Help me plan my kids bday parties

I am not crafty so everything needs to be simple or store bought. My mom is a decent cake decorator (can do fondant and stuff) and will be making the cakes. Here's what I was thinking for themes. I'm not huge into themes so just a couple theme-y things would do.

DS1 - dinosaurs

DS2 - hungry caterpillar

What if for the dino party you got little dino figures from the dollar store, put them in leftover plastic easter eggs and put them in a sandbox/table for kids to discover? Not sure how many kids will be involved and if you're planning to be inside or outside.

Sorry to disappoint, but there will be goody bags for DC. But not the family party. Blame other DC parents for setting the bar high.  I am thinking store bought generic cupcakes though.

I ordered cupcakes for DS1s class- I specifically asked for WHiTE icing- no color- and then asked for them to put super hero rings on top of it. Why the colored icing? Why?

Yea I'm thinking the dinosaur theme for DS1's party will be limited to the cake. Maybe I can enlist my crafty teacher best friend to make a couple of those dino balloons posted above. DS1 would love those because he loves balloons.

They have dinosaur balloons at party city.

DS's first birthday was hungry caterpillar. My mom was crafty and made some hungry caterpillar vases for tables, I ordered DS a hungry caterpillar shirt off etsy and everyone else was just bright colors from the book.
I was going to try to do all the foods from the book, then I remembered no one really cares & I ordered fruit & veggie trays.

No goody bags here. I also only did valentines cards for the kids at school. O came home with multiple little goody bags for freaking Valentine's Day. The over-achievers make me feel so lame and like I don't care about my kid. I say let's never do goody bags again!

I'm not doing goodie bags, but did find the crayons water color paints on sale at target and bought a bunch of those to hand out to go along with the theme.

I know you said your mom is doing the cake, but just in case, Costco has both a dinosaur and a caterpillar cake design.

DD requested a Little Einsteins party. I'm getting a Costco cake with the balloon design and sticking Little Einsteins cupcake rings in it. #doingtheleast
