Your Diaper Containment System

I want to know / see your current set up for storing dirty diapers, and where you store them when they're clean.

My current set up is 2 small wet bags in the bathroom. The problem is, they're too small and fill up quickly, and they don't contain the urine smell. I'm looking for a new system.

For clean diapers, I just can't find the right spot to store them. I used to keep them in they baby's top dresser drawer, but I'd rather use that space for other things. I bought one of these to hold the cloth diapers, and so far it's working, but I'm open to other storage ideas.

dirties are in a flip top plastic trash can in the bathroom, lined with a planet wise pail liner.

clean are in a drawer with dividers, and an extra plastic drawer thing.

Not currently storing diapers, but I had an open pail with a pail liner next to the changing area and a wet bag for sprayed diapers in the bathroom.

If you have pee smell from the dirties, you need more air circulation. An open pail may work better for you. Any plastic trash can or laundry basket with no lid and a pail liner will work.

For clean diapers, I had inserts in a drawer in the dresser and covers in a basket on top.

We're using an open trash can with a pail liner for the nursery and wetbags for daycare and one clipped to the pack-n-play/changing table downstairs.

We're also using a big laundry basket/a pile in the guest room for clean ones. Organization is not my strong suit right now.

For now, while EBFing, I just have a hanging wet bag which I assume I should leave unzipped (right?). Once I start rinsing poop, I was thinking of keeping a trash can with a liner in the bathroom for those and keeping the wet bag in the nursery for non-poopy diapers. I have an extra step trash can that seems like it would be a good size that maybe I can somehow keep propped open a tiny bit. Will that be enough for air circulation or should I get a different one, like a flip top? I definitely want some kind of a lid since we only have that one bathroom and we also have cats.

For now I'm keeping majority of the diapers in the drawers under the crib but I also have a rolling cart similar to OP's that I'll probably keep in the bedroom where the baby will sleep for a while.

Oh and I was super sad that IKEA discontinued all the cute colors for that cart and now they only have ugly colors, like brown and beige.

When they were newborns and I was home, we used an open trash can with pail liner in their room for dirties. Clean diapers were organized in a hanging clothing organizer in the closet.

But since I work full time and we've started doing the majority of changes on the living room floor, the pail is now in their bathroom, so its easy for me to spray as I empty the wetbag from the sitter's house. The clean end up in a laundry basket in the living room since that's where I change them/stuff diapers/pack the diaper bag. It's not glamorous, but it works.

I know!!! I said the same thing to DH when we were at Ikea. I got the beige anyway. It's not nearly as cute.

Another question - I use pockets, so with poop diapers, I remove the insert first, then swish the cover only.


Am I supposed to swish all covers and inserts? Both poop and pee?

No, just rinse non EBF poop. 

I did have to rinse overnight pee diapers for a while, but that's it.

Honestly, I just throw all her clean diapers in a small plastic hamper in her room. For dirty diapers, they go in a plastic pail with one of those charcoal filters in the lid. I'm contemplating just leaving that pail open and having J throw her poopy diapers in a wet bag, because the smell when a couple of days of diapers sit in the closed pail is pretty bad. I do the spraying, so he usually just throws poopy ones in the bin and I pull them out to spray.

Nope, just swish/spray the poopy ones.

You'll want something with no lid. It needs a lot of air. And yes, leave your wet bag unzipped.

FWIW, we have cats as well. No issues with them ever messing with the diapers. And as long as there is air circulation and you wash often enough, they should not smell at all really. Also, if that's for your sprayed diapers, they will be really wet and you don't want mildew to grow in there.

Hm, maybe I'll just throw a lid on or just move it into a different room when we have people coming over. I plan on having a mini washer in the bathroom and heard some people just throw dirty diapers directly into the washer - would that be a good option if I leave the washer lid open?

Our closest IKEA is 2 hours away so we ended up finding something similar on Amazon in grey, which is my favorite color anyway.

Our cats also have no interest in dirty diapers. The dogs were interested at first, but now don't care.

We use Kangacare wet bags for all dirty diapers. I store clean ones in one of the top drawers of baby's dresser.
