So due to high amniotic fluid levels and foetal heart rate concerns I was induced the 25th via balloon catheter or face possible CS on the 27th. I was 1-2cm dilated and monitored over night. By morning of the 26th however there was no change in my cervix and I thought the worst. It would have to be RCS. They removed the catheter and prepared to discuss options with the oncoming team. I was in a shitty mood expecting them to send me home and I'd come back in on Thursday for the CS. Luckily I had an amazing midwife and OB assigned to me who were fighting for me to succeed. The were willing to give popping waters and syntocin a chance but due to polyhydromnios it meant there would be some extra risks.
At 9:10 I did consent to AROM (pop goes the water) and OB had to keep his hand inside to make sure there was no cord prolapse. They manually pushed baby into engaged position to reduce the chance of cord prolapse happening. Ouch ouch ouch! Syntocin drip was in place and ready to go, but I had to stay in a reclined position to allow baby to further engage and frequents checks for cord prolapse.
After an hour I was able to have free movement which is what I had been striving for since being completely bed bound during labour with my Caesarean. I let gravity do its thing and walked circles around the birth room. Contractions were manageable drug free using meditation and positive affirmation and breathing exercises. By 11:30-12:00 I started using gas and air and became sassy. I used a bean bag and moved to hands and knees and DH said I sounded like I was fighting a bear. DH also had divorce papers almost served to him for cracking jokes all labour.
Contractions increased and I entered the second stage. At 1:40 I reached 6cms which was the limit I gave myself to request pain relief. Epidural was ordered by due to being in a Caesarean I had to wait until 2:45-3:00. I had two students in the room that DH wanted to punch because one had no confidence and needed to be reminded to do tasks and the other he said was a know it all who was too proud to admit she made a mistake. We lost baby's heartbeat a few times and she refused to get a more senior person to help until DH stole the monitor and told her to leave. He found the HB and she didn't come back in.
By the time anaesthetist arrived I was past the point of being nice to people. I think I bit my husband. It's possible I broke his fingers. The anaesthetist tried multiple times but failed, then on the third or maybe fourth time managed to get the epidural in however I was high on gas and air DH and the midwife had to remove it from me. DH said I passed out but I remember the conversations. The epidural failed to numb the right side of my body and I was left with full feeling which fucking sucks as much as having no epidural at all. They attempted to call him back however he was in another Caesarean.
So on I went. Screaming like a banshee. Finally my midwife said I was ready to push. At 4pm with one gimp dead leg and one half of a feeling body, I started pushing but I was exhausted. I pushed for an hour and even though he was in the right position his head was just a bit too much for me to do. I started giving up and asked for a Caesarean but my midwife said no I could do this. DH got in on the positive train and then they called the OB. After an exam OB offered both the Ventouse or forceps extraction to help baby big head. They put me in the stirrups and OB asked me to prove I could push and achieve this VBAC and watched me push. He attached the ventouse and said he'd have baby out in two or three contractions if I did my share. Everyone cheering on, i was able to get enough crowned and DH actually looked. He's usually so squeamish.
there were a few times I thought my scar was rupturing because of the pain but the OB monitored me and said it's more likely just time to give my ute a break and get baby out. The second contraction I needed an episiotomy to help give big head enough room and he finally emerged. They removed the Ventouse and I was able to breathe baby out the rest of the way.
At 5:24pm AEST on 26/04 with one very bruised and pointy cone head he was passed up and placed on me. We did delayed cord clamping and extended skin to skin while they stitched me up. I did lose a bit of blood after the placenta came out so I had to stay being monitored. I got my VBAC!
Also I lol'd a lot because the doctor kept calling the butt the back passage and was asking to stick panadol in there. I kept giggling so they took the gas and air off me again. Bastards. I don't remember when exactly that was but I do remember it.
DS1 finalised the name and we announced it today.
