Rainy here. Dd1 is at preschool and dd2 is napping. I have to go exchange the conditioner I bought accidentally for shampoo. I hate when I do that. It's huuuge and I still have the bottle of conditioner from the last time I did this.
I was so tired yesterday that I was in bed by 8pm. It probably took me a half hour to actually fall asleep, but I didn't wake up until DS woke up at 4am. I gave him a bottle and he coughed on and off for like 15 minutes and went back to sleep, as did I. Usually, if I am awake at 4am, I'm awake for the day, but my alarm clock actually woke me up, which is super rare. I'm so glad DS's congestion didn't seem to be as bad last night and he was able to sleep a million times better than the night before.
DD2's birthday party is this Sunday. I'm starting to regret having it at my house. At least this gives me an excuse to have to thoroughly clean it. I think we sent out 16 invitations and the RSVP deadline has passed and there are ten kids coming, not including mine. I'm really hoping I don't get any late/last-minute responses because I think that's enough kids (and parents) to squeeze into my house.
I'm tired today, and the gray weather is not helping at all. I think the sun is supposed to come out later, which will be nice. MH is making ribs on the smoker for dinner tonight. I am very excited about it. Everyone slept until almost 7 this morning (except for me, of course). It was nice to have the house to myself for a while before everyone got up. N was asking MH if they were going to do something fun today, so I'm not sure what their plans are for the day.
I'm working. We're swamped. My brain hurts. teacher appreciation week so I had H take the flowers in I had bought and thank you cards... I am thankful for them but also get a little salty since I get no thanks for doing my job and i feel like I give daycare workers gift every holiday... plus a whole week just for extra appreciation. Salty.
Telework today but going to head out for sushi with a friend at lunch. The sun is out, but the house is noisy because they're doing the yard work and repainting all the parking spots in our neighborhood. Need to also do some cleaning before I go pick up DS from daycare later.
I'm knee deep in gifts for our annual meeting. Boxing, wrapping, folding, and bowing. All. Day. Long. We are giving out engraved Yeti tumblers and custom beach towels. Each Yeti has to be boxed, wrapped, and bowed, while each towel has to be rolled and bowed. I need to do 100 of each. Ugh. I hate this time of year at work.
Lol becole. I always feel guilty during teacher appreciation week because I get the gifts/ meals along with the teachers. Lately our district also celebrates counselors week in the fall so I get 'honored' twice. I actually don't like the fall stuff because I'm the only counselor in the building and I don't like that much attention.
I've been told twice how tired I look today. Both kids ended up in our bed last night and I kept getting hit in the face.
I should add I'm laughing at your word choice of salty becole, not that you feel underappreciated. What do you do again?
I work for the government, taking complaints from the general public and then if they are legitimate, following up with the employer to get them to voluntarily comply. So half the day I am "live" taking calls and the other half I'm following up with companies or giving presentations to the public about their "rights" or to employers about their responsibilities.

You definitely deserve recognition for that - dealing with upset people sounds super stressful. Then having to confront the companies. I would be so awful at your job, I cringe at any conflict/confrontation. My Dad worked for Social Security and was always super stressed when he had to work directly with the public.

That's really interesting that there is a week because I've been here 10 years and I've not seen as much as an email regarding it. We usually get the "figure head" thanks for your service stuff randomly. You don't go into public service for the thanks. That's for sure. But we deal with a lot and we do a lot for people. But it's just expected. I do work for a great agency though so the pay and benefits are my appreciation.
becole I'm with you on teacher appreciation week. Last year I thought I was being so thoughtful. A couple weeks before teacher appreciation week I bought all the teachers chocolates to surprise them. The following week we get a letter from the director telling us what to bring each day-personal note of thanks on Tuesday, pampering gift Wednesday, and sweet treat Thursday. Suddenly my gift wasn't as thoughtful OR enough! I bought for 11 teachers this year between the three kids, and I spent over $250. I wouldn't be so bitter if we weren't told what to bring for three separate days.

Hard pass to day of the week gifts. That's overkill.
This was ours too. Tuesday a single flower (which no one sells so I have to buy a bouquet) I thought whoever organized this shit might have vases for the damn flowers there but H said he just handed them to the teachers and he didn't see vases or anything for them to do with it. Thank you note Wednesday- I sent it today. Thursday a chocolate or sweet- pass. Friday - their fave thing- pass. They had a post card "take one" at the front telling what to do. So dumb. This is a school that has quite a few kids who go there through government funding so why they think that was a good idea. Idk. Usually I do a note with candy or a small amount gift card unless a teacher is just excellent. 2 kids, 2 teachers each- umm no...

Yeah all ours asked us to do was fill out a sheet saying "Out teachers are stars because...". The daycare provides the staff with treats each day. Anything else is optional. I'd be pissed if they told me what to bring.
Last year C's teachers would always paint her nails, so she chose to get each a bottle of nail polish (from the dollar store) and we wrote a cute note together.
becole - My daughter is turning 8 in a couple of weeks and she loves Webkinz and Beanie Boos. She's very girly and loves purses and jewelry and sparkly hair clips. She got a magic set recently (at Target) and loves it.

I didn't even know it was Teacher Appreciation Week until one of my friends (who is a teacher) posted something on FB wishing her fellow teachers a happy week. Oh well.
OMG, speaking of my almost 8 year old DD, she had me rolling this morning. I was standing in the bathroom doing my hair and she was all, "I think Cassidy has puberty. She is so rude to me all the time." So, we start talking a little bit about it and she goes into Cassidy's room and gets her Care and Keeping of You book and starts reading it and yelling things like, "OMG, Cassidy's going to get fat! OMG, Cassidy's going to start growing armpit hair and poobic (this is how she pronounced it) hair. OMG, Cassidy's going to get her period - eww!" Then she gets to the section about breasts and just as Cassidy walked out of her room and came up next to her, Lainey asks her very seriously, "Are your nipples getting bigger?" I lost it. I was laughing so hard I was crying, and Cassidy exclaimed, "What kind of a question is that?!" and then both girls started laughing and we all sat there in hysterics. That was one of those moments I wish there was a video camera running, just to capture that entire exchange forever. DH would have DIED if he'd been there, but he'd already left for the morning.
