Not a dad, but my hubs has really been struggling with bedtime. Like our little man screams and cried for long periods of time when I'm not there at bedtime. Background info: little man is ebf, and I only work part time so I am home the majority of the time, and little man is 5 months. Any advice? Hubs thinks little man hates him...
Oh no! LO totally doesn't hate him, but I remember thinking the same thing.
W breastfeed but after about 3-4 months she was pumping so I could bottle feed at night. LO was in a routine and nursed to sleep. He wasn't even hungry but wouldn't take a pacifier. W and I just agreed to let LO and I figure it out. Every time she took him and nursed him, he passed right out. But then it just kept happening. I tried pacifiers, my finger, tons of shushing, etc. I even was like dude just suck on my nipple you aren't hungry so it doesn't matters there is no milk. Yeah...didn't work either. 😜
I found success doing baby squats and eventually Zantac for reflux. That's really all he calmed down with. Then after a month or so he'd change the script on us, but the Zantac helped a ton.
I have no how to guide, but W breastfed and is a SAHM. Our little guy is 2.5 now and is a total daddy's boy. Remind your H that it's a phase. All he knows is soothing at this point and maybe is picky about how that happens. The two of them will figure it out. It just sucks in the moment.
Is your little man fussy with you too, but calms down when eating? Night time sucked with reflux, but an elevated/angled crib helped along with really burping and waiting a good 30-40 mins after eating for bed time. Of course bedtime went better, but then they are up in just 90 mins or so to eat again...

Thanks! Little man does have reflux, and we also have zantac. He used to eat about 30 minutes to an hour before bed, but recently he just wants to nurse before bed every night and doesn't want a pacifier or anything even though he isn't hungry and isn't actually eating. Will pass on the advice about squats and such, and I will work on trying harder to let them figure it out.
He preferred pressure on his belly so facing him toward me and bouncing him gently was what would sometimes help. I just never had time to workout so squats it was. Or being in our recliner with him belly to belly he was on a good incline with pressure too. Around 6-8 months it got much better. His digestive system seemed to develop enough around then to keep the reflux from being too bad. I think W also cut out dairy from her diet around then. She's mildly lactose intolerant. I don't know if it was that or his development, but it got much better pretty quickly in that 6-8 month range.
