ticks and because we end up at playgrounds where wood chips and rocks get lodged in my sandals. I do wear my merrells on longer paved walks though, because again, for me personally I need more support than a flip flop, but when it's hot my toes like freedom. I think for athn64 the ones she posted seem perfect for what she's doing. The ones further up thread looked more old ladyish and "support" sandal whereas the true sport brands are a bit sleeker.

I have the twisted Stars and another pair they don't have on the site anymore. But my favourites i just tossed after 12 years were my Gingers, i think i'll get more of those this year.

Try the dream on your foot. You won't take it off.

If i lived in year round heat i would only own reefs. Just discovered they make Toms like shoes too!

When we go to actual wooded trails and such, I will wear my shoes or boots. But most of our day to day stuff is easier trails or pavement, so that's where I'm wearing sandals. But I hear you about the ticks. They are bad already this year.

I'm never showing any of you my sandals and shoes. I'm sure you would think they're orthopedic, but I don't care. I have wide, flat feet and have orthotic inserts. There are only so many options.
